    Amazing machine and flying skills. Tanking those up only 3 minutes for each drop! One impressive operation.

    Great to see another one of these videos from you. They always look spectacular. You and your crew do some great formation flying. Thanks for doing this important job. o7
    Also, the FD has a Duce and a Half fire truck at 1:12 during one of your drops. That's pretty cool.

    Question about flying on these missions. Is there ever a concern that the wild fire smoke may affect the turbine engine or the breathability of the cabin air for the pilot? If so are there any particular precautions that you take?

    • @brentvoris4399
      @brentvoris4399  11 місяців тому +8

      The engine air filter does a good job of trapping airborne ash and preventing it from going thru the engine, but if there’s a chance we’ll penetrate thick smoke we turn the igniters on ‘continuous’. The air in the cockpit is generally pretty good - you can smell the smoke and sometimes it’s enough to sting your eyes a bit, but nothing too bad.

      It’s a FireBoss amphibious water scooper. An Air Tractor 802 on modified Wipaire 10,000 floats with a 1600 hp Pratt & Whitney PT6-67F turboprop. We can pick up 800 gallons of water in about 15 seconds and cruise at about 140 knots.

      @@brentvoris4399 that sucks! I was down there hoping my friend would be working that fire. He was flying one of the Air Spray FBs at Yakima. They didn't have them come, but watching the five FBs and the two Scoopers work was really amazing.

    I assume you have quite a few hours crop dusting, im currently working on getting into a thrush s2r seat to spray with the goal of being a fireboss or 510 aerial fire fighter, which do you like better? Crop dusting or firefighting?

    • @brentvoris4399
      @brentvoris4399  2 місяці тому

      I love both. I think ag aviation is higher risk because of the amount of time spent in the low level environment and the fact that fields these days are full of poles, wires, met towers, windmills, etc - not to mention the occasional crackpot taking a pot shot at you. We have a slightly different but similar set of risks flying fire and we spend less time down in the dirt. I enjoy flying the FireBoss more than anything I’ve ever flown though.
