I have a few questions...
- What if the bit passes thru the material into the vacuum clamp.. will it destroy it?
- What was the total time for the CNC tool path?
- Did you have multiple bits... i.e. one for roughing and another for finishing?
I have designed a bridge and imported it into Vcarve pro, but am nervous about how to make the tool path for the best finish. The preview always shows some lines left, even with a finishing pass with a fine round ball bit. If you have any tips that might help, I would be so grateful!
@@themodernluthier Thank you SO much for those responses. It's very difficult to research this topic. So you just helped in a lot of ways. I do have one more questions. As for bits -- do you need to use downcuts or upcuts for this sort of project? I know downcuts leave a cleaner edge, but a rougher lower surface. And wood tends to like downcuts more in shallower cuts. But I'm still unsure which is better (especially for the finishing pass). I guess I have a lot of technical questions as I look to buy some bits for my bridge.
If you'd like, I can send you the design I'm working with - or at least an image of it - and you could share what you think might be a good approach. Bits are expensive, so I'm kind of stuck by my uncertainty about which ones will do the best job.
