    This is a little video I made about the Harley Benton GuitarBass VS Vintage Series when I got it. Unfortunately I never made a follow up review video of it since I sold it. It's still a great guitar for the price.

    Sounds like a Bass VI to me! To anyone curious about these that has a 4+ guitar collection, sell 1-2 and get w Bass VI! You'll be glad you did!

    Great review! I tried the Squier Bass VI. I couldn't get on with it. I had grandiose ideas of using the vibrato that just didn't work out. In fact the whole bridge system was a pain. And of course the Squier frets, OUCH! That being said, the closeness of the strings made nice for playing muted reggae tic-tac patterns though. I'm seriously considering purchasing one of these HB's. I like the idea of the tune-o-matic bridge.

    Very happy with this HB of mine, I put a JB Jr single sized humbucker in the bridge and it slaps! curious to hear your thought vs the subzero

      Oh nice! Yeah I prefer the Subzero first of all because I think it looks better but I made it play better too and put in a SD Mark Holcomb pickup in the bridge which is killer!

    I just ordered one. Can't wait to get it! I'm a bass player that plays guitar a lot too. I think this is exactly what I need!

      @@andrewshaw8396 It pretty much sucks. The pickups are very weak. I put single coil sized humbuckers in it but didn't help much. I really wanted to love this thing but just don't. I wish I would have saved my money. The tuners are really bad also. I pau different strings on it and even that didn't help much.

      @@mooreoutdoor9841 Oh man! That does suck! 😧Sorry to hear it, mate. I was hoping you were going to sing its praises and tell me how you're killing Wichita Lineman! 😁There don't seem to be any, "it's okay" opinions - it's either great or rubbish! 🤷‍♂Thanks for letting me know, anyway - much appreciated. Cheers! 👍👍

      @@andrewshaw8396 I wish I could have told you something good. It just sits on the wall. Sometimes I bring it down and goof with it but it just can't seem to find a us for it. No sustain at all and very weak sound. Just not very useable. I took it a couple of times to try to jam with friends but it just doesn't compare with the abilities of a real bass or real guitar.

      @@mooreoutdoor9841 All a part of 'life's rich tapestry', I suppose. I've got a Stagg Electric Upright that should be hitting ebay soon as it's not been out of its case for a year. I had a Dean 12 string bass for a while too - sounded great but weighed a ton and a huge effort to play. (And the guitar player HATED it!)The truth is - you never know until you try! Some you win, some you lose. Better luck next time, mate! Cheers. 👍

    I didn't know HB made these. It always makes me wonder why they opt for single coils in these sorts of guitars. I just ordered an RD 30" kit build from pitbull guitars and going to put that together when it arrives.

    • @geirisk8
      @geirisk8  2 роки тому +1

      Oh that's nice, I'm gonna check it out! I have another video up soon on the Subzero 30" baritone which has humbuckers. I decided to keep that one instead of this one. The single coils do make the tone interesting in my opinion.

      My guess it's that Fender simply re-used what they had laying around, first strat pickups, later jaguar pickups for the VI.
      The Mustang Bass, Bronco Bass, the XII and Maverick had also the same pickups (the last ones even feature identical necks with less holes)

    I'm torn.....I'm looking to buy a bass...and the HB basses are fantastic value.....I'm considering the JB or the PJ....but then I keep looking at the guitarbass 🤔
    I have enough guitars....but one old aria pro II bass.....
    I play indie/shoegaze/stoner ish sorta stuff so like the idea of the experimental sounds I could make with a bass vi.....but will it produce a good, "proper" bass sound ?
    Should I just stick with a "proper" bass for that?

    • @geirisk8
      @geirisk8  2 роки тому +1

      Honestly I never tried it properly as a bass but the sounds from it are really great and if you play it through bass equipment, I'm sure you can make do with it. I was considering it but then I sold this one in favour of another baritone that I'm releasing a video on soon. Maybe I should explore the "bass" aspect of it in another video. I'm not really a bassist though haha!

    • @NumbnutSounds

      @@geirisk8 Thats would be cool....most videos ive seen about the HB Guitarbass or the Subzero version all tend to focus on it being a downtuned/baritone "metal" guitar....it would be great to see a video demonstrating its versatility and range of sounds....or perhaps, there isnt a range of sounds, and its just a low tuned guitar :-/
      Would be good to know if it can stand up on its own and actually replace the bass guitar in a band or on recordings......
      Deep down, i think ill go for a bass........basses to bass things, guitars do guitar things.....guitarbasses are just a quirky oddity
