      What tuning did you use?
      I have one of the first release JA Baritone.
      Now mine is tunning in A standard (ADGCEA) with 14-24-34-44-56-72 strings.
      I try a D'addario exl156 for a Bass standard E tunning and was funny but I have a 5 string bass and quit the low string and add the first of the original set.
      With pluggings the standard pickup are ok, but with a amp are noisy.

      Having had initially opted for getting two of the Affinity JM HH models of the same era Squire released line instead of the baritone back in 2017?!
      I'm super stoked with the prospect of getting the HB JA!
      Great demo content BTW mate!

      Hello friend.
      I am interested about buying this baritone to be my back up Vi bass.
      I already use a Vi bass HB and I want to ask you if this baritone can be in E Standard one octave lower like the Vi bass.
      Could it be with the strings that the baritone have already?
      It is possible for this organ to take the 024-084 strings of a Vi?
      Happy new year

    I had this in my cart on day one and didn't pull the trigger. I needed to see reviews before I thought about spending money on it. Now that people have it in their hands it looks like everything I wanted in a baritone except a humbucker in the bridge. But I really like the P90s it turns out. I'm just going to replace the nut and tuners. But I do that to every guitar and know how to set up guitars so it's not a big deal. Great video!

      Oh man! I felt the same about the P90, I had bookmarked a few replacement pickups and scrapped the plans as soon as the guitar turned up. I ought to replace the nut on this one, might be able to fix some of the tuning issues. Glad you enjoyed the video!

      @@KaiDown Replacing the nut will stop the tuning from being stuck and overshooting. 99% of tuning issues I've found to be problems with a bad nut. Nicely done, enjoyed your video and breakdown of the guitar… also, your skills are 🔥🔥🔥
    Been in the market for a baritone ( leaning towards the Squire Paranormal series) for a bit now but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I mostly play in standard tuning but really wanna experiment with different drop tuning and let’s face it, most traditional guitars are designed for standard tuning and they sound flubby when dropped down no matter how well you set it up and intonate it because the scale length just isn’t conducive for the string gauge best suited for those drop tunings. Anyway, loved everything about this video. You rock!

      P90s have a lot more bark to them, I would say they're more articulate than humbuckers, but the tradeoff is that they can get pretty noisy under high gain. I do think I prefer the sounds of single coils/p90s in ~30" guitars, the modern humbuckers in my Solar 29" sound too harsh when you try and get more articulation out of them

    • @KaiDown
      @KaiDown  Рік тому

      I think either one would be pretty comparable, the VS has the vintage voiced pickups which are pretty dark, but P90s have a lot more aggression to it that would work nicely for sludgy metal stuff

  • @harryanderson7282
    @harryanderson7282 2 роки тому +2

    So the question really becomes how much of a bargain is this guitar if you're more than likely going to have to get it set-up, replace parts, or work around that general level of shoddy construction?
    It would seem then if you already own a Fender that it would just make more sense to get a baritone neck from Warmoth.

    • @KaiDown
      @KaiDown  2 роки тому +1

      The tech work is all stuff that you can do yourself with tools provided - it's mainly just action, intonation, and relief that needed adjusting. The only part that needs replacing are the tuners, so you can expect to add £50 onto the price of the guitar. Still only brings it to £225 total. The Warmoth baritone necks are cool, but they're a little shorter at 28.625".

      Happy to answer! JA baritone is geared more towards modern guitar players, while GuitarBass VS is a lot more vintage-vibed, and will work great as a traditional Bass VI. The issue yoi described with the tuners sounds more like a a sticky nut not allowing the string to pass through, building tension behind the nut then suddenly letting it go and sharpening the note too much.

    • @KaiDown
      @KaiDown  Рік тому

      In my experience it can be either, but in this instance it was solved with some lube on the nut. I've not needed to swap the tuners out on this one

    Hi! Just received my new JA Baritone, but even with a small amount of distortion in the amp I can hear a lot of noise/hum/buzz coming from the speaker. The Only way to turn down considerebly this noise is to close all the way up the tone or use both pickups at the same time (I think emulating an Humbucker?). Said this, it's this normal? I've read and watch a lot of reviews and no one had complained about this kind of issue.

    • @KaiDown
      @KaiDown  Рік тому

      These are single coil pickups, so they can pick up mains hum more than other pickups. This depends on all sorts of things - wiring in your house, the gear you’re using etc. You might have better luck with a power conditioner. I haven’t really noticed any significant noise issues with mine, but I play through plugins - ground loops are much more prevalent with real amp rigs

    So I'm primarily a bass player, and I really want to get into baritone guitar. This looks like a perfect opportunity, but I'm wondering now.
    Would that be better than Bass VI by Harley Benton or should I get the said Bass VI?
    I know that I would mod Bass VI with just putting a hotrail to the bridge as I want to get into djenty guitar-playing.

    • @KaiDown
      @KaiDown  2 роки тому +1

      Good question! I'd say if you're looking to play it like a baritone guitar, the JA is definitely the better option. It just doesn't really need any modifications, which is really nice. If the JA and GuitarBass were available at the same time, I don't think I would've touched the GuitarBass

      Its kinda a necrobump, but ive been into the VI world for years and have tried everything at this point.
      The regular VI pickups are the worst, the magnets pull too hard the thick strings, they feedback badly too. The harley benton comes with ceramic strats, and dont have this problem, and are easily changed to rails, thats what im using atm
      The p90s id say are what sounded the best for me in any way, but the hum is very strong, aand its the hardest to mod
      Theres a new aria pro 30” too that comes in hs configuration 🤔

    Kai, if you slap a set of bassVI strings on this, do you know of any tuners that will fit the thick strings? I recently got a 27" baritone acoustic that I slapped the HB locking tuners on and the 56 string BARELY fit in there. I've ordered a JA Baritone and I was thinking of putting that bassVI stringset on it, but those are like 76s or something. Regular tuners will not work! Any ideas?
