Great video, Jake! Really like how you demonstrated switching between drone and handheld cameras...fantastic subject matter to demonstrate! Love the deep rich blue as you enter the ice cave, and all the detail shots in there. Looked like a lot of fun, too!
Thanks for sharing this take on your valuable 9 shot rule workflow Jake. This is fantastic stuff. So many cool and interesting things going on in this YT clip. Tell me, for the final pull back shot, were you lucky enough to simply add a speed ramp on the footage as the majority of the folks in the shot were standing still or did you pull back on the zoom while flying backwards in Sports mode? I'm guessing speed ramp. Also, the chosen music piece suited perfectly and timing is key especially when matching it to the footage and emphasising moments of a clip. For example, the cymbal crash when the first ice-pick goes into the ice. Nice! 👌 I'm assuming that was part of the music score and not just an added cymbal crash sound bite added on top. Either way it was cool. One last thing, the color matching process for between camera and drone footage, is that easy or is it sometimes just a PITA?
no speed ramp on that pull back shot just pure sports mode... the music just worked out that way once I started editing which is always cool, cool matching between cameras is challenging making sure the white balance matches is a great first step
Jake Jake Jake , Wow this is absolutely brilliant and so very informative and helpful. The light within the cave wanit natural? I know there was phone camera light. The bit at the start when he is try to climb inside,is that natural light?
So are you not shooting in D-Log & S-log flat color anymore? Using colour straight from camera? Or was that just for demonstration purposes for this 9 shot vid? Cheers
those were all shot in dlog and slog and I used my LUTs to correct and make them 709 color space. The LUT is applied to the raw footage in Final Cut before it gets brought onto a timeline
@@JakeSloan ok cool. Is that the best way to do it then? I usually Color clips on my timeline once it’s layed out linear. I’m new to colouring so only just starting using D-Cinelike. Sounds like a much better option to already have flat footage looking good before you arrange the timeline. I expect it makes it easier to match different camera imagery also. Cheers Jake. I’ll check your links to see about these LUTS ;) Take it easy bud.

Fantastic tips. I wrote this down: nine shots rule. Impressive how stable your camera is as well without a gimbal.
Thanks Eddie!
That was a fine rump shot. Professional. I rewound it a couple of times.
I truly enjoy your videos.

Yeah only the 2 clips you see the phone light were actually the phone light
Thanks! I never think of the top-down shot when I'm out.
Try it next time for sure!
