Love this style - paint first, then draw later. It's liberating and satisfies my urge to jump right in to painting then adding the details. I'm looking forward to more videos like this. Takes the intimidation away this is what I do when I want to paint, but am not ready to do a larger piece. Keeps everything fresh!
Hello Linda. I have really fallen in love with this technique. I've had a really rubbish creative week where everything I did went wrong. So I put all that aside and had another go at this technique and helped get me out of my head.

Simple enough to embolden me to try and with your easy to follow guidance, I was able to accomplish a cute painting. It was fun and a bit quirky - so ideal for my beginning level. Hope you do more of these as it gave me confidence to continue as so often much of the watercolors are filled with too much that is easy for me to flub somewhere down the line. Thanks again.

Very, very neat! I’ve never done that yet. But I will more. Can I suggest a extra, long line in ink from dense to light end of each block to check the opacity of the paints too. Just a thought!

Love this. It is such a free way of starting a picture. I'm a beginner but have found it a good way to observe the shapes and colours.

Love this style of paint first then the ink and will give it a try. It looks like it gives you a little more freedom and you don't have to be so caught up on all the details for someone like me who is not that confident yet.

1. Some of the best times I’ve had painting were when I was doing colour blocks like when you mix all your blues with all your yellows and so on. Amazing.
2. Thinking of trying watercolour and pen shenanigans when I go on holiday soon. Never tried and it looks like fun. Think it might be disaster adjacent but my little set of 15 colours arrived today so let’s see.

I thoroughly recommend giving it a try. It's a fun and different approach and takes away that expectation of perfection, so you're free to just have fun and experiment.

I really like the loose style, and appreciate the finished result, you make it look effortless, but it is different looking at my own artwork, rather than my eye filling in the detail, all I see is what I am unhappy with.
I think we are all more critical of our own work. Especially if you have an idea of how you want something to look before you even start. To some degree I believe that inner critic is what helps us improve our skills. Too much of it can hold us back though. That's one thing that I liked about this technique, it kind of forces you to roll with it and see what happens.

I can't believe I forgot to add all the materials in the description below. The black fineliners I used were Unipin black waterproof fineliners size 0.2 and 0.1. I also used a white posca paint pen and possibly a Uni-ball white gel pen.

Hello Dianne ☺️ The fineliners that I use are Uni-pin water and fade proof pens. I tend to use 0.1, 0.2 and 0.5 sized nibs the most.
I usually list all materials I use, in the description below the video but I can't remember if I did or not for this video.
They are great pens to work with and affordable too. ❤️
