    I had some questions that I kind of answered myself after watching this video a second time. After you save the second time Revit creates a file with your user ID as the Central File file name so in your case it added your EDU to the file. You did not go over what happens with the save button to the left of the save to Central button. I assume it just saves the local file and does not sync to Central. Very helpful video I learnt a lot from this one!

      You are correct! The regular save button you are familiar with does just what you said, it saves your local file only. This does not sync the model.

    Thank you for making all these informative videos to supplement my classroom instruction! Which video have you already created and would recommend for learning how to create VIEW TEMPLATES?
    You know you're good when the college instructor recommends "How to Create a Revit Central File". Great Job!

      Thank you as always for the very kind words! I cannot believe I have yet to make a video on view templates. They are quite powerful and very helpful! I will look to have that out soon as they are very important to understand while learning Revit.

    I have a question.
    If I want my team mates to do there own part in one centural model, can we all synchronize the model? what if 2 teammates they both modified the same parts then what will happen? will the central model be the latest version from the guy synchronized?

    I think I’m confused is because you saved central file on your local C drive. In real firm practice, should central be saved on shared server? and local copy saved to own local computer drive?

      You are definitely correct! Given that I am working alone at home during this video, that is the reason I did what I did. Thank you for pointing this out as this is something I would have mentioned.

    Hi Bud . What do you think if the file you are creating the central file from a project that has a linked model in it ? also when the link in the model is updated what is the way to update it in all the models ? cheers

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  3 роки тому

      Creating a central that has a linked model in it would not change anything about the central being created. To update the link in all models, you would have to go to manage links then reload that model in every model it is linked into.

    Hi AV. Great video but I have some (stupid) questions.
    1-When I create a Central Model, should I drew or put something in the project (you drew walls)?
    2-When I create the Central Model, which option have I chose in the COLLABORATE TAB if I use Dropbox like the server? Network or BIM 360?
    Regards AD

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  5 років тому +2

      Thank you, but there are no stupid questions! If anything, Revit is kinda stupid.
      1. For creating a central model, you do not need anything in the model at all to save it as a central. It is just another way of saving a model.
      2. Nine times out of ten I would choose within network. This is because I work off of files that are on a local server. That said, if you have a Dropbox server setup and it is always updating then you could still choose "network" and it would still work. You may see some slow sync times potentially if you are saving to your own cloud server. If you have BIM360 and save projects there then you can use BIM360 to save your central models to.
      Hopefully that answered your questions, thanks!

    Hi AV! After to create the central model and the local models, I synchronized with the central model and all is right! When I want to open my local model to continue to project, have I to open the central model and check "open like local model" always?
    (path) FILE>OPEN>PROJECT>CENTRAL MODEL> "open like local model"
    Or have I to open the local model?
    (path) FILE>OPEN>PROJECT>LOCAL FILE
    Thanks for your videos! My knowledge is "growing" up everyday!
    Regards, AD

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  4 роки тому +1

      It sounds as though you have done everything correctly! After you create a central model and close, when you go to reopen the model just make sure you have "create new local file" checked. You are essentially opening the central model "locally" or using take a version of the central model for yourself. Then you can sync and that's all you need to do. Let me know if that did not answer your question.

    Great tutorial! I m a newbie for Revit sharing .. i am a Little confused, so the last file you opened was it a local file or central file? do people ever actually work in the central file at all? My understanding through your tutorial is that each team member is working on own local file and keep synchronizing to central. Right? Thanks

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  2 роки тому

      You should avoid working in the central itself as it can only cause problems especially if there are others working on their local files at the same time. You are correct as to how the local files work so that is the reason you dont want to be in the central yourself. Imagine you are stocker at a grocery store (central model) and you have patrons (local files) who depend on items being stocked correctly. If you as the stocker move a bunch of items to new places (working in the central), then the patrons would not know where to find them. Hopefully this analogy helps.

    excellent video
    but I'm not sure where is the central file. if I'm not the person maintaining central file , how do I get it where doni keep it. I'm in different system right?

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  4 роки тому

      Thanks! You can see the location of the central file when you try and sync. The is the central model location there.

    Hi AV. I'm trying to create a local file from an existing Central File stored in our server but the "create new local" box is greyed out and cannot be checked. Any suggestions?

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  4 роки тому

      You might see if other users have the same problem. My first thought is maybe the file is not actually a central file. This would happen if the file was relocated. When relocating central model, the model will have to be saved as a central in the new location. Hopefully that’s all it is but let me know if it’s not.

    Every user want to create a central file or Bim manager should create this file???

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  4 роки тому

      It really should be the BIM manager who creates the central and once that’s done, everyone else can simply create a new local when they open the central model.
