Their sound is joyfully silly and yet tight as fuck. The drums are some of the best I can think of in anything ever, and the bass wanders around purposefully.
Bought this lookout reprint 7" from Newbury comics in 96. No inserts, just yellow printed cardboard with the typical lookout print on the record itself. My record player was treble and tinny idk y, it had been my great grandmother's. It hissed something fierce but I loved it
Got to see these guys in the late 80's at the electric banana in Pittsburgh. They were touring in a ford pinto, I can vividily recall it being about 20 degrees out that night and the singer only had on a pair of shorts and a jacket, said his clothes and shoes were stolen along their tour. Their performance rocked and warmed the room. I had never heard of them before that night, and have never forgot them!
Gotta say, this is very solid, the drums sound gritty, the vocals are raw, the melodies are solid, guitar tones got a good amount of distortion and that bass....that bass is probably the best I've heard in awhile, fantastic
I was born in '71 and one of the girls I was dating said what was I into in highschool because I was too young to have been a punker. I said you were not there in '88 when bands like crimpshrine were putting out great records. Although, accepted now It is still alive in some form today. It is not accurate what they write in history of punk 101 books that punk was over in '80 or the early eighties. when I got into it in '86 it was very much alive, at least for me and my friends it was.
+Frank Humphries I totally agree. I born in 1970. I started listening to punk rock in 1984. I think that some of the best hardcore/punk bands were active way after 1980. In fact some of my favorites were around after the 80's. I do feel like the energy that was present in the 80's scene was unmatched just because it was new. The Gorilla Biscuits song "New Direction" pretty much sums up how I feel about that. 46 now and still a HXC punk kid.
Awesome. I remember when they were in Minnesnowta and Aaron came over to our practice spot (which was our guitar players basement) and he rocked on on the kit. We'd only been playin for a year or two so he blew our minds. These guys rule.
I owe so much thanks to Mark from Grand Slam records in Ohio, where I used to mail order 7inches from in the 80's, for turning me on to this and much more great punk rock records to cut my teeth on!
i remember this berkeley of which you describe, having spent many moments wandering those streets of yore. it's been many years since is last visited. do any of them still exist?
+David Laskaris He is alive and well and lives in New York. He is still making his kick ass zine, the guy has longevity and style and he fuckin rules in my book.
Funny how a certain tribe is always so concerned about other people building walls and using immigration as a weapon while keeping walls up around them and not allowing immigration unless you pass a DNA ancestry test to prove you belong to the privileged tribe

Do you mean Gimme Something Better? Great book. Too bad they cut a lot of The Eggplant and Michel Tea is only on the website if I'm not mistaken. I'd like to re-read it for sure.
evobug666 wrong!!!! God damn some fucking people are just .... There is nothing you can do for them. The production is So Good!!! They are pushing the amps, the tape and their chops at the time to the edge. I call this "2 much water through the fire hose" production. All of it feels like the energy , anger, and hope in the face of disaster that this record is all about. Get the fuck out
evobug666 the drum sound is one of the best things about it. That snare is classic late 80’s ca pop. That wet kick drum click shit 90’s drum sound is nowhere.
Whomever mixed most of these Crimpshrines records always figured out how to make the bass and drums hit hard as fuck.💯
Their sound is joyfully silly and yet tight as fuck. The drums are some of the best I can think of in anything ever, and the bass wanders around purposefully.

This record never gets old. Those years were such a great time as a teen in the local punk scenes in cities all across the USA.
Brings me back to HS in the early 90s.
95 for me
Yesss!!

hi dad
Fuckn' cool. I love the bassist and vocalist
Got a hold of this 7inch record in 92 and I'm still rockin it
Cometbus sounds like he playing laundry baskets in this recording. And you know what? It’s still amazing.
Everyone likes to say punk is dead, but as long as we've got raw emotion and basements to pack sixty kids into it will remain alive.
Gotta say, this is very solid, the drums sound gritty, the vocals are raw, the melodies are solid, guitar tones got a good amount of distortion and that bass....that bass is probably the best I've heard in awhile, fantastic
I miss 1988!

It's been gentrified but not dead.
The best times were 77 to 83 and 93 to 97, but that doesn't mean nothing else was good
This is like High School all rushing back again, so long ago but fuck such a good time...

+David Laskaris He is alive and well and lives in New York. He is still making his kick ass zine, the guy has longevity and style and he fuckin rules in my book.
+Alligator Man Thank you, AM, I knew him back when I was one of the Telegraph Ave. gutterpunks back in the 80's. Great guy!!!
Pariah Sojourner I remember Mr. cometbus-who knows we were never actually friends but he was a staple to the east bay punk scene..
Pariah Sojourner scratch that he's in NYC still making his zine...
Ben's not full of shit on this.
I knew Clawed.
The ending of Bricks "Now you're gonna build a wall" is still very relevant today.
Funny how a certain tribe is always so concerned about other people building walls and using immigration as a weapon while keeping walls up around them and not allowing immigration unless you pass a DNA ancestry test to prove you belong to the privileged tribe

Every fan who is on this thread needs to read Gimme Something More. Sober.
Do you mean Gimme Something Better? Great book. Too bad they cut a lot of The Eggplant and Michel Tea is only on the website if I'm not mistaken. I'd like to re-read it for sure.

is the drummer playing on a bunch of oil barrels? this album could have really ricked major ass if it was produced better...
