Diane, I'm 5'8" *but* with freakishly-long legs (34" pant inseams). I bought a pricey chair that was designed by a cellist. Well worth it, for me. When I practice at a friend's house, I must sit on one of his dining room chairs with FOUR chair pads on the seat! At lessons, I'm on a piano bench and always must remove my shoes in order to get my cello to connect correctly with my body.

I'm really glad you experimented and found a chair that works for you. I know that there are some chairs with height that fold so you can take them along, if you want to start hauling yours out of the house. I use a bench that has a high setting and is light and portable if I need to take it somewhere.

I have what they call a cello chair and it is expensive. The legs are adjustable for height and tilt of the chair. I use it everyday.

I applaud you for getting that. I haven't ever gone into that expense because my dining chairs are terrific, and for taking something with me the folding padded bench is the right height, so I have 2 of those.
