Everything is close by here in the UK. You can never be more than 70 miles from the sea here. From my house I can be in either Manchester (major city), Liverpool (major city) or the Lake District (our best national park imo) in less than an hour. You can ride a bicycle across the country west to east in a couple of days, or south to north in 9 if you're reasonably fit. It is also a fairly densely populated country, with 679 persons per square mile as opposed to 84 in the US. There is no wilderness here - this land has been under cultivation for millennia and everything looks the way it does because we have made it so. That's why, when an area has an amenity like Danky boy's reservoir, you interfere with it at your peril. Theres a similar thing going on near where I live, the water board have fenced off a reservoir and nature reserve where I've been going since I was a kid, supposedly because of covid. If those fences are still there by the end of March I'll be up there with a stihl saw.
I think they should consider whatever is best for the ecosystem and local economy. So many government decisions come down to money. But they don't consider the LONG TERM costs of each decision. They just look at the immediate cost.
Government has money problem. Government cuts everything but Government bloat and makes themselves bigger so they can cut more things. It's a tale as old as time.
I'm just a random european, who's never been to scottland, but retaining a centuries old body of water against the governments will seems like a nice idea.
It seems like all over the world in some of the "1st world nations" hunting and fishing rights and locations are being stepped on or removed overall. Do you guys get fined like all fuck to fish, park and boat in the big lakes and rivers in your country too????
Hey dank I worked in a similar field pre-covid. Moving water requires significant paperwork so I highly doubt the water level has declined due to siphoning etc, most likely long term natural decline or human activity elsewhere. Also, the maintenance of a reservoir and more so the regular ecological and hydrological studies often required to keep a site can be expensive nowadays. Imo the best thing they could do as is been done elsewhere in the UK commonly is to actively turn it into a nature reserve which allows for fishing ^^
I signed the survey Dankula. Glad you brought this to peoples' attention. They have no right to drain the resevoir and "Green environment, tackling carbon emissions" is an obvious excuse. In Liverpool, there was a beautiful old building - The Futurist cinema (close to Lime Street Station). The inside was burned and in need of repairs . But the gorgeous facade was intact. The corrupt council wanted to completely destroy the entire building and have some modern, cheap, ugly, metal and glass building built in its place. They of course explained that the building was dangerous and it couldn't be repaired. They hired an "independant surveyer" to check the building, who, unsurprisingly, agreed with the council. The structure was too dangerous and it had to be demolished. Save British Heritage got involved and hired a different surveyor, who amazingly, concluded that the building was structurally sound, and just required some work. The council disregarded the second assessment and went ahead and demolished that gorgeous building facade. City councils are all corrupt. PS, if you receive any mail from your council that talks about "Rebuilding after the pandemic" and they mention "build back better", please know that your council is comprised of evil people.

They haven’t mentioned the fact they probably want to build a road through the dam. salsburgh has a lot of problems like the absolutely terrible bus options. At least the lily loch and hillend are around the corner but if you live in salsburgh it must suck cause without a car how would you get to caldercruix. Another proposal I’ve heard is to reduce the water level to make the dam cost less to maintain and still keep it. But i hope this brings some money to the loch as up near the transmitters it fairly boggy and could do with a proper path being put in.
Labour Party have been known to be corrupt around north Lanarkshire all the public projects get done by the councillors friends especially reigart demolition. You didn’t hear that from me though. although it’s obvious if you look at the infrastructure projects being carried out and who always dose them.
The town I grew up in, they just leveled a bunch of natural forest with a lot of random fruit trees planted in them. kids played in there all the time, because it was a haven. it was a huge natural playground with food in it! Now there is bare grass, a swingset, playhouse and some sand.
We had the same issue with Boone lake where I live in TN and basically they drained it down until a decision was made to reduce stress on the dam and ultimately it was fixed and it is being re filled as we speak but it took ALOT of bullshit and fighting for it just to get it done in like 6 years. I wouldn’t worry too much because what they will soon find out is no lake=no property values or financial infrastructure. Soon as they figure that out I promise, they will find a way to fix that dam.
@@BeetleBuns It’s not worth the trip right now. If you wanna come up our way for smallies I’d go to Watauga or S Holston. Both Boone and Ft Patrick have been a nightmare for anything aside from maybe stripers ever since they started filling it back up.

Mate it's easy- just tell them that you thought you saw a newt. Then they will have to do a environmental survey, that could tie them in knots for years.
Done. Typed this I hope it makes sense 😅 "There are hundreds of re-foresting projects in Scotland including the possible introduction of lynx to drive down deer numbers which in turn would reforest much of the highlands. To take away an already established eco system to replace with some trees seems pointless. Saving the fish will not save the birds who use the rigg for survival." In honesty I've no clue where it is but I agree with your points, their reasoning for draining seems fishy af pardon the pun😅
To be fair; if they are concerned that the dam is at risk of collapse, lowering the water level until a decision is made would be prudent to reduce the pressure on it.

Just on a note on the tree planting in the basin.. going by what Forestry and land Scotland would normally do.. yep theyll plant 50000 conifer trees there, or plan to til they realise there's an osprey nest nearby or a red squirrel shat behind a bush once
they want to remove everything you love, rather than fix any problems.
Ive done my part count, protect your waters and keep the culture strong.
What’s the betting they’ll give a quarter over to a ‘wooded area’ then build a load of houses on it.
Form filled, best of luck from Brighton, I am very fond of that reservoire and visit it often.
👊
Oh so THATS why Alex Jones got you to say Shrek quotes
He predicted you defending his swamp
Been on the website and completed the survey
Count Dankula for the next First Minister of Scotland. If I was in Scotland I'd vote for him.
"You know, everyone needs a hobby. But some people really enjoy that one thing they have always been doing their whole life. This madlad was one of them. He really REALLY enjoyed fishing. So when he heard that some council (probably from down south) decided to -DRAIN- the reservoir he and everyone he knew was fishing in for decades, his heart became as cold as the bottom of his beloved reservoir, and his toughts became as dark.
Markus Meechan, better known as the MANDARIN MAULER"
im in the US, but i just filled out the survey, wild to think local government would neglect regular maintenance to the point where they would have to drain it. seems reckless, when i visit my relatives in Glasgow i will for sure make the trek out there for a few casts if its still there
Canadian just filled the survey out because fishing is love, fishing is life
i said they should put more info structure there to help people fish and maybe help keep it sustainable so it doesnt get drained and theres toilets and boats to be rented even a restaurant so that they could make it a even better place to fish
Go ham on them for it not being handicap accessible due to the drop in water levels!
The new channel art gives very Daddy Lenin vibes
Exactly what I was thinking
"Driving for an hour or two"
God it must be nice for everything to be close by...
We don't have any straight roads, so a 2 minute journey takes 2 hrs.
Close... 2 hours isnt close
There are no straight long roads in the UK
Can't get out of my home state in 2 hours and we have loads of highways
I don't think the town will be too happy with the lost revenue from fishing licenses and other possible registrations and fees in the long term...
Exactly, that's why so many seaside towns are fucking dead, they tear down the culture for a tesco store and wonder why no one wants to visit
Government has money problem. Government cuts everything but Government bloat and makes themselves bigger so they can cut more things. It's a tale as old as time.
You've done so much for me Dankula, I owe this to you. Wish you and your Missus the best.
I worded mine very well and honest.
"You can't just take away our reservoir!"
* Laughs in government *
Your wish is my command sir dankula. My survey is complete.
I'm just a random european, who's never been to scottland, but retaining a centuries old body of water against the governments will seems like a nice idea.
As an American living in Australia I've done my part to secure the future of some reservoir in Scotland!
It seems like all over the world in some of the "1st world nations" hunting and fishing rights and locations are being stepped on or removed overall.
Do you guys get fined like all fuck to fish, park and boat in the big lakes and rivers in your country too????
yes
Here in Canada, you're allowed if you were born the correct race.
@@PierceMD What natives?
@@thetankhunter100 Yes
In Poland you need a literal loicense to fish.
Don't worry, I'm sure they'll find something else to do, like prescription opiates in the new empty lot created by draining the reservoir
I live in Denver but I suddenly live just outside Salsburgh.
The land has all ready been promised for housing not officially, but certain people in the council will be getting very wealthy from this.
"disused" They mean not used by "them"
Green Environment - the trojan horse for the The Great Reset mapped out by the World Economic Forum (build back better) "You;ll own nothing and you'll be happy." This is all visible on their website, Twitter and UA-cam channel. They aren't even trying to hide their intentions.
No more cars or air travel, unless you are a multi-millionaire.
An SNP Council no doubt? Full of absolute maniacs
The funds necessary for repairs to the dam are earmarked for some forced diversity initiatives.
@@jackflack9881 tfw take fishing away for diversity sake
The council is ran by Labour with conservative support, check before spewing dribble.
Labour Party have been known to be corrupt around north Lanarkshire all the public projects get done by the councillors friends especially reigart demolition. You didn’t hear that from me though. although it’s obvious if you look at the infrastructure projects being carried out and who always dose them.
Drain loch ness and find that damn monster to get my tree fiddy back
The town I grew up in, they just leveled a bunch of natural forest with a lot of random fruit trees planted in them.
kids played in there all the time, because it was a haven. it was a huge natural playground with food in it!
Now there is bare grass, a swingset, playhouse and some sand.
I filled out the survey in hope that they will not remove the reservoir!
Behold the ability of governments worldwide to "fix" something that isn't broken.
I don't know what a rake is, but I'll fight to save it if the government wants to destroy it.
Soon as they figure that out I promise, they will find a way to fix that dam.
how's that lake been fishing lately? I was thinking about making a trip there for smallies in the spring.
@@BeetleBuns It’s not worth the trip right now. If you wanna come up our way for smallies I’d go to Watauga or S Holston. Both Boone and Ft Patrick have been a nightmare for anything aside from maybe stripers ever since they started filling it back up.
I personally can’t wait for my trip to headwaters in Florida this spring. Our fishery has been so fucked for so long now I almost forgot what it’s like to enjoy fishing.
The Guardian: "Scottish Water removes tens of thousands of 'Russian bot surveys' from query over Roughrigg draining."
My mom comes from a tiny town. When they knocked down the bowling alley, crime & drug use went up. The only grocery store, hospital, & gas station in town shut down. There's only 2 restaurants left. Everyone has to leave town if they want to do anything.
Dankula: "These are the traditional fishing grounds of my people, our families have drank these waters and eaten of it's bounty for generations." Council Bureaucrat: "And? The Reichsforstamt says you plebs emit too much carbon."
Thats right, drain all your fresh water, create scarcity then sell it back to you at exuberant prices.
Hey I did my thesis there.
So much for nature and the environment right? hypocrites.
Dank, over here we've had the evil vampires at Nestlé putting their fangs into our Great Lakes. Our source of fishing, drinking water, trade, and pride. I wish you the best in keeping your waters safe, taking your water no matter how big or small is a huge blow against you.
Mate it's easy- just tell them that you thought you saw a newt. Then they will have to do a environmental survey, that could tie them in knots for years.
This is actually brilliant, also start recording protected birds and insects that live there or on the shores.
NOTHING CAN STOP PROGRESS!!! Progress in this sense of a bean-counter's bullet points for proving their worth or reason for promotion, etc. Good luck.
Ah yes this is the best video to end my day. A Scotsman complaining about a pool of water. I love it :D
It done bro :) I just live along the road from it
So you can fish but we’ve never had an episode of Femboy Fishing: Count Dankula Edition
Done. Typed this I hope it makes sense 😅 "There are hundreds of re-foresting projects in Scotland including the possible introduction of lynx to drive down deer numbers which in turn would reforest much of the highlands. To take away an already established eco system to replace with some trees seems pointless. Saving the fish will not save the birds who use the rigg for survival."
In honesty I've no clue where it is but I agree with your points, their reasoning for draining seems fishy af pardon the pun😅
Dank my man the youngsters will just have to turn the way of modernity, drugs and petty crimes like America.
Damn, not even in Scotland and I feel for you, man.
So destroying history.... nice
As all communist authoritarians do.
Time to start building that Killdozer.
Is the reservoir a symbol of 'whiteness' or something?
Haha really funny
I bet its to do with Climate Change and that they need to save an endangered species in the lake
To be fair; if they are concerned that the dam is at risk of collapse, lowering the water level until a decision is made would be prudent to reduce the pressure on it.
Good point
Nothing good ever comes from giving government the benefit of the doubt.
