the one reason i loved the book was it pointed out people weakness and how people coped with it. I do not remember Dougal being around Collen when he died.

Actually, Geilis tells Claire that she was trying to poison Arthur slowly, but he discovered she was pregnant and he also suspected and wouldn't let her touch his food, so she had to sneak the poison in when they were away from home.
I really liked dougal if only he wasnt bad he helped Claire alot also.
Why does Dougal go crazy when his wife dies, when he and Gillis are expecting a child ?

Possible he did love his wife. Also, it would be expected of him to show grief, and I'm sure that he felt guilty also.Combination for a crazy reaction.
