Most may not find the chelicerate scary but the way their pincers move individually disturbs me greatly.
A lot of people who don't have the game and watch videos think it's not that scary, but from personal experience with the game just seeing something of that size pop up in the distance scares the shit out of me. Especially when they come out of nowhere and grab your sea truck. When ever I see one in the distance I take a hard u turn and get the fuck out.

@@bobZfish maybe not, but the fog and how dark the water can be with all the winter storms and all makes it scarier due to the fact you can't see them we'll, but can hear them.
Pretty sure it does the same damage as the reaper but the size of it just isn't as intimidating

The shadow leviathan's kill animation is so gruesome if you read the PDA entry about it it says that it literally traps you in a cage of legs and then releases its stomach acid to digest you on the outside so anyone watching would just see you get grabbed and then melt away slowly
I mean getting eaten alive is pretty gruesome no matter what way you spin it, but yeah no that one seems _particularly_ nasty
So like being eaten by a venus fly trap. I wonder how the stomach acid doesn't just dissipate in the water. Things that eat other things with their stomach acid in the ocean usually do it with direct contact instead of losing their juices everywhere. When corals kill their neighbors, starfish or sea urchins are hungry, and however jellyfish digest their prey.

@@sinifexxephinis4310 Well, the game also includes creatures that shot hypercooled liquids to freeze you, so... yeah, some artistic license is due.
I haven't read the entry in question, but maybe its more of a digestive goo that holds together rather than a liquid that quickly dissolves in water.

Chelicerate barelly deserves leviathan title in its current state. They seem very passive overall and are actually easy to scan without stasis rifle (rip stasis rifle :(

Well the leviathan title is not given to very agressive fauna, its given to big ones, and the chelicerate is big enough, and i like the fact its not entirelly agressive, make it more interesting

@@jameskarg3240 The normal Chelicerate is the one that the player will actually see in a normal playthrough. While I think that the Void Chelicerate should also have a kill animation, it shouldn't be the only Chelicerate with a kill animation. Players would be a lot more dissatisfied with the normal one not having a kill animation rather than the one that you have to go out of your way to encounter in the first place.

They really don’t seem like they want to attack at first! Except the ice worm
Cuz they're not actually supposed to kill you, they're supposed to scare you, there's a reason none of them can one shot you or your vehicles
Or for a cooler and more ecological answer, none of them have likely seen humans or if so then not commonly. That means they would be wary after you survive the initial attack since they quickly realise they don't know what you are or what you will do - but the ice worm just attacks anything that makes noise so they care less than most

@The Professor There I 100% disagree. The reaper are in multiple locations, other biomes more clustered then other, Shadow leviathan are only 2 spots in the entire game, so you know it's around, but a reaper from the first game can be basically anywhere unless you know every little detail.
This is terrifying. In the first game you just saw the fish grab you and then a black screen, here you can hear Robin scream and the thing literally eat you.

How to avoid dying to these creatures:
Step 1: PRAWN suit
Step 2: Grapple arm + drill arm
Step 3: Drill their lives away
Step 4: *s c a n*
Or alternatively
Step 1: Seatruck
Step 2: Zap them boys with perimeter defense upgrade
Or let them attack you first, preferable inside prawn or seatruck and you are gold as they wont attack for another 20-40 sec.
Bro Claw arms do nearly double the damage, you're just wasting your time

I’m generally mad that they removed the chelicerate’s ability to swallow vehicles hole. They basically took the only cool thing about the chelicerate and removed it.
I’m glad they did cause that would be way to overpowered and would make the game unfair since you find the chelicerates is many biomes. For the shadow levi tho it would be ok since I think there’s only one

@@OrangutanPeanutButter chelicerates attack you a lot less commonly than shadows and it’s a lot easier to avoid chelicerates than shadows because you not in a cramped cave system. A chelicerate needs to bite you vehicle like 5 times to destroy it and you would repair the vehicle before it could even do that so it’s not overpowered
I agree, I went through the whole game first time without dying, any leviathan u encounter just attacks you once then has a cool down, for example for the leviathan in the red cave place I just got bitten once moved a bit, repaired then carried on doing what I’m doing
The snow worm actually have multiple death animations. There is a place in the tundra void only meant for the admins where you can see all the snow worm animations. It’s possible to get there if you have the jump upgrade on the snowfox.

Or maybe if you had a knife, you could stab the creatures when they grab you. Stunning them for a good 10 seconds, giving you the time to escape(of course the knife should break, and you have to make another one. I feel like that would make the knife much more useful)

Fun little fact: If you have find that specific voice PDA, snowstalkers are scared of flares, so grab a few of them and hold it so that they won't approach you.
Edit: It's not a voice log, but rather a simple text one haha, sorry for that.
Or just run in circles. They are only dangerous if you are low on health and stuck in a narrow cave or something.
@@AeonQuasar That never works for me lol. Tried the same thing I did with sharks and levi's to them but they always get me. And it's very dangerous if there's like 2 or 3 of em coz they deal 33% dmg each attack.

Bro... I was ascending with a bladder and that Chelecerite SNAGGED me mid ascent! Scared the piss out of me!
If you really think about it, the chelicerate is very polite and only hurts you the first time, as if it was telling us to go away, even though it definitely could have instantly killed us
And with the snow stalker the ice worm saved us
I remember my mouth wide open as I was one hit killed by the chelicerate and so confused on what it was
I love the creatures I’m BZ but the only time I died to anything other than water or oxygen was when I purposefully walked up to a chelicerate to show someone the animation.

The Squid Shark freaks me the hell out and the Shadow Leviathan's death animation confused me a bit, like, how does it eating you work if it eats you like that?
The blue thing is his stomach, fuel of acid. And he catches you with his little legs and pushes you in
Also, as described by the PDA, iirc, the Shadow Leviathan spits acid on you to digest you before you even enter the stomach area.
the stomach acid thing is probably why robin blacks out before entering the stomach. The acid probably burnt her eyes if not killed her.
How does the acid not just dissipate in the water? Like I mentioned in another comment things that eat other things in the ocean with stomach acid usually do so with direct contact, like starfish and coral.

But many species that live in the water evolve the liquid they use for various reasons to be thicker, for example blue whale milk is more of a jelly than it is liquid. If it was real life I could see it being a corrosive gel instead of simple stomach acid

I honestly wanted the ghost leviathans to be the dead zone inhabitants. For me it just makes sense because ghost leviathans are alpha species and they control most of the ocean
Well, it doesn't really make sense because the ghost Leviathan's home is where the original Subnautica takes place. The artic is way too far for the ghost leviathan to wander there. That's why they made the void chelicerate's because their home is near the arctic.

@@bem555 yeah, but in the original game, if you go too far out into the void, the ghost leviathan stop spawning, meaning that there is still an area in which they don't go to.
void chelicerates are way scarier for me than ghosts
it's fun having gone through the first game, and knowing how NOT to play that i never got any of these animations...maybe the one or two shadows on the truck. i thank you for showing them as i would never venture out with just my arms and fins to guide me most of the way.

Some argue that some of these are scarier and i tend to agree, especially the Ice Worm ones.
Why?
The one thing I will say about the reaper is that it’s roar let you know it was in the area, the chelicerate is quieter than the cryptosuchus in the area, so they can sneak up on you or you can come up on them without realizing that they are close. I also miss the sonar from the original, helped see them from further away.
Better than being tickled by a big, swimming Dorito then doused in blue goop.
@@AKtanner331 That's exactly it. Cryptosuchus roars keep you on high alert at first, but eventually you just stop paying attention. Then you hear something that sounds similar enough, and maybe even less threatening, and ignore it, only to be grabbed by a leviathan
