Let me know what winter sowing questions you have! Also, if you have any winter sowing tips you'd like share, I'd love to read them (and I bet my subscribers would like to read them as well). Happy gardening!!

I appreciate your method of teaching! ❤ we precut tape and didnt put them on the counter, upside down and wasted a lot! Yes, starting on the back is best. I had to open zucchini, cukes, and sqaush, we had some really hot days. Its a pain to juggle the plants to keep bugs off..they love the tape! We now have massive amounts of Eastern Tent Caterpillars. It makes me crazy so i have moved plants many times. We had 40 degree and lower nights the last week but since plants are bigger its hard to close them. The days are warmer at least 60 to 80. What suggestions? We dont have our raised beds ready yet but getting there. What plants do you trellis? Thank you so much. Im in zone 6b , in a little weather pocket on two hills.

I'd like to do this, but wonder how the plastic affects the plants. I'm trying to brainstorm alternative containers. Any ideas?

I don't think the plants are in these containers long enough for it to be a problem. If you are trying to avoid plastic altogether for winter sowing , you might want to try a cold frame instead.

Why would plastic affect the plants if they are food safe containers? I'm new at this. I'm trying to figure out raised beds and keeping deer from eating my plants so winter sowing seems best. How many seeds go in each container?

The plastic shouldn't affect the plants at all, as you said, they are food safe containers.
The amount of seeds to go in each container depend on the size of the seed and how many of that particular plant you want to grow. I wanted to plant a lot of nasturtiums this year and I think I put about 14 in a gallon jug. For marigolds I just scattered the seeds and covered them. You can comfortably fit 8 'holes' to put seeds in per gallon container, but could fit more, probably up to 10 at max. For bigger seeds I will put 1 seed in each 'hole' for smaller seeds I may get 2 or more. You can always thin and replant as they get bigger. Remember if you put 'too many' you can always thin then later :-)
