I respectfully disagree. The GLI seems to get uglier and unequivocally larger with each subsequent generation. I look at the Mk6 era as the last of the truly great GLI's. They are the final analog generation before everything went full digital wizardry. Stay classy my friend.
Glad they are keeping the stick for the GLI. That’s a good looking car! I wonder how many they will sell and why they wouldn’t keep the manual for the 25 GTI. I just picked up a 24 GTI and am super glad I got to buy a manual GTI in 2024.
@thatoneotherotherguy the gearing on the 3 is designed for efficiency over fun but it's got plenty of go if you wanted to push the car. It's nicer than always being harsh and sporty. Not to mention 1.5T ain't exactly the best sounding engine imo

base jetta combo is indeed fun i’ve had mine since 2017 1.4 tsi with a manual it’s favorite car but it’s also my first car i added a stage 2 tune on it when i lost warranty and now im still at 160k miles but the motor is starting to show its age but still runs great
My 2021 Jetta fuel pump went out prematurely but other than that there’s a glitch with the oil level light which I’m taking to the dealer. And also I randomly needed to top up my coolant last year. Car has something like 42k miles rn
In a way. But the way I see it, MOST people who buy M5s new don't care about the weight, and this one should be fast enough for the regular M5 buyer (who buys it new) to be content. But it's to the real enthusiast.
I wish we got the Polo in the states...comes with a manual...looks so good. Also, there is a cool purple color this year....weird to say but I want a Polo. 😅
Also it's really big for its segment. Interior space is probably the same as the current Corolla. Speaking of Toyota, the current Yaris even though very small behind the front seats is nice. 6MT and even AWD available.
The Jetta refresh is amazing! The manual in the base going away is sad of course but at least the GLI is still affordable and attainable *cough cough GR Corolla. Affordable and even cheap cars exist. You could pay cash and have a safe, modern and reliable means of transportation.
Probably has to do with Jetta GLI being less powerful than the GTI (if I got the power figures right). Presumably (I don't really know), the engines are very much related, and if that's the case, then the lower power version has less CO2, and the manual adds some CO2, but it probably stays under some limit, while GTI doesn't.
Or it could be that GLIs sell more manuals than GTIs and they decided not to bother with GTI due to the overhead in production (building autos only or manuals only is probably more efficient production-wise than having two versions).
Great that the Jetta is doing well and the refresh looks awesome. The best Jetta in my opinion would be an R line with a hybrid, 8s automatic, and independent rear suspension.
I have a 22 Jetta Sport with the manual. I’m sad it’s only in the GLI now. It is a fun combo! I even have a little muffler delete on it and it’s perfect now. If anything, I’ll go for a GLi in a year or 2

Quick question and pretty please don’t ignore because im sick and tired of people ignoring my question. Is it wrong for people to buy a used car rather then a new car? I understand people buying a new phone rather then a used one because older phones age like crazy due to battery degradation, battery life getting worse and the phone being slow over time, but a used car and new car are the same thing right? Used cars got some miles in it but still it’s cheaper then a new car. New cars offer warranty and you could spec it at a dealer. So is buying a used car that has been discontinued a bad idea compared to buying a new car with like a $5k-10k markup and unexpected unreliability issues?
@@drippgxd personally, I feel when buying a used car.. you’re just buying someone else’s problem. A new car is yours from day / mile #1 so you know how it’s been treated, maintained & whether or not it’s been in an accident. For me the higher cost of a new vehicle is worth the extra $ (even if you need to finance it). I always buy new and finance. Usually pay it off in 5 yrs and enjoy a year or 2 of no payments after that. In the case of my ‘23 GTI however I am keeping it forever. So I will pay it off and keep this one. As far as mark up I found a dealer who sold me the car at MSRP ($34K which I thought was a fair deal for a 40th anniversary edition GTI). Used is obviously cheaper but you just have to be VERY careful to inspect the car as best you can beforehand.

They're already doing an Mk 8.5 Golf R but they're rare and not cheap. I've only seen two Mk 8 Golf Rs being driven by a private owner and not a dealership car.

Always wanted to buy a Jetta with a stick. Unfortunately the steering wheel apparatus is in the way of my knee when doing clutch. Have to hit the clutch from an angle which is bad for the knee
The 2025 Jetta GLI may have kept the manual, but equally big "save the manuals" news is the affordable 1.5L Jetta models losing the manual for 2025. They were terrific value. My friend just bought a 2024 Jetta S 6MT for $1k below MSRP at 0.9% financing last month, she's now very happy she got it before the affordable manual models went away.

Great job on the outside of the Jetta, but the finished ruining the inside. Besides the loss of knobs, the old screen was much better integrated. The M5 weight is ridiculous! Closer to the weight of two GLI’s than one. 😀
It's interesting that VW offers a dual-clutch gearbox in cheapo BASE Jettas and Golfs and BMW has gone back to pedestrian torque-converter autos even in M models.
M5: let's be honest, people who care about weight have stopped even considering M5 ever since the E60. So this one weighing as much as an elephant should not be a detractor to any modern M5 clientelle.

It’s sad but this is the first time I feel like year after year cars are getting worse rather than better. From the engine downgrades in normal stuff like the f150 all the way up to ford gt or 296gtb to interiors ditching buttons and knobs for cheap piano plastic and everything on a cluttered mess of a center screen. I no longer feel like car companies are trying to make a better product, just trying to save 50 cents on an old one
Doesn't sound like it, but yeah, the very early concepts of the R2 platform showed both an S and a T! They looked great. Then the latest reveal had no mention of a truck.
New Jetta looks like a Honda to me and the R keeps the haptic buttons. Yuck. VW has such potential with the EA888 and seem to want to go out on a whimper in hopes of electrification.
I just had my daily driver ‘13 GLI totaled out and was considering going to a MK7 but I just can’t get with the styling. Something about it just doesn’t look right to me. The EA888.3 MQB is a beast though. I wish I could have that engine but in a pre facelift MK6. That would be the perfect Jetta IMO.

Mass market Rivians are cooked unless they are going to get battery tech to the next level and build an expansion of the charging network. If Teslas are dropping prices to be even more affordable and people still aren't buying them, who's going to buy a Rivian.
Risky Investment for Volkswagen as Rivian looses still 38K to 43K per Vehicle. How they want to produce an affordable car that makes money is still a secret to me. When they cant produce a luxury car with a win, how they want to turn it over in the lower category with even less margin? Don`t get it.
It’s a startup car company. They spread their startup costs against their vehicle margins. Looking at how much a startup car company loses per vehicle is not the best way to study car company financials. Tesla was losing $XX,000 per car for a long time before they turned profitable. Still a risky investment for VW, but not as risky as the loss per vehicle might suggest. There are plenty of other factors a company as huge as VW would consider before investing billions of dollars.

So the BMW M5 is 5400 lbs. The Mercedes S 63 E Performance is 5700 lbs and faster. It's also humongous even compared to the 5 series.

It’s no accident. It’s because the 8-speed ZF in the Bimmers is that good. I’d way rather one of those than a VAG DCT long term.
bmw def saving extra oomph for the red label. but the weight of it is still diabolical for a sport sedan.

Its a VW thing I guess. Hard to tell the difference after refresh. GTI's have the same prob and still look like an 06 Rabbit to non-VW owners.

When they cant produce a luxury car with a win, how they want to turn it over in the lower category with even less margin? Don`t get it.
It’s a startup car company. They spread their startup costs against their vehicle margins. Looking at how much a startup car company loses per vehicle is not the best way to study car company financials. Tesla was losing $XX,000 per car for a long time before they turned profitable. Still a risky investment for VW, but not as risky as the loss per vehicle might suggest. There are plenty of other factors a company as huge as VW would consider before investing billions of dollars.
How much more would it cost if they added an Awd and threw the arteon engine inside the jetta GLI? I’m not a fan of the arteon body.

The Kia car for the Grand Tourismo: Are they seriously expecting people to go buy the new GT just so they can drive this Kia? Who cares about some digital artificially constrained FICTION car that has nothing to do with real life cars of that company? If it's digital, why not make it something like V20? Why not give it a 0.5 second 0-60?
As a fan of the original E39 M5 I’m happy that it’s still being made, however this kind of sours the whole raw experience of the car. I guess the requirement was 4 doors and a bunch of power but an NA V8 and 6 speed made the OG such a stunner. Natural path of progression, but still a bummer.
Also that Bentley is fantastic. Who’d have thought?
Yeah I think E39 and E60 are still the greatest ones.
