Thank you for this beautiful and considerate review of these watercolor pencils. I was given a very old Karat Aquarell set of pencils and I did a lightfastness test just out of curiosity. I swatched every color on a strip of watercolor paper and placed opaque tape over one side of the swatches and left the paper in a sunny window for a month. I was shocked how much the colors faded! It is possible that the company uses other pigments in their pencils now, but I agree that this is unacceptable for "professional" quality art materials. Even the odd professional watercolor paint that has poor lightfastness like opera pink doesn't fade as badly as many of the pencils in this set. Definitely best for fun sketches, not for serious art.

Oh wow, I never tested them myself but I suspected that would be the case. That's too bad, bc otherwise these are great pencils.
