For new players, specialize your ships as early as you can. Your 1st ship will always be an everything ship, but once you have enough funds, material, and systems, build a military ship and load it up with as many guns as possible. Don't invest too much in crappy captains early. Once you have a nice gunship, look for "A Lost Friend" missions. It will give you a 3 tier captain (which is the only way to get one) with dual specializations. The 2nd spec is random but the 1st is based on where you get the mission, so for a T3 mining capt, still check mines for the mission, for a captain on a salvage boat, goto scrapyards. My favorite dual spec captains are Miner/Scavenger, Merchant/Smuggler, Commodore/Daredevil, and Xostan Hunter/Scientist.
underrated comment, feel like Im just now starting to get the hang of things and decided to try this. Really solved a lot of the early game grind by giving you something to do other than mining that'll be useful for the rest of the game.
Been playing this game for many many years now. Haven't played much in the past few, and holy CRAP did they change a lot. Really cool to see how far they have come. Great video by the way. Your Mining ship at the end look sick man.
I’m sorry - can you still automate mining with R type mining. So command captain to mine one place, then refine, then repeat? Or do I have to tell my captain every time to mine, then tell him to refine manually? Hope this makes sense. Thanks so much.
From the map with a miner captain, there is an option similar to finding trade routes with merchant or procuring or selling. It has several modifiers. cargo space - time spent mining compared to flight time for refining. Mining system - bonus yield Miner fighters - simultaneous mining (yield per unit of time) Option to allow or not allow pirate space mining (less risk of ambush, less yield) option to deliver instantly rather than claim from fleet tab. Short mining time, delivery every 15m, long 30min. From what I have experienced this does not consume the ore in the sectors at all. for maximum efficiency, scout with deep scan, send good escorts with the miner in an area dense enough to give 100% area bonus).
The 1.0 version of that command is not available without a mod. The 2.0 version is better imo, but there are times when I want to do it the original way of go here, mine, refine, go there, mine, refine, repeat. The new way just assigns an area and refines automatically if you're using R lasers/fighters.
If you do the quest, a lost friend, and you do that quest FROM a mine you will get a tier 3 miner, If you do that quest from say a trading post, you get a tier 3 merchant. It is how I always get tier 3 captains ( kind of for free ).
@@deadmemegamming Yeah once you realize that is a thing, you can pretty much grab your good captains early game and have them level up as you work your way to the center.
I have guns and mining lasers on my ship. I was hoping your video would have shown me how to activate the mining lasers and not the guns when I am mining.
Press I for the ship menu. Go to weapons tab. Click on the turrets and you can assign hotkeys 1-9 by pressing the number after clicking on turret. I use mining lasers in 5, auto defense in 9 and 1-3 for combat sorted by range.
How TF do you mine just one sector... I don't wanna mine 255+ sectors. I found one sector with a resource depot and 3000 asteroids. How do I mine just that one sector and refine in same sector
I enjoy mining in the early game, it's kind of all you can do at first, it's kind of satisfying to hit your first titanium and naonite asteroids and get those first upgrades until you have enough resources to build your 1st real military ship. Then combat becomes way more fun. Then I start building out my fleet to automate mining. I'll automate selling of acquired goods, but not usually normal trade, so like cleaning stolen goods obtained from pirates or pirating myself, I'll automate, but if looking for highly profitable goods to sell, I'll map out the supply and demand and purchase/sell manually.
I sent a message to my friend that redesigned it to make it public, he added a few things to it to make it better at mining for me. Once he makes it public I will link it.

Damn dude, every time I have a question... You always show up with an answer. I really appreciate your videos man!
Happy to hear it.

Man, i love ur great updated content ! Is very practical, fast and very clear. Amazing work!! Greetings from México :3
Gaming is truly international. Thanks for the encouraging comments.
Nice guides, thank you!
Did they remove AI mining and Refining loop for R laser? Didn’t see you address that. Great content - thank you!
Not sure what you mean, if you put a comment or a video link that explains it will pin it.

It got buried so people can use a mod to return to it.

Good to know. We used to just look around in the center of the galaxy and hope for the best

The A Lost Friend missions are the only way to get T3 captains, also, you didn't mention they have dual specializations.
Thx for the great guide!
what is the third option in the refinery. theres ore, scrap, then a black ore? i cant find anything in game about it
"scrap" that is not an ore is a trade good for steel. used in factories mostly and some trading posts
Thank you for your videos :)
Thanks, glad it's helpful!

Just select autopilot - mine sector :)
@@Bishop1664 enchain commands makes them mine 250 tiles. Id ideally like them to mine one tile and go back to the resource depot in the same zone
@@theelderswear ah I don’t have the problem as I don’t currently use the R lasers but I see your point
@@Bishop1664 r lasers give 3x the amount and im a noob so high tier ore is in high demand
So you guys don’t just make a massive fleet to do your bidding?

Thx 4 the tips , now can i optimis my mining fleet . i like the optik from your black mining carrier can i find this one in the workshop ?
yes it's a B.E.A.R ship, I just painted it black.
