The father and son scenes were very touching and leaving in some mystery in the plot adds to the beauty of this work just like our Orthodox faith is beautiful with it’s mysteries.
@@andrewishakI’m very confused with the ending. How is removing the cultural aspect of our church beneficial towards the church itself? The Coptic church is based on decades of tradition and culture…
Andrew - You look exactly like the Abouna! ;) Actually just wanted to say what a phenomenal job you all did! From production, to script, acting, to music, outstanding! Looking forward to future episodes. Absolutely sharing everywhere!
I am a non-egyptian coptic orthodox reader. I started in a fully english speaking coptic church and moved to a place with no such place to call my church. I have worked hard to speak/read coptic so that i can pray with my brothers and sisters in Christ. I love the Coptic faith. But i will say that the arabic is difficult and I wish that it could be kept to a real minimum. But i understand the struggle we face. I appreciate that to some extent our church goes with the flow and comfort level of each person attending and serving at liturgy. The only rule really is to respond in the same language as the call. I appreciate the struggle over language so much more now thanks to this video. God bless the hands who made this and those watching/listening.
Arabic should not be so big in diaspora churches tbh. I remember an older guy telling me to learn arabic because "this is an Arabic chruch" when I didn't understand him. The baton has already begun being passed from the immigrants to the 1st generation Coptic-Americans and will continue moving towards more and more locals rather than immigrants. Maybe then the english churches will outnumber the Arabic ones.
My husband immigrated to the US when he was 4 years old. He will be turning 60 this year. Although he can understand egyptian Arabic dialect at about 70%, he still struggles with the Arabic and Coptic prayer. Both of my sons were born in the US and are in their 20s and hardly know any Arabic at all. Although I would hate to loose the language connection with the mother church in Egypt, I feel that every Coptic Church should have a primarily English liturgy with no Arabic and minimal Coptic.

Absolutely beautiful. The weight that our clergy and their families carry is immense, and the cultural impediments only add to them. I heard a quote once from pope Shenouda to a priest establishing a parish in Canada: “if you pray in Arabic, the youth will leave. If you pray in English… where will the elders go?” Of course language is only the tip of the iceberg - transmitting the beauty of Christ in our faith to the youth in a form that they can receive and relate to it is critical.
Amazing. Whether in Egypt, the west or anywhere else the Coptic Orthodox Church always has these issues and much more. Good to spread awareness to change.

Andrew this is AMAZING, very very well made. Nice to bring some awareness to how much our blessed fathers deal with. It also goes to show that the tasony's are the real LEGENDS. I just sent this to 13 abounas, I'm confident they'll really enjoy it :)
I love this and it is very enlightening to see it from Abouna's point of view. Sometimes we think that a priest's job is so easy because he doesn't really have an '8 to 5' job or career but it is completely untrue. He has a lot of responsibility and people to try to please and he can be led to many different directions not knowing what to follow. One thing that I noticed and I am saying this in the most respectful way is that it seems like Abouna vents to his wife about the congregation and their concerns. It makes me think that if I am struggling with something and I tell Abouna about it, I would expect it not to be passed on to someone else because it may be something personal to me. Or maybe it is because what they are concerned about is very basic and not so personal so I guess it is okay to let others know? (i.e. his wife, in this case). I know Abouna doesn't mention any names but shouldn't we expect some sort of confidentiality when we open up to a priest about a concern we have?
Watching from Australia this was awesome and soo relatable even though I’m not Coptic it gave me a huge perspective on what the fathers in our church go through. Simply Wow Andrew! So amaizing how you captured all the pain points as well as the effort our fathers put into the church. The family has its struggles and we can definetly see this in your movie. Can’t wait to see your next work. Truly an inspiration for the generations to come. And I love how you participated many of your congregation in your video. Love the language struggle. Here in Montreal Canada we have French added to the mix :-). God bless you and the service you’re doing.
I usually don’t watch these yt short movies but this was so good it explains how Abouna is still a human who got problems like other normal ppl and more different problems I love the idea bgad good job
Really great episode Andrew!! So many important topics discussed in a comedic/lighthearted way yet still with a serious undertone. Really great!! I’ve been thinking a lot about Mark 7:5-9 lately and the 1:02:44 mark really reminded me of that again. God bless your efforts Andrew!!
Glad we spots some of the problems, but we can’t just leave it there! It’s important to define the problem first to be able to solve it. I am just concerned about people who have a shallow relationship with the church and watch this video, that won’t bring them closer to the church! It will do actually the opposite!! I was a video editor and I wanted to say that’s a wonderful movie technically. I wish that can start a real conversation that comes up with realistic solutions. Most of people just don’t care and leave the church or don’t bother to discuss it with Abouna. It’s great that you really care and really want to make things better. Please let us know if there’s any zoom discussions are following this episode. I have a feeling that this is a good start and I wish our lovely Bishops watch it and I am sure God can help us and send realistic solutions through them. Our church is so beautiful and will always be. Thank you so much Andrew
Mirna, your consideration and thoughtfulness is a blessing. Thank you. The intention of this project is to reflect the reality of the Coptic experience in America. So that is my intention. I do think it's nice to think about solutions, though I'll leave that to the experts. :)
Great episode! Some thoughts~~~ 1) Sarah is such a supportive spouse! And love the father son scenes. 2) Not Coptic or Orthodox, unlike Rachel I'm **actually** Catholic. :) But God bless ALL priests, this film reminds me how important it is to pray for them and give thanks for their fatherhood. ❤ I chuckled at all the "Abounas", reminding me of children trying to get their parents' attention all at once!! I'm guilty! 3) My church uses Arabic too. I feel out of place when the Liturgy is mostly Arabic, having no family background in it whatsoever, but I respect that it is important to the spirituality and heritage of many others at my parish. Ok, I'd prefer English, as it is the language of my prayer + heart, but for others it is Arabic. I am thankful when at least a translation is provided, then I feel less left out- though I know it is not intentional when it is forgotten.
Best thing I watched since forever! Great Job!! May god bless you and guide you to do more and more through simple, genuine, straight to the heart art!
As an Egyptian English speaker, this is beautiful. It depicts what my friends spoke about and I loved watching every second of it. Greatly put together ❤️ We're waiting for part 2 !!!

So GOOD! Mario is my fav! Cant wait to see this evolve. Love the sense of humor!
Mario is the best. No question.

Thank you! Need a shot with Abouna on the links
Andrew, amazing work! I enjoyed it & would ❤to see more. It was soooo funny that I will watch it again. It truly shows some of the challenges our Coptic priests go through. A reminder to be mindful & thankful for their presence. We need more movies like this. May god bless you and your family! 😇✝️
Definitely, our priests and their families go through a lot. Thank you for watching!
John, thank you for your comment! Your encouragement keeps me going. Merci!

It is really amazing….and reflecting the image of the culture very clearly
Amazing movie
Really great episode Andrew!! So many important topics discussed in a comedic/lighthearted way yet still with a serious undertone. Really great!! I’ve been thinking a lot about Mark 7:5-9 lately and the 1:02:44 mark really reminded me of that again. God bless your efforts Andrew!!
Rafy, what an important passage to contemplate. I appreciate you making that connection. And I also appreciate your very kind summary of the episode!
@@andrewishak ofc!!
Good stuff ☦️👑
Thanks man for the show we really needed coptic shows like this may God bless your work!
So nice to see everyone ❤🎉
HI Caroline!
One minute in and we got an Ethiopian cross, already love it
Glad you noticed. There will be more on that in a future episode
Yes yes I noticed that
Glad we spots some of the problems, but we can’t just leave it there!
Getting people our age heard is the objective. He isn't leaving nothing outta reach. He's just getting started as the title indicates.
Mirna, your consideration and thoughtfulness is a blessing. Thank you. The intention of this project is to reflect the reality of the Coptic experience in America. So that is my intention. I do think it's nice to think about solutions, though I'll leave that to the experts. :)
Great episode!
Some thoughts~~~
1) Sarah is such a supportive spouse!
👏👏👏👏👏bravo
Thank you!
Best thing I watched since forever! Great Job!! May god bless you and guide you to do more and more through simple, genuine, straight to the heart art!
