I've wanted to learn to play the banjo all my life. I'm 60 & bought me a banjo yesterday. I know nothing music. Thanks for your help Mason.
Finally got mine yesterday! My 35th birthday present from my wife ❤
Have fun!
Ok here goes… I’m 74 always loved banjo music… I’ve flown airplanes from Piper Cubs to jets… I’ve been a teacher a sailor and a business owner… I played saxophone in high school band… can I learn to play a banjo in the remaining 25+ years of my life 🤔
I used to play bass and guitar with a focus on blending the blues with death metal into my own style and sound. But, after ten years of trying to start a band and meeting the type of people who flood the live play scene i decided to put it down and sell all my equipment. It's been about five years since then. My soul aches to play music again. The banjo seems like a good way to make myself an outlier, a way to hone my old skill with no pressure from the more mainstream people this time. Starting to get that old fire again when i think about it. I want to thank you sir for giving me something to bounce off of and showing me a few tricks. Happy trails
Thanks Mason for the lesson. As an adult beginner, it is great seeing young people interested in Bluegrass and especially the banjo. I found out about your channel from Jim Pankey, another great teacher here on UA-cam. Keep up the videos, they all help and practice and repetition are key for me.
Thanks so much for watching! And yes, Jim is a great teacher and person.
This is so nice, thank you!
Thank you so much for this upload, Mason. God bless you.
Thanks, God bless you as well
Thanks man. This helped me a lot ❤
Thanks for the lesson 👍
Thanks for watching!
Thank you Sir, this was very helpful!
Great! I feel like left hand position will also be a great topic for a video tutorial as beginners tend to "squeeze" the neck too much but complain about not being able to apply pressure on the strings otherwise. Where the thumb goes, where the neck rests while we apply pressure, how to stretch fingers to reach chords such as D...
Good idea, I'll think about it. I feel like most of that should be pretty intuitive though. 🙂
I wish I had this channel when I was starting out. Great information, well explained, succinct
Thanks a lot! 😊
What a fantastic channel, ive had to subscribe has a beginner much appreciated
Thanks!
sounding excellent
Thanks!
Great video. Im going to dig out my banjo now.
Have fun!
Good stuff!
Great video!
Thanks!
Best Practice!
I can't think of more frequently used chords in a major key. Personally if I was a begginer, after mastering those chords, I would do the (partial) A minor, as well as (partial) F major The A minor is used a lot in the slower tunes, like "you ain't goin nowhere" and "Sally Ann" and F opens the mixolydian world, like Old Joe Clark
Yep, true.
Very helpful. I'm a long time guitarist just learning the banjo. I'll try this method. Thanks
Love your videos! Do you have a video explaining the pinch pattern you mentioned in more depth?
I don't, it's just 3 and then 5 and 1 together at the same time. Very simple 🙂
A cord is also a stack of wood...sorry I couldn't resist!
Very good video!!!
Thanks 😂
You are adorable! Thank you.
Aw thanks. My mama thinks so too
I’ve played guitar for years and I figured that skill would transfer over to the banjo but it’s whole different ball game but I’m learnin😂
@@jebjohn7934 You got this!
@@MasonCroneMusic thanks man I appreciate it I only just started I got plenty of time
Thank you very much. You're a very good teacher. Is teaching lessons the direction you would like your channel to go?
Thanks! Yeah, I realized that nobody really cared about the videos where I'm just playing. People like for stuff to benefit them. After I started doing more lessons I started seeing a lot more growth. I'll probably do a few playing videos here and there but I'm planning to mostly do instruction and discussion.
@@MasonCroneMusic That sounds great to me. Youve gotten a lot of subs!
@@strangsnsuch4765 It's been going pretty well. I'm just gonna keep grinding and see where it goes.
Started playing banjo this week n this helped loads, respect from 🇬🇧
Awesome, have fun!
I want to Learn the banjo because I have a banjo it been in the family since 1920 and it just sitting there
Been playing guitar for 25 years. Just got a banjo today. The most frustrating part is getting used to the 5th string that isn't the entire length of the neck. I can't get my picking hand and fret hand to play/strum the same string if that makes sense
do american banjoists know of the late great george formby? as i don’t know any prolific american banjoists and i’d like some recommendations
I'm getting my first banjo tomorrow and it's going to be a gold tone composit beginners pack, do you think it will be good enough to learn on ?
Definitely!
I like your videos on the banjo I am just beginning to play and always liked the sound of the banjo. I am 69 years old do you think it is too late for me?
Nope! It's never too late. Just have fun with it.
Hey. Mason. Did. Jim pankey. Teach you. The banjo. Ive learned a lot from him. My self. A good teacher. You do the. Same. And i think. You will😊
He didn't, I learned from a book. He's a great teacher though!
I've owned and have been picking banjo for a while, but still feel like I'm a beginner. Do you offer lessons?
I used to but there were technical difficulties and they never worked out too well. Try the UA-cam tutorials! You can learn a lot from those 😃
I only picked up a banjo a few weeks ago I’m struggling any tips for left handed person
Just practice. It sounds simple, because it is. But it's the truth!
I,m left handed, but I play right handed . Took a while, new to banjo . Good luck
I can't post my finger on the banjo head. Any suggestions?
You just have to force yourself to do it, there's not really a shortcut. It'll feel more natural as you practice
Thanks@@MasonCroneMusic
Should I learn music theory prior to learning banjo?
Not necessarily, most people don't.
Can you play these chords on a five string banjo?
Yes, I'm playing a 5 string.
Mate you should get a tenor banjo and learn it
Really like your pickin son
Thanks 😄
Thanks guy, could u talk a little slower !!
Nah
