  • A dress once worn by Judy Garland in "The Wizard of Oz" has been found at a university in Washington, D.C. The dress, which was given to the Catholic University of America nearly 50 years ago by actress Mercedes McCambridge, was recently discovered in a box inside a trash bag. Matt Ripa, who works for the school’s drama department, said he’d been looking for the dress in 2014, when another, now-retired professor found it, and placed it in his office, according to a press release by the school. #InsideEdition

But remember the dress disappeared so that person could of been the said person who stole it or perhaps worked with said person whom forgot where they placed it, either way it should of been turned in years ago. Thank goodness it was found. Makes me wonder if said friend even had Judy's or the studios permission to gift it in the first place.

No, it wasn’t stolen. The woman in question had received it from Garland herself, who then gifted it to the university. At that time around the 1950’s-1960’s it was common practice for studios to either throw away props or give them away to cast members. And the dress was found in a trash bag in a box in the archives of the university basement.

@Busy Bodies! Nope she was a teenager. Judy Garlands upbringing at MGM was very traumatic for her. I don't believe there were strict child labor laws then. Judy was working non-stop since she was a child; acting, singing, dancing. They also demanded she lose weight even as a child. They would only let her eat soup, gave her drugs as a child to lose weight, be more "up" when she was tired and pills to make her sleep etc. Just google her childhood /life - it's all there. Very sad and messed up what they did to Judy. Even as an adult they treated her badly. Also, apparently the munchkins sexually assaulted her.

Can you guys stop constantly bringing up all the tragedy in Judy’s life. She was actually very proud of the Wizard of Oz. She hated being looked at as a tragic figure. I’m not saying that what happened to her was OK but I really wish you guys would stop making that her legacy. She would’ve never wanted people boycotting the Wizard of Oz. She always wanted to be remembered as somebody who brought a lot of joy to people, which is why her children refuse to talk about her in that tragic manner, because she never want it to be remembered like that (her daughter Lorna has said that countless times). If you really want to honor somebody you honor them the way they wanted it to be remembered for and I find these comments very disrespectful to Judy and her Legacy. She would’ve never wanted to be remembered like this. She would’ve been so proud to see The Wizard of Oz become the classic that it became. But seeing people constantly want to boycott it because of her “trauma” is actually going against her wishes. So I really wish you guys would stop. I’m a huge Judy fan and seeing people choosing to remember her like this is making me really upset.
