One of my favourite small pleasures in life, is living with a standard version of a car for an extended time, then being handed the performance variant, and just relishing each and every new sensory experience. It’s like the car has reached a new form of power, a Super Transformation! And that new level of power, is exactly the awesome feeling you get with this new AMG A35 hot hatch.
The previous entry level to the AMG family was the AMG C43. Though developed in house by AMG, is very much it’s own formula from the elder C63. With a V6 bi turbo attached to a standard 4 Matic, it’s not really a direct formula copied from any modern flagship AMG.
BUT: this A35 changes that game completely. See rather than a new formula, the A35 takes the winning DNA of a previous flagship AMG and unapologetically makes it it’s own. And that epic flagship, was the AMG A45.
Could this A35 thus have the most TRUE AMG DNA compared to all the other entry level AMGs??

I’ve ordered a 35 , this is the best review I’ve watched. As for some of the haters , I know an owner of a 35 who previously had a golf R , he totally rates the 35 as a better car . You can dream & read statistics, but you can’t beat actual real time comparison!
Update on the car?
Almost all the insane critics of this car are just from people that cannot afford it, ignore them pal.
Seen people compare it to an RS3, fucking loonies.
Or how its SLIGHTLY less powerful than a 135i, yes as if anyone even needs 306bhp for anything more than the 1 time a month you burn away from someone.

@@mememachine5244 my mate owns a Golf R and I'm definetly picking up the A35. I'm just dissapointed about the exhaust sound on the A35 though.
@@CinemaAtv Was very tempted for the saloon, but really needed the boot space for skis etc, and the spoiler made my inner 2 year old happy.
We just need to sit tight!
I love how lots of the design features in the AMG GT 4 door have made their way to other AMG models. The new UI, steering wheel, quad pipes, etc....
Totally agree, hoping the CLA 45 really is a small version.

@@chiefdenis The new A class started the new MBUX yes, but it didn't start the dual screen screen design, interior updated lighting, etc... That all started from the S class. The new A class just added the updated MBUX and voice control feature. The AMG GT 4 door brought the updated steering wheel with AMG controls, plus updated dual screen UI, larger quad pipes, etc.... those are the features that have filtered down to other AMG models.

yeah normally I'm not a fan of yellow on hatchbacks. But I think it looks really nice on this one, a lot better than the blue color. Than you have red, but it's the same as before and the rest is all white, black and all sorts of grey in between xD The designo color looks nice, but is more expensive than that on the C/E-class for some reason and such a color is a pain in the ass to maintain. Better get a carwrap if you would something like that and then the options are limitless xD

Since When? - I´m not a Mercedes fan, but if I should ever be so lucky to own one, yellow would be the last color I could imagine choosing even for a sporty AMG version. Properly the only AMG that really can carry yellow without screaming "I am a Pimp" is the SLS.

Loving the production level on this shot very well and great knowledge. I have to say the new A Class is on another level, looks like a spaceship interior. As consumers we are so blessed to have advancements in technology because the things we have in cars now are just insane compared to 15-20 years ago

Perhaps you missed the tech briefing (I assume Mercedes did one for you guys at the launch) but the transfer of power to the rear wheels is now a much more sophisticated electro-mechanical system, not at all lifted from the 45.
I think the round rear pipes are more related to the model today. The 53 Models all have now round tips at the end. As the A35 is also the second biggest in the range (A45 coming up), it would make sense that it also comes with round exhaust tips.

Shame you can’t get the Performance seats in the UK, and that you can’t spec the night pack without the aero pack for those who want a slightly subtler hot hatch 🤔 still rather have this over the Golf R and S3 any day🤷♂️

A really comprehensive review, I really enjoyed it. I’ve got an A35 on order the only bit of disappointment for me has been not being able to spec a different set of alloys on my car as I have not gone for the aero pack, which I think is not very good. But there seems to be a few bits that we can’t get here in the UK.
I’ve gone for mountain grey metallic with premium plus pack with red/black leather can’t wait for it, its due May😁
Another spec mess up by Mercedes UK not allowing the multispoke wheels to be added without the aero package. I know two people who have decided not to buy because of this - not everyone wants to shout with rear spoilers etc.

he really doesnt give criticism in any way shape of form. Any negative aspect of a vehicle he barely acknowledges and just breezes over it. Not bashing him since i enjoy the reviews, but it seems a bit bias. Not every car is perfect
mas in all honesty, it seems like a hard car to fault other than the sound is not amazing which he does talk about in an appropriate way. Without a doubt one of the most beautiful interiors on any car of that level, and compared to almost any car in general. All I’m saying is he may be someone who isn’t negative or doesn’t critique, but out of all the cars he may review this is a hard car to critique considering all it manages to do while still remaining a serious drivers car

Well he gets paid by Mercedes as he’s also their brand ambassador. Hence why he gets all the Mercedes cars.
It's a fair comment, although other reviewers who aren't so "AMG centreric" also praise this car highly. Would like a touch more power but for what it is looks a very interesting premium hatch.
Michael Wilbraham I would agree. The power on this A35 should have set some sort of benchmark within its class. Quite disappointing really after watching a drag race on Carwow. The issue lies with that fact that Audi have always had a history of overpowering their cars compared to the figures they actually give with 0-62 times.
The interior is perhaps a tad sportier than Audi but Audi's is undeniably more classy. This looks to be a great entry point into the AMG brand. Hatchbacks aren't for me, but this is arguably setting a new benchmark for its rivals. Your move, Audi.
Merc should bring the A35 to the US. VW is making a killing on the GTI/R here. We need something to shakeup the market.

Great review. But to be frank, besides the interior, the A35 is inferior to its competitors. The 135i has a faster 0 to 100, the Trophy RS has a faster 100 to 200, the Golf R is faster in all aspects, the GTI Clubsport is faster on the Nurburgring, the i30N DCT with less power is as fast while all the cars mentioned have 380L of boot space. Mind you, tested this car more often does more than 5 seconds 0 to 100 and it is plausible that the lower than 5 sec times might be from press cars.
So buy this car just for the interior and pay more? For the badge? The logical option is the A45 S. But the gap is too big.

Similar to the C43?? The C-class has a 6 cylinder and has 80 ps more! You Cannot compare this to the c43. However good, very informative video. 👌
I thought the CLA45 was the entry level AMG, not the C43. In Canada the AMG C43 costs way more than the AMG CLA45.
2 questions, 1 is this a good first car 2 , what modifications would be good for this?

I’m considering going to an AMG next time, got a M140i right now and love it but the AMGs are really compelling. But personally I’ll hold out on the A45 and see what that offers because the A35 is just a bit meh in my opinion.
I think the problem with the A45, except for the extra money you'll need xD, is that it might not be the best experience as a daily. I've heard it before with the S3/RS3. While the S3 is a good dailly, but with still quite some power for a hatchback, some say the RS3 is great fun but not so comfortable as a dailly. So while you have the extra power and it will be great fun to accelerate and on track etc. Using it every day, it might be a bit to much ''track ready''. Kinda like the Type R, great on track but I've been in one on public roads... was pretty much literally a pain in the ass xD However maybe with the A45s in mind, I hope they would use that one as a car more for the track and make the A45 still interesting as a dailly. But I guess the A45s would just be a slightly ''tuned'' version of the A45, to get a bit extra power for a lot more money.

How does the handling of the A35 compare to the Porsche Cayman?
Sounds really rough and they tried too hard with the bottom rear end. Idk split opinion on this one but if I had to choose it would be S3. Lacking too much to be there in that category and seems half the car needs to be optioned up to look half decent.

Sick video and a sick car... but the interior definitely doesn’t ‘blow’ the M2’s interior out the park, especially when the infotainment system in the Merc is terrible in comparison to BMW.
Looks nice but shame you can't get the black wheels without the spoiler, similarly it's a shame most manufacturers won't let you have a black exterior trim without the compulsory drug dealer blacked out windows :(

one week ago, totally in love with it. It’s a really beautiful car, with all the latest tech, the interior is a true masterpiece from Mercedes.
But I totally dislike the aero package on the A35, thankfully people don’t have to order it.
