Apparently sonya basically shut her family off to pursue a career as a pop star. Thank the lord because can you imagine a world without her and her voice?
Being an Echobelly fan I can see her shutting off her family. The early singles and the first album are all about finding her power as a women and her escape from patriarchal and religious influences. I was lucky enough to see their first US show (I think.. Troubadour opening for Velocity Girl). I am so happy she and Glenn found each other and continue to do what they do.
I turned 23 that spring, just about 4 full months before "On" officially dropped, and began my senior year at Uni that September. I either read about the album in one of the many Alt music mags I either bought or read at the time, or heard a track - likely "Kings of the Kerb" - on a CD sampler (CMJ, possibly?). Needless to say, it wasn't long before I bought my own copy of the album, and played the heck out of it, would this thing one of my favourite tracks on a great album all around. I'm at a point in my existence where I've been reflecting on my past lives a lot lately. The older I get, and the more I've managed to lose - ranging from the deaths of both parents and all the canine companions that had been part of the family, to a fractured/virtually non-existent/estranged adult relationship with my younger (and only) sibling, the more I long to return to the mindset of that era, even if I can't go back in time and do things over or differently. From this considerable chronological gulf between now and then, it seems to have been more like an parallel universe or some fantasy, but better than what this 21st century has shaped up to be for me. We really did have it too good for too brief a moment at that time; perhaps the last best one to have been a young adult. I'm glad that Sonya and company were a significant part of it.
Me too ,the saddest thing is the last time I remember actually feeling genuinely happy was about 1996 & I was still 29 ..life's fucking hard sometimes isn't it ?😢x
I was mid teens in the mid 90s. Music meant everything there wasn’t anything else. Wasn’t an out and out fan boy of Echobelly but this tune is one of my all time favourites and looking back realising how good this band were, guitar playing is phenomenal, ambiguous lyrics, vocal melody it’s just gorgeous
I've loved this tune for quarter of a century or so, but never heard a live version before - wow! Sonya's voice is fantastic and Glenn covers the slide guitar on the original record brilliantly. What a band!
absolutely beautiful song. I would take her on a winter wonderland waterbed cruise to wherever she wants. sweeter than 10 gallons of extra thick double cream and 12 jammy dodgers. x
Echobelly were one of those excellent 90's Britpop bands who never really received the recognition that the likes of Oasis, Radiohead, and the overrated Blur received but the still delightful Sonya and Glenn are back with a brilliant new album "Anarchy and Alchemy"
Harriet wheeler, skye Edwards, Geri Soriano lightwood, and Sonya aurora madan If you are mentioned in this group, you are truly special indeed I purchased ego on a whim when it came out, I knew nothing of the band-smart move young man, smart move
Sonya is a million times hotter here standing still with a leather jacket zipped all the way to the top. Then Miley Cyrus wearing next to nothing and twerking could ever be. Such an amazing powerful voice for some who looks so timid too.
Amazed I am still getting comments about this upload after all this time but thanks for viewing. Sonya was and still is a mesmerising vocalist with an infectious smile and enchanting personality.👍
I saw them supporting REM on the Monster Tour (maybe 1996 - 7 Hull Football Stadium?) and they were excellent - better than REM. It was an eventful gig as I remember Deb SMITH falling off the edge of the stage about a 5m drop. She got up, dusted herself off and climbed back onto the stage...and got a massive cheer as she proceeded to drink from a beer bottle and smoke a cig as she raised her arms in the air. The song continued throughout the incident and it was brilliant, really got the crowd involved and was my lasting memory of the day (Apart from the crowd continuously heckling the Beautiful South (2nd on the Bill) between songs because they were shit). Computer
THe chorus is not that familiar, but the opening verse is. I feel like I haven't heard this song in 25 years, which is likely. Reminds me of Catherine Wheel, a band I really adore. THis style should come back. Love shoegaze guitar and melodies. THis is not a great sounding transfer, and not doing this song justice.

What a vile specimen.
Sure. I can imagine how my life wouldnt be affected in any way. Stop celebrity worship.

I wanna be 20’again
What a time for music 👌🏻
Sonya and Glen still looking and sounding good.

So underrated, one of the best band's ever!
Totally agree
Definitely
by whom, certainly not by those who love em.
When TFI Friday gave you nourishing music. Performed live, you were “in the moment”.
What have we got like this now???
we have to leave our phones at home and seek great live music, and be at one.
My favourite Echobelly song Just Sooooooooooo Good
Loved TFI and fantastic bands! Before a night out in the next town. Happy memories wish they would return.
First time I’ve heard this song in 28 years. Adored On, and this one was probably the stand out tune off the album. Up there with Sonnet. ❤️
Yes indeed a Stereophonic Tonic🍷🎤🎸👍

TFI Friday was the nuts, Echobelly is the cream of the crop.
Mark Adams Only just discovered them and I'm on a crusade to uncover more and more of this mysterious band!
absolutely beautiful song. I would take her on a winter wonderland waterbed cruise to wherever she wants. sweeter than 10 gallons of extra thick double cream and 12 jammy dodgers. x
Very very very cool!!! Sonya...a lovely muse..!!
Still looking and sounding good.
Pure. Genius.
Favourite of mine!
Oh boy, happy days.
Totally awesome

Great band
Great days, wish I could go back
Yes there were some Great Things during the 90's.
@@StephenDrysdaleBroughtylad Indeed Stephen, Indeed.
Sexiest song ever.
A britpop classic
Forgot how good this song is.
Sonya and Glenn are still going strong and playing occasional acoustic and electric shows.
Me too. Epic chills listening to this one
Harriet wheeler, skye Edwards, Geri Soriano lightwood, and Sonya aurora madan

She still has an amazing voice and has aged beautifully with an enchanting personality.

@@StephenDrysdaleBroughtylad Hope they start gigging again soon, would love to see them live. I was about 8 when this performance took place.
well said brother well said
Gracias por teneros más de 20 años y de aquí hasta la eternidad.
Cute as a button
Literally that cute!
Oh yeah..had a real thing for her!!
How’d I miss this one? Nice.

Not on the recently released tfi album. Who decided this? We should be told.
Close your eyes and I will take it all the way 👀

That is a magical moment. And that's rock n roll.
Fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Wow a pop star that could sing live.
No wonder they got rid and replaced it with x-factor crap.
Great tune, but the lyrics elevate it to another level.
Magnificent
The delightful Sonya and guitarist Glenn are still going strong and sounding as good as ever.🧑🎤🎸👍
Scooter show me your sound ❤
Wicked Game? :)
I thought of that too
Definitely has that vibe

The studio recording is stunning.

No twerking, no woke, no phones. What a time to be alive.
Yes indeed a brilliant decade of music with superb guitar bands like Echobelly before the politically correct selfie generation became infected.
Blistering.
