    Good job! Luckily for you Vsync signal is around 60Hz. So finding LCD which accepts that frequency is relatively easy. In my case (CNC Selca S1200) Vsync signal is 53Hz and there are only few modern LCDs that work with it. I found only 2 types: Dell R2212H and Dell E2016H. Only thing I needed to do was inverting hsync and vsync signals

    Nice project, and I will try this out on my I4 S2 with TNC 151, that has an aging orange monitor.

      Thanks!
      I do not know what frequencies TNC 151 outputs it's video (maybe the same as TNC 155A), but if not then there are LCD/TFT monitors that go well below the VGA standard, look for retro computing scenes and what kind of monitors they use. Amiga scene is still quite alive.

    Very nice job! You are amazing! My only question is, can i change the resistor values to have the selected row brighter? On the original monitor are two knobs, one for overall intensity, the another one for darken everything, exept the selected row.

    • @JyrkiKoivisto
      @JyrkiKoivisto  3 роки тому +1

      Sorry for very late response.
      You could try and tweak the resistor values to your liking (within reason of course) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resistor_ladder
      If you want the text to be darker than the selected background then a bit more logic gates are needed.
      I made one version where the colours were selectable (RGB) based upon the 2-bit video signal (colour 0 has to bee black) but it was a bit more complex than this one, not much tough.

    So if you didn't bother with the inverter, would it still work? If you just connected the video and intensity pins directly to the RBG pins, would it just work normally but with the black/white the other way around?

    Very helpful video! Do you know if this modification will also work with the TNC355 controller and will allow you to replace the BE412 monitor? I found oscillograms in the documentation for TNC355, but I can't find them for TNC155 and can't compare. I'm asking because I made this modification, but unfortunately it doesn't work. I don't know if the problem may lie in the differences between the controllers, or if I made a mistake during assembly.

    • @oly463
      @oly463 2 роки тому

      Hi I think its the different on the 355. Its MDA standard I believe. ;et me know if you find a solution as I m looking for one as well.

    • @taboret154
      @taboret154 2 роки тому +2

      @@oly463 Unfortunately, this solution did not work for me. I was looking for a replacement for the original monitor due to the lack of a picture, but it turned out that the problem was not the monitor, but the damaged power supply in the controller. After repairing it, I checked the operation of the converter with the LCD monitor, but when it turned out that it did not work, and there were no problems with the old monitor, I did not make any further attempts.

    ok i see u using 7 wire s 4 of them are going to the top of pc /brd perpil blue white green where are they going to . Then i see yellow black are going through pc/brd to the top side and where they going to and the last is an extra black wire that i think u added in and would that be cable shield to casing as an earth.

    • @JyrkiKoivisto
      @JyrkiKoivisto  7 років тому

      Wire colours are just something random. I used a serial port cable as in my TNC the video port is dp-9 connector and not a Honda connector. From the TNC you need to find hsync, vsync, gnd, video and intensity. hsync, vsync and gnd can go straight to the monitor for the corresponding pin. video and intensity from TNC goes to the inverter chip inputs. the outputs from the inverter goes through the resistors and then to the RGB line. The inverter chip needs power and ground. Please do not refer to the wire colours as they most probably are different on your setup.

      Hello. I desoldered the connector but it isn't necessary to do so if you're careful enough when soldering. I also did some solder bridges on it but that too isn't necessary. Except of course the R,G and B signals are all tied together.
      This works because the frequencies that my TNC 155A outputs are 31.3kHz (vertical)
      I don't know if the TNC 151 has high enough vertical for new monitor. Please let me know how it worked out.

    • @andrewneaves1280

      how much volts are going through monitor ? i do not think that i should battle with it - r,g,b must all be tied then can u explan a little more to me step by step on what to look out for on the pc board ? otherwise thanks for yur help i really hope i can make this work as monitors are to expensive ....

    • @JyrkiKoivisto
      @JyrkiKoivisto  7 років тому

      Andrew Neaves Monitor takes a voltage level of 0 to 0.7v on the R, G and B lines and that is an analog signal. TNC outputs a digital 5 volt signal. Those resistors form a voltage divider. On the monitor R,G and B have a input impedance of 75 ohms and because they are tied together the combined RGB line have much smaller input impedance. The value of those resistors are chosen such that the digital sognal is converted to 0 to 0.7 volts.

    I restore the MAXO machine 1986 year of issue, Heidenhain TNC 155 A, the display unit model BE511 - F10 with the PHILIPS M31-340LM / ED kinescope. Over the years of operation, its phosphor “burned out” (difficult to work) ... the monitor unit itself is working.
    I want to switch to monitor for LCD retrofit.
    What about a budget?

      Sorry, I didn't fully understand the question. This costs the prize of the monitor (free in my case) and the inverter chip (also free in my case) The converter is really simple just an inverter chip and digital to analog converter made from resistors.

    and the last thing is why have u put a flat black resister at the back of board

    • @JyrkiKoivisto
      @JyrkiKoivisto  7 років тому

      The inverter chip outputs 0 to 5v and together with the monitors input impedance those resistors form a voltage divider to get the 0 to 0.7v
      I used three same value resistors because those were what I had. If you put two resistors parallel then the resistance halves and that is what is needed for R-2R DAC.

    • @JyrkiKoivisto
      @JyrkiKoivisto  7 років тому

      It isn't a resistor but a inverter chip in SMD package. Resistors are also SMD and they are tiny and soldered directly to the inverter chip. You could as well use a DIP package and "normal" through hole resistors. Again those were the things at hand when I did the modification.

      Tuo riippuu täysin millä taajuudella ohjain puskee ulos video tahdistussignaalit. Oma alkuperäinen näyttö taitaa olla juurikin jokin be411, en ole ihan varma. Jos näyttö menee vain tahdistusten puolesta tarpeeksi alas niin sama kytkentä toimii siinäkin, tuo vain muuntaa digitaalivideon analogiseksi.

    • @JyrkiKoivisto
      @JyrkiKoivisto  5 років тому +1

      Tuossa aivan videon lopussa näkyy nuo oman tnc155a:n videosignaalin tahdistukset. Ovat tarpeeksi korkealla että mikä tahansa nykyaikainen näyttö siihen tahdistuu. Vanhemmissa ohjaimissa videosignaali on 15kHz:n paikkeilla ja siihen tarvitaan näyttö joka menee niin alas.

    • @Agentti09
      @Agentti09 5 років тому

      Ton tyylinen näyttö löytyy nurkista www.icp-deutschland.de/en/industrial-pc/panel-pc-displays/display/industrial-dm/dm-121gxms-r-r21.html olis juuri sopiva tohon vanhan kehikkoon niin että sais pistää vaan paikalleen. :D mutta se että millaista signaalia tuo näyttö tukee en tiedä. Eräällä henkilöllä oli useampia noita monitoreja, kaikissa kaiketi palanut puhki CRT kun kuva kuulemma himmentynyt. 600 € pyytelee tosiaan sellaisesta LCD muunnoskitistä joten olishan toi kiva että halvemmalla sais tehtyä. Mistä tollaisia hex schmitt invertereitä löytää? Onko niitä joissakin tietyissä laitteissa että voi purkaa jostain, vai?
