Thanks for the great recommendations! A favorite of mine is Paula Scher's "Make it bigger". She shares inside stories from her career and the creative process from her most iconic works. Great book.
Actually it seems to be out of print and quite expensive to pick up second hand - looks to have become a collector's item. I'll have to do some hunting at used book stores for a reasonably priced copy!
That’s a great one, let me know what you think! And I think audio book versions are great for the more conceptual books (creative strategy and the business of design, start with why, the creative act, etc), but for the more design focused books a lot of them lean heavily on visuals, so I’d recommend getting the physical copies of those (logo modernism, thinking with type, pretty much everything, etc).
What are YOUR favorite design books? I'd love to hear your recommendations, leave them in the comments!
If you havent listened to the Creative Act on audiobook I would highly recommend it! Felt like Rick was a wizard guiding me through the forest
Haha I haven’t listened to the audiobook but absolutely will now, sounds amazing 🧙♂️
