Yeaterday at game stop, they had 12 items total, there was a limit of 2 per. There were 12 people in line. We all agreed to just get one item each so all could get in on something. The etbs went first then the binders. Then posters then blisters. I was lucky to get a binder.
As one whose playgroup primarily plays limited, we really do enjoy the current pokemon market. We love that 4pack mutant draft buy-ins are $40 per player & if you want to side-step skeevy shop owners & cube, congrats, you are now in a dead sprint with slabbers hellbent on encasing every pre-black/white game piece in plastic.
I don't think it's just hysteria that leads to this, because sure there is some hysteria in regards to people who think they can make money off of it, what I think really drives the sales at local shops is the increased visibility during the hype cycle. What I mean by that is a lot more people who casually collect will come in to buy things because they're reminded of the existence of the product and nostalgia hits for them. We saw a boom of people coming in not to buy a ton of stuff, but a handful of packs or a bundle to open just because all the talk about Pokemon reminded them of it and they wanted to crack some packs again for the first time in years. That's not hysteria, that's just constant exposure leading to a no insignificant real demand from a casual audience.
I mean 1st edition boxes are trying to be sold for the cost of a house.... it's grand you got some people opening for nostalgia. But the rest of the world has lost its mind over Pokémon and it's becoming a joke.
@@DaClaptain Not just some, the vast and overwhelming majority. Remember, the secondary market is actually a rather small but very vocal/visible subset of the people who enjoy any hobby.
It's a case by case.... Duskmourn and boomburrow have good value, especially in the low end cards (lots of 3-5$ ones) while Fondation is currently atrocious... Except for a few hits like doubling S, most rares and mythic are bulk. Of course, foundation price will adjust overtime, but atm its a good draft experience with very little value.
Idk man I'm old school and just got back in to this stuff and when I saw a Lgs charging above MSRP for a in-print item and then tried to show me the internet price I walked out disgusted. Retailers aren't scalpers because they are licensed to sell product and the belief if they would do it for a modest markup above wholesale. Which is essentially MSRP. Except now with ecommerce retailers don't have to be point of sales. They shouldn't be allowed to lock up so much product as that creates upward price action. Then if the sentiment changes and they have weak hands they will dump it all and tank the market. No way stores should be selling items for such absurd prices when the company just said they are printing more. I almost feel bad I didn't check in on the community all these years.
Thats franchising lol, they force you to sign contracts to buy company stuff only for double the price and reposes when they sucked all the money out you and reuse it.
You shouldn't have prerelease kots those are all supposed to be sold and go for prerelease events! Hoarding it like that is not ok!! Ure part of the problem holding product that's for prerelease events!!!
And no one buys them until the price of them go up in the next 6 months to 3 years. Be thankful for your LGS to have space for you to play and do events in general. Grow up savanahbabcock.
Yeah pretty bad take bud. I could understand if they have a warehouse full of them. But like others have mentioned what do you do when you order kits. But no one comes to play. Or people say they will then never show up. Of all the hills you picked to die on. You picked the dumbest one you could. Edit: after looking at your channel. You're pulling for profit. You are the problem with trading card games. Imagine collecting cards for fun. Instead of trying to treat it like a stock portfolio. Congrats bud you played yourself.
Wizards pulling a rent-a-center con is a whole nother level of scummy

thats the kind of wholesomeness we need more of. Glad that it worked out that way.

Hasbro is under pressure to increase their income each year and Magic and dnd are their cash cows. Its just gonna get worse each yr.
Its like option trading all over back in 2020
Pokemon investors are honestly the most cringe Western pillar of capitalism to exist. Over a children's card game.
All those prerelease kits !! Very nice !
What is the box underneath the Charizard collection box behind your head?
Feels like all the Value for anything MTG is on Collector boxes and play boosters have little to no value to them

Uh.... you can literally order kits from distributors well after the prerelease...
