Description: During anxiety recovery many people face the prospect of setbacks. Some don't get this far even and might feel like they take 1 step forward and 5 steps back. it's important to look at the elements that make up these setbacks and how to confront them.
Becoming prepared for setbacks is crucial because to a large degree they are inevitable. The mind sorts for what's familiar, the mind will push you to do what has already been consistently done, and the mind will continue to do what's it's meant to do, keep you safe.
But many times during anxiety recovery we fall back into those unconscious triggers and believe we must start from stage 1 again, untrue. Your mind will always remember the progress you've made and the breakthroughs you've created. Remember you are more than anxiety.

Thanks for all the information that you provide to the world very much needed people dont undersatnd it yet but its millions of people going through this everyday. Thank god for anixetyguy share to others please...
how much the program is?
Is this the program for $79.99 on the website? I was thinking about purchasing, but there is not much of a description of what it is so I’ve been on the fence.
Can you explain the program to me please would be interested to do something
Oh man Dennis I wish you could walk me through a week holding my hand every time I watch I feel so inspired and then my habitual thoughts start again. I struggle with “what if this happens again when I’m at work” “what if I have another panic attack and my coworkers think I’m crazy” I worry so much what people think of me. I’m starting to watch you more and more and sticking with the program I have to I want my life back. Thanks Dennis I love you:)
How you feeling?
I think what you are doing with your channel & mission is amazing. 👍🏻I struggled very badly with anxiety & hypochondria for 4 years. It felt like I was stuck in a hole and could never get out. The doctor visits, checking in mirrors, & googling symptoms was a self fulfilling prophecy that made everything worse. You are so right about the resistance I experienced so much in the beginning of my journey but once I got to the other side I felt so much peace and felt like myself for the first time in my life. Still love watching these videos to be sure I never fall back into the way I used to be.
Michaela Kurtzer You are not alone my friend it is a hard pattern to break but you have to take one step forward! don't be afraid! I'm struggling also but at least we still alive and kicking!
How did you overcome it ?
@@Ashley-bs4df it 's something personal! It's different in every person!I was sitting on my sofa watching tv and I understood i bring this hell-anxiety to my self!I was shocked!!!Now I know I am the cause to my problem because I choose to panic rather staying calm!Ask for cbt techniques!
absolutely love this one. I feel like this is exactly where I am right now. stuck trying to push through the wall that is holding me back currently. I even told my husband the other day that I don't understand why these last few symptoms of anxiety can't just leave me alone. I'm so over them and done with it all.
Exactly. Trying to Accept Accept Accept.
Thank you so much for this video today Dennis! This is exactly the place I am in right now with anxiety. I had sort of a mental breakdown last night, because I couldn't sleep and a had huge headache that made me feel like I was on a bad drug trip ect- typical anxiety attack. The thoughts were going around in my head that I would always feel this way and never be able to overcome this stress and physical manifestations to get my life back on track, to live a good life. I got so angry and frustrated and "done" with myself I felt at a moment last night that this had broken me. I truly felt at rock bottom. But I know that the recovery process is full of hills and valleys. That sometimes we have to take two steps back before we move forward. I have to look at these moments in my life as challenges and ways to improve my thinking, not road blocks to my happiness. I will not let anxiety win.
Great mindset, the beginning of change is a place I call 'no return.' To make decisions to change our perspectives, challenge our irrational thinking, and create new daily routines that create the warrior identity. #nomorevictim
The Anxiety Guy last week i got anxiety i scared erything hope someone talk to.me
settledownc How are you feeling now? I’m currently on my road to recovery but I had my second really bad moment that made me scared and like Id feel like this forever. Even if I know that’s not true. (:
Amazing Dennis thank you for all you do your program for GAD has truly changed my life and given me freedom from my anxiety symptoms.
Ive been going through a lot of rough times lately and recently started to watch your channel and it has been really helpful to my crazy mindset I have been dwelling in. Thank you for making these videos.
Ethan Hill You’re very welcome enjoy the channel. ❤️
Hey Dennis!
I have been watching your videos for a while now, apart from that I am undergoing a therapy, but I wanted to thank you for all of your amazing videos! They are giving me so much strenght! I have just started doing your morning routine and I love it! However, I am still in a recovery state and even though I feel hundreds times better than before, there are days when anxiety comes back (not as powerful as it used to be), there are setbacks and I feel kind of bad, as if I am going backwards, but then I watch some of your videos and grab my shield and sword again
Triss Merigold The body will take longer to adapt to the changes in the mind and a persons energy. Much love.
Love this video! Had to rewatch it because I was getting back in my head and going back to my comfort zone. Thank you for your clear and helpful videos!
Tan Very welcome enjoy. ❤️
Be conscious and mindful of who we think we are (hence the resistance to change behaviour). Love it. I am going to carry this with me all day. Thank you
Thank you so much Dennis, very wise words! Love the use of the elements to help show us how we can get to recovery.
I'm going to keep listening. You make sense.
You are the best. I just had a set back and there you are answering what happened to me.
Please keep it up.
you rock dennis!
Denis, thanks so much for this video, is very true all you are saying. I am greatful I found you. I am on my recovery journey and especially topic about going from internal to external world and taking oportunity to overcome panic or anxiety while having it is exactly what I found as very important. I ussualy do not have anxiety while hanging out with my bf... or when i walk and take photos of the nature. You keep motivating me and again thank you for all the help.
Great video. Thank you for reminding me about mindfulness.
Nettie Swan A practice that has a the power to change people perceptions. You're very welcome Nettie.
Damn this guy just gets it
Great video! This is one I am able to take a lot from and try new things. Thank you for taking time out of your life to help people who struggle and feel stuck in a dark room. That's a hard place to be when no one around you understands how suffocating it can be. People say "just stop thinking that way! It's that easy!" ……..um, no it isn't. So again, thank you.
amanda bales So very welcome. 🙏
Exactly what I needed today, thanks Dennis!
Great to see you Amy see you in your next program check-in's.

Great advice can't wait for another one on one therapy I highly recommend it to everyone!
Good stuff. I feel like right now I'm transitioning from fire to earth stage. Having a level progression kinda adds a fun element to recovery. Thanks for everything Dennis.
matt dryden Nice progress Matt good to be aware of which quadrant people live in.
Wow. This is eye opening. Thank you Dennis. I just realized I have sooooo much resistance. Even on good days I talk myself out of feeling good. Wow, just wow. I would like to hear more about desensitization. Please share some videos on that topic. 🙏
Thank you Dennis this video really resonated with me.
lisa Rodriguez Glad it helped Lisa Enjoy the channel. ❤️
Great video denis what you said is so true
Thanks for responding, it helps talking to guys like you who have gone through this. it can be so confusing because you dont know if the meds are working or making it worse. i have a great wife and 4 awesome kids, i feel guilty even being depressed, thanks again
Anxiety and Depression Suck The cycle can suck the life out of a person and this is the best Facebook support page you could be a part of: facebook.com/theanxietyguy take care.
Dear Dennis. I am in my recovery period but had few episodes of high anxiety in recent days. I was listening to your previous podcasts and videos but constantly thinking that would be great if you upload a video about recovery period and here it is.
I just want to say I am really greatfull of your helps and efforts.
thanks a million
Dennis could you explain to me the desensitization?
To lessen and eventually lose the fear of certain places, symptoms, experiences etc. Becoming less senstive to those perceived threats.
Congratulations on your progress Behzad glad I could help.
This is exactly how I feel. I've been this way so long. I catch myself being a victim. It's so hard to change. Love this video
Hi Angie great to hear from you.
What a great video. Thanks for the help.
Very welcome thanks for subscribing.
Thank you for your videos. I have been told to take meds a couple of times. My doctor wants me on them right at this moment but I’ve refused because I want to learn how to grow and grow out of this state myself. It’s hard. Sometimes feelings things for what you think is not reason. Telling yourself you’re going to do things and that you’re not scared and yet your body still resisting and acting up when you yourself feel you’re ready to move on. Thinking there must be something else causing these symptoms because I’m in what I think is a good state of mind. It’s strange but I keep going. It’s been two years and I don’t want to give up and go to the magic pill. I’m off work so it’s affected me but I don’t care. I want to do it this way. I want to learn and desensitize and accept and move towards life with courage and not fear.
I feel so depressed when the anxiety wins and I end up taking the klonopin that day. Its a relief the anxiety is gone but I feel like a failure . I feel like I will never truly be free
Kristyn Colon same here.
How you feel now?
Hi Dennis. Long time follower as you know. I looked this topic up because I feel like I’m at a crossroads and the resistance is so strong. It’s like I feel positive and empowered and trying to be who I’m really supposed to be but the subconscious is fighting it. I had two old, scary anxiety symptoms come up suddenly. It’s so discouraging. I will look up desensitization.
Man this was a million times better than my $140 therapy session. I keep telling them something is making me feel stuck with my relapse and feel I needed to be prepared for it or now assured by it and that I happens.
I had the same experience, which is the main reason why I chose to study CBT and NLP. I believe after working with so many people through my program that this combination is the best there is for anxiety recovery.
NLP?
An explanation: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuro-linguistic_programming
This is awesome- i understand! Cool.
Great advice
Great video .
photgraphing has helped me too, to overcome the worst moments. looking at the changing light, colors, shades of leaves, it constantly differs. then sorting the pics at home gave some rest again. best to all.
Great Dennis...I have started watching your videos
Vivek Gupta Enjoy the channel Vivek.
I love you Dennis ❤️
So true - for the past three weeks I’ve had a setback and felt like I was slipping backwards. I think sometimes it’s fear of the unknown that keep people back.
Donna Cianciosi Absolutely. ❤️
Earth. You are grounded.
Thank you 🙏
Hermon teame Teame So very welcome. 🙏❤️
WOW! I’m always collecting my “tools” and never using them. I’m used to being tired and comfortable. I’ve just been disappointed so many times. I’m not really sure I have the ENERGY for relationships or even what they are. Why do I NEED THEM? A lot of work.
I've been going to the gym 5 days a week for more than half my life (started 20 and now 43 yrs old), eat mainly and mostly plant based foods, been meditating for the past 4 months between mindfulness and yoga nidra styles and everything else in between and I'm still having interruptions in my sleep! I wake up every 2 to 3 hours. It doesn't help that I saw an article on my Google feed that sleep deprivation accelatrates alzheimers. I just want to be able to sleep straight through the night!
Can you please do a video going deep into systematic desensitization on driving alone , being home alone, etc etc
Thanks for the suggestion Jessica. Many have been asking for a video in to this CBT strategy so will definitely consider for the future.
Hi Dennis. I would love to find out more about system desensitisation Thanks
hi hru?? just letting u know lvoe this n a yt ad b4 this started says if you think youtube can helpu stop ur anxiety stop both dissing thier add adn u ; ( keep doing what ur doing
Dennis im doing so much better listening to your videos and podcasts. So thank you. My question is what do i do when literally all the time im off balance and foggy yet im happy and or practicing these methods during my anxieties that come up. That just doesnt seem to go away.
Find more time for peace and quiet. It's a signal from your body to slow down either mentally, emotional, or physically and if you can give it what it wants in time the symptoms will subside.
The Anxiety Guy thank you for your reply. I will take your advice. Its so comforting to know that someone out there understands and is willing to help with no judgment. You are an angel Dennis!💖
I'm frustrated at the fact I feel it and I try to get on with my life but it's still there!!!!!
And what happens if you have health anxiety and a doctor phobia too? Amazing combination 😝😝
Evridiki Doulami Even better, you can begin looking within, master your psychology and physiology:)
Truly be careful what you say to these people. I learned the hard way. They are so limited. Use THEM. But guard your mouth and heart. Take their freaking “your hearts ok” and leave. It’s all you need them for. So much more empowering than my over reacting perception of them having so much power OVER ME.
jesus dennis this is perfect yes exactiy keep jamming this in my head its clicking slowly and four sure i want to learn more about behaveing therpy teach me master lol talk soon
Great to hear from you always my friend.
I so agree with what your saying here, but, (yep there it is), I have suffered anxiety, chronic unprovoked panic, and agoraphobia for over 15 years, But started when I was around 10 years old. Over the years I have seen doctors and therapists, read hundreds of books, listened to thousands of Audible's in various formats, participated in 4 or 5 self help programs, and in pure desperation moved out of my life time home (I am 59 years old) in hopes the shock factor would change Something...and it did....everything got worse....much worse... I did not even believe it was possible. I went from 4/5 panic attacks per day...to almost nonstop. I was passing out, the dizziness took me down a flight of stairs twice. I'm my case...had I stayed in my comfort zone....I would have been better off. I have 2 associates, 1 bachelor and a masters in medicine. I am a military veteran. i have been a business owner. All the degrees and life experience is meaningless when you get up every day and fall on the floor and to crawl where ever you go.....and have all the medical tests come back fine. This exbaseration started with an episode while working at home on the computer where I suddenly could not breath and fell out of my office chair. Three ER visits later over a month I demanded a CT scan only to discover a pulmonary embolism. Two years later...same ER...abdominal pain (anxiety blamed once again)..sent home 3 times..found unconscious in my restaurant bathroom to find out I was in organ failure from mirizzi.syndrome....took 6 surgeries to fix that. So...Mr. Anxiety Guy....I now suffer health anxiety as well because I can not trust my own profession to get it right. so where do i go from here? Thoughts?? I'm all ears.
Hi Dennis why is it u think when I have a setback I feel so letdown and defeated? Sad and unhappy? Ps respond tku for all you do for us!
awesome
Enjoy. ❤️
Wind and fire are confusing to me. Omg. Just writing that now I see something! I NEED a calm steady fire in the right place. Not a brush fire which needs taming and is destructive. Cool!!
Dennis, do you speak at all about the unease in the in between? The you you are becoming feels odd or anxious because the you that is coming to be is not the you you were before. I’d been so wrapped up on anxiety I’m not sure who I now am??? Can you expound on this or have you? TY
Please can I have some info on this water, fire, earth wind technique please. Many Thx x
I love you dennis .. but the music in the back ground is taking my attention 🙄🙄🥰🥰😊😊😊😊😊😘😘😘😘😘😘
I would love to see your program in an app!
Quinn Mackie There's an idea ;)
Hi Dennis, I would like more information on systematic desensitization please.
Barbara McGorman This video will help: ua-cam.com/video/GKunZIVWd9M/v-deo.html
Hlo dennis a grear video. I am from india snd studying in australia. I have anxiety from 7 years in between i have recovered a lot of times but it still come back. Now i stopped my medicstions suddenly and choose natural way to deal it i am going through natural treatment but since than my anxiety has become worse should i start my medication again for some time.
Anxiety Guy, have you read the book Stop thinking, Start Living by Richard Carlson?
Dennis, I'm giving a lot of thought to this video and I just have to ask. Once someone is in Wind, do the symptoms and sensations go away? Is it possible for them to disappear or do we simply learn to live with them?
Amy Rodriguez They do go away, but prior to going away people become disassociated or not as interested in them and entertain common limiting thoughts less and less. ❤️
Do you have some info or videos on systematic desensitization? I am familiar with this because this has been the preferred treatment for driving in the car alone and agoraphobia. I'd like to know if you have anything else to add to it? Thanks, Becky
B Cat Sure Becky, this video will help: ua-cam.com/video/GKunZIVWd9M/v-deo.html and this program goes deep into it as well: theanxietyguy.com/my-program/
i really am not sure about systematic sensitization is that what i feel is a loss of ease and self worth band confidence
i would like to learn about desinsitation methods and acceptance. HENRY
Nice video, sadly everyone that I tell about these CBT based videos, will not provide full term relief from mental illness, what are your thoughts on this
Anya Szcal You bring up a very-very difficult subject - anxiety seems "logical" as result of too much stress and/or traumas, it is a state of exhaustion (Psychological, nervous system...), it is not mental illness. Mental illness is kind of an umbrella term for states pronounceable as illness with its symptoms, yet the cause and mechanism of a mental illness are mostly unknown to this day - wether is is basically psychological or physiological, or overlapping, and over wide spectrum... this question always stands, and treatments are tentative at best.
#morethananxiety
#morethananxiety ;)
i have been doing alright for weeks and i got a hypnic jerk, which led to an minor anxiety attack. Now i feel like I'm back to square one again :(
Setbacks are inevitable in recovery, see it as a learning experience not a failure.
systematic desensitization? can you please explain it to me.. :) thankyou
Tadeo Martin Pochhit ok thankyou so much. :)
After accepted whonych time u suffeeed suffered anxiety
I have a question for you. I really wamt to start doing some kind of behavioural therapy but i understand that things like CBT or NLP cost a lot of money how can i get access to these type of therapies if i dont have the money to afford it?
Daniel ANSON Study my videos and podcasts. It works around ACT, mindfulness, CBT, NLP and more. ❤️
The Anxiety Guy what's the name of your podcast?
HI I AM A ARTIST AND I WORKED FOR 10 YEARS IN A HOSTILE PLACE WITH SUBTLE CRITICIZERS AND ALL thats goes with it now i am away from it when i paint in my home it triggers and i dont feel happy painting anymore ?
sirchristopherwren52 The idea running in my mind is that the hostility of type place you were in (I’m guessing you painted there) created an a pairing/association to painting all together. When emotionally intense/traumatic events occur the mind groups together everything in that environment as being no good or potentially dangerous, hence the general connection now to painting. Solution would be to use emotional reframing techniques to reframe those past memories (my program and a playlist on my UA-cam channel has these), combined with taking conscious control of your focus and recognizing the things you enjoy about painting rather than allowing your interpretation be run my memory.
How do I learn more about info on mindfulness and. Recovery
There are tons of videos on UA-cam
My biggest problem is having ADHD and trying to get myself out of my anxiety circle when my thoughts are all over the place.
Ashlee Sup It’s possible, that your biggest problem is carrying the label of ADHD, and unconsciously playing out the characteristics in your everyday life. You aren’t ADHD, you’re thinking and behaving in ways that caused you to experience the symptoms of ADHD. Hope this helps in some way. ❤️
The Anxiety Guy Thank you. What I mean is I’m usually thinking about 5 different thoughts at a time. So when I’m trying to focus on overcoming the anxiety. I will redirect my way of thinking then boom it keeps coming back. I’m trying to get out of this circle of thoughts. I tend to get a feeling of my head spinning when it happens. Im trying my hardest though!
Can you give me more detailed steps on overcoming fears
Vicky B This video will help: ua-cam.com/video/sN__5yBCWvo/v-deo.html
OK well I keep coming in and out of the DP for days at a time but when I hit reality it becomes very scary because I'm not used to it after the past two years how would I handle it
I am doing everything to my ability that I know but it's just like a shock coming back to reality and feeling everything again
As long as you identify with being an anxious person, worry wart, whatever we call our identity/persona, recovery becomes difficult. We must seperate what we do from who we think we are. A complete detachment from our victim identity as we move towards flexibility in thinking and behaving.
Is it true that we can train our minds to where we won't have health anxiety anymore?
Most definitely. I see it on a daily basis.
I can't wait till I'm at that point! Health Anxiety is hard to deal with and explain!! The emotions and thoughts can be alot!! I'm struggling daily
@@sharonjames3954 me too. Hope your better
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👌
Who else is watching this video anxious?
P.s That little buddha is so nice 🧐
do you think its wrong to take meds, it seems like the benzos are helping because the panic is so bad, on 10 mg lexapro, i only plan on taking it for awhile, i havent been on any meds in over 5 years but feel like i need them again. its really hard because i want to heal naturally
Definitely ok to take as you work at CBT or another long term approach. It will give you the space to create new patterns of thought and behavior to desesitize yourself from those fears and anxiety.
Hi Dennis what if your afraid about how you breath and the heart beating
Stephanie Perez Consciously change your breathing patterns throughout the day, and change the way you see your heart beating from it being an unhealthy heart when it pounds, to a healthy one. Anything you fear has a pairing you've created. This pairing can change with practice as you begin seeing the opposite to it.
Dennis so I'm in nursing school right now and that's when the anxiety was triggered I'm assuming that's what caused the phobia with the heart beating and how the body breathes little better about it now then before I use to literally just visualize it beat and it would paralyze me I've also went through depersonalization and derealization it was so scarey had to be put on medication which has helped a bit just don't want this anxiety to get in the way of nursing school
Stephanie Perez Understood. Best to go through an actual method to make sure these pairings stick, and your core beliefs based around fear are altered. This program will help: anxietyexit.com/my-program/ keep in touch 🙏
dennis can you answer that for me
