Excited for this! I replaced my 4l60e with a replacement on my avalanche. I did it on my back, no lift only stands. It was scary, never did anything like this work before. Week before christmas last year took 4 days for out, in, running. I became very confident. Good luck and I cant wait to see this completed!
I also removed the 4l60e from my avalanche by myself. The trans is messed up cant even remove the components looks like a piece welded itself on the output shaft and its only the stock 5.3 with a 3000 stall that stall was fun the truck would actually spin the tires hard when punching it from a stop I guess its too heavy for the 60e to handle it so im thinking of swapping to a 4l80e with a 3200 stall.

Instead of reusing a mp3023 Transfercase originally mated to the 4l60(27 spline). You can opt for a NP263HD (NP1) transfer case which came in the 6.0 2500 trucks which are known to be much more stout 👍

@@darkshadow5730 That's exactly what I'm talking about. My transfer case wouldn't fit because it would either hit the torsion bar crossmember or get stuck on the studs coming out from the top of transmission. So I removed those studs from the top of tranny, then I stuck the rear of the transfer case up above the crossmember as far as possible. That allows just enough clearance so when you raise the front of the transfer case you can now put it on the remaining studs. Replace the studs you removed with bolts of the same size. I hope that helps.

I just went through my 3rd built 4l60e. Pulled the trigger and bought a 4l80 yesterday. Hopefully this will last me. It wasn’t the builder’s fault, ever since I lowered my truck the driveshaft has been putting a lot of pressure on my trans, any ideas?
@@gabes9998 I went with @driveshaftpros on Instagram, they know what they’re doing He said this 4’ billet driveshaft is better than 2 piece driveshafts, which they also sell

So that's Two 4L60's bad! What the heck man I just want to be able to tow, maybe get some firewood or manure But I am having the worse luck with the dang 4L60 the trans problems are a real issue, another problem is two of your amazon links the item isn't available, so it is like dang, want to make a change but are parts still around to do it? cool video.
@@TahoeSteve Last week blew the rebuilt 4L60 trans that is 3 transmissions in less than two years and this one I had a huge transmission cooler installed but I think I figured out part of the problem it's the engine, when I am towing it consistently revs up to keep speed on any uphill, like not enough power so that automatically heats up the trans more and I am sure that's what did this last one in. Have you ever thought about upgrading the engine to a 6.0 or 6.2 ?
I’m interested in either a 4L80e swap or a 6L60e swap, have you done any research into a 6L60 swap I couldn’t find much other than people looking for info same as me, mainly want a 6 speed for the fuel mileage and long uphills
Hey Steve have an AWD original tranny 4l65E I'd like to do this swap but have AWD not 4x4. Also towing a lot that's why I like this. You said won't hit race track. Well I'm in toronto and limit is 100km is limit but everyone goes 120 and if you don't keep up horns start popping if you hear me. How slow to say is it. I mean acceleration not that big of a deal top speed wondering though?
I have had no issues with top speed. The thing is perfectly happy at 90 mph (144km) so unless I misunderstood your question, there should be no issues.
I did not mind paying extra for a bullet proof converter from a quality manufacturer. The upgrade was the billet front end, the matching bolt pattern was a bonus. The holes in my old flexplate were oblong and the flexplate slipped a little in the holes, so yes, i got a new one.
Hey Tahoe, I am having crazy proble.s with a fresh rebuild 4l60e no miles on it. Wont start off in 1st wont manual shift to first, floats on 2nd. Replaced and adjusted neutral switch, swapped solenoids, cleaned shuttles and valve etc. Nothing working.

I'm glad I seen this been wanting to for a wile and I work in hudson FL so that's a awesome deal that's were il get transmission I have a supercharger coming in mail bow so need soon
Cool video, awesome project. Can't wait to go through your channel and see how this is coming along or if it's finished. One thing that I don't understand is how can a man who can figure out how to go through all this information and work, not figure out how to get a man's haircut?
Covid-19.
The information in these videos will it help my swap my 99 suburban or are the trucks to much different
I'm not sure, hopefully someone will chime in......
Thank u so much for doing & sharing all ur research just to help others like me, subscribe 100% for sure! This is awesome! Thank u again sir, God bless
Very good info thank you
Very welcome
Was that 1 11/16s the correct amount to shorten the rear driveshaft?
it did work for me. over a year and no problems.
Good explanation!! New subscriber!!!
Are the measurements right on the driveshaft length?
Can't you just use the same bolts for the flywheel you have listed we can get on Amazon? The bolts that comes off the the original 4l60e flywheel?
Are you using a dished flywheel with the 3 bolt pattern TC?
I have a 2000 suburban which I'm going to do a 6.0 and 4l80 swap. I already have the motor, tranny, and transfer case. Any advice?
Did you get yours done? I went to put in transfer case and its a tight fit between transmission and torsion bar cross member
@@darkshadow5730 Yea, I had to remove the top 2 studs to slide the transfercase in. I replaced them with bolts.
@@hitmanshadowrecon9017 im refering to the crossmember holding the torsion bars in the transmission support cross member is out
@@darkshadow5730 That's exactly what I'm talking about.
Hey man I’m doing the 4L65 to 4l80
But I wanna keep the flex plate that the 4l65 has which bolt patter do I need to order on my torque converter the 3x10.75 or the 3x11.066?
Doing a LS swap on my 99 Chevy Tahoe 4x4 gonna put a 5.3 with a 4L80
I have a question would a 4l80e last longer than a 4l60e and will it take more abuse
Yes and Yes.
@@TahoeSteve is 4l80e has better torque than 4l60?
What is the cost of doing the sway I'm on the the fence about doing it on mine vs having mine beefed up

What would ya do about an 98 gmc 4l80e swap for that year. I need better pulling power.
Did my comment not go through? I was curious if my 2006 GTO would mate to the 80e with the adapter you suggested in the link.
I'm the same person as above comment. My tranny parts are in the link i'm going to post, and the crossmember and flexplate are already installed but I wasn't sure how to get the computer to control the 80e so i was looking for an adapter. Great video by the way. Any advice would be great.

I honestly have no idea try calling the transmission place and they will be able to give you a definitive correct answer
Tahoe Steve Yikes. I called them and they sent me to another company to ask. And then those people told me they have nothing for the 60e to 80e.. so it was just an incredibly useless experience and that’s why I’m here lol
OK, let's backup, what engine do you have on your GTO?
Tahoe Steve it is an LS based 427 dart SHP block.
I just went through my 3rd built 4l60e. Pulled the trigger and bought a 4l80 yesterday. Hopefully this will last me. It wasn’t the builder’s fault, ever since I lowered my truck the driveshaft has been putting a lot of pressure on my trans, any ideas?
custom two piece driveshaft
@@gabes9998 I went with @driveshaftpros on Instagram, they know what they’re doing He said this 4’ billet driveshaft is better than 2 piece driveshafts, which they also sell
@@jasonloera3358 if you happen to remember could you let me know how that works out I'm looking at doing this in the next few months
@@gabes9998 will do, reply to my comment in a month. Should be running and fixed by then

Will a 4l60e out of a 2007 Yukon xl 4x4 work in a 2003 Chevy Tahoe z71 4x4?
not sure. hopefully, someone will chime in.
Yes it will
Making me rethink an 80e swap...
Nice video thank u
Man I don't know what route to go, I bought the 4x4 tahoo 2000 5.3 a month later the 4L60 blew, got another one in and just today spent 2.6k on total suspension replacements and the tech drove it afterwards to check his work and told me my trans is bad, like it could go at any time.
So that's Two 4L60's bad! What the heck man I just want to be able to tow, maybe get some firewood or manure But I am having the worse luck with the dang 4L60 the trans problems are a real issue, another problem is two of your amazon links the item isn't available, so it is like dang, want to make a change but are parts still around to do it?
cool video.
which parts, I can update the links.
@@TahoeSteve Transmission Dipstick, GM 15765623 COVER,TRANS CONV
,HP Tuners M02-008-02 , looks like just these three
@@TahoeSteve Last week blew the rebuilt 4L60 trans that is 3 transmissions in less than two years and this one I had a huge transmission cooler installed but I think I figured out part of the problem it's the engine, when I am towing it consistently revs up to keep speed on any uphill, like not enough power so that automatically heats up the trans more and I am sure that's what did this last one in.
Have you ever thought about upgrading the engine to a 6.0 or 6.2 ?
All the time!
You the man.
appreciate that!
I’m interested in either a 4L80e swap or a 6L60e swap, have you done any research into a 6L60 swap I couldn’t find much other than people looking for info same as me, mainly want a 6 speed for the fuel mileage and long uphills
I'm sorry, I did no research on the 6L60e. Perhaps someone else can chime in .
What do I need to make 4 x 4 transmission to 2 Wheel Drive Already removed the transfer case
A 2wd transmission and driveshaft.
Unfortunately not possible, best to find someone that wants to trade a 2wd for a 4wd trans.
Is the (20ft braided oil lines) for the replacement for cooling lines?
yes
Hey Steve have an AWD original tranny 4l65E I'd like to do this swap but have AWD not 4x4. Also towing a lot that's why I like this. You said won't hit race track. Well I'm in toronto and limit is 100km is limit but everyone goes 120 and if you don't keep up horns start popping if you hear me. How slow to say is it. I mean acceleration not that big of a deal top speed wondering though?
I have had no issues with top speed. The thing is perfectly happy at 90 mph (144km) so unless I misunderstood your question, there should be no issues.
Tahoe Steve hey, I was wondering what is the part number for the new trans harness from Michigan motors?
Do you know the length of your driveshaft now?
You paid extra for a custom converter to match your flexplate, then replaced the flexplate anyway?
I did not mind paying extra for a bullet proof converter from a quality manufacturer. The upgrade was the billet front end, the matching bolt pattern was a bonus. The holes in my old flexplate were oblong and the flexplate slipped a little in the holes, so yes, i got a new one.
Great video
i appreciate that
what do you recommend for a 6.2 L92 full bolt on pushing 450hp?
4l80 Fs
@@alfredohernandez4035 my tranny just went out today😭 thinking about putting in a built 4L80, is the conversation hard. how much did it cost you?
My 97 gmc if for right in everything hooked up but the 4x4 won’t kick in
Hey Tahoe, I am having crazy proble.s with a fresh rebuild 4l60e no miles on it. Wont start off in 1st wont manual shift to first, floats on 2nd. Replaced and adjusted neutral switch, swapped solenoids, cleaned shuttles and valve etc. Nothing working.
I had a shop do mine, the only thing I did was pull it and put it back. Auto Transmissions still remain a complete mystery to me.
Tahoe Steve. I have just completed my swap. But I'm running into what I believe is some tuning issues. I'm getting 2 codes after po745 and po840 I believe. Can you provide any info on what you did for the tune?
