- Jaguar Supercharger removal from my S Type R.
My Jaguar S type R has been sat outside my workshop for the past 3 months waiting for me to remove the supercharger and find a coolant leak.
While the supercharger is off, im going to have it rebuilt and upgraded for more power. I'm also planning to replace alot of the coolant hoses, belts and give the engine bay a general tidy and clean up.

I had a 2005 S type R and a 2006 V6 come up for sale last year locally not knowing which motor would be more fun to work on. You've made me really glad we went with a V6. Still involves the whacky removal of wipers, etc. to change coils and plugs but not quite so knuckle busting. I've been into vintage Cadillacs, Bmws, Mercedes for years but at 66, I hope these Jaguars can be easily found for the rest of my life. Thanks for posting such good videos for the community 🍻.
Thank you for your comment Melissa. I have had a very and now the v8 and they both have their quirks lol
Thank you so much for posting!!! Both of my STR’s are in need of this!!!
Thanks for watching
Thanks mate! Have to do the same job on my XJR next week. Big coolant leak from the back of the engine. Pretty sure the source is one of the hoses below the supercharger. Luckily I have a very good mechanic at my side, or rather I'm at his side 😅
Best regards from Germany
Thanks for watching
Wow... I am literally just about to do this on my 2003 STR as I've got a knock sensor issue and a slow coolant leak. I'm gonna follow the workshop guide but nice to see someone else doing it
Hope ot helps. The first time I did the job was for the knock sensors
@@MarksWheels I love my str but it's honestly weird how we all seem to get the same problems. Obviously all car models have common issues but literally everyone I talk about an issue will say "oh yeah I had that one last year" lol.
On another note, have you heard of powerhouse? They specialise in our model of SC. I'm not 100% on if they do refurbs but they offer pulley upgrades so might be worth asking them.
Cheers and I look forward to part 2!
@@WHern-gs6im I have actually been in contact with powerhouse today. They are going to take a look and see what they can do
@@MarksWheels Brilliant. That's good news
@A Huddleston Sorry to hear it! If it's any help then I can point you in the direction of the Jaguar Workshop manuals. They're online so can just be accessed via computer. Makes it a bit easier.
Nice job and good information 👍🏻🙂
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it
Great vid!!! Will be the video I have me new mechanic view
Good to hear. Thanks for watching
12:05 same with mine, car ran so poorly, and I had it just for a few days so it feared the sht out of me 😅 Great video, I want to rebuild my SC too and fix a little coolant leak, problem looks quite similar to yours 😄
Good luck with it and thanks for watching
@@MarksWheels BTW sorry to interrupt again, but did you checked your radiator? I had to change it on my 3.0 and it looks even worse on my STR... I assume you already had a look at that, but if not, it's really a good idea to have an eye on that... Otherwise it saggs more and more and then bursts.
@@maxmusterman6030 Yeah, mines not great. The last time i was in there i cleaned some crud out but could probably do with it again
Great content dude
Thank you Jumol
Mark, I have a 2005 STR with 133K km on it. I've seen the Wheeler Dealer 100K mile jag that had the same coating problem you show. Having fixed EGR, DCCV and the climate control module is being fixed in the US (I'm in Canada) - any idea if, when this could be a problem for me. What's the mileage on your STR? Great videos - my mechanic thanks you, so do I.!!
Thanks for the comment! The people who rebuilt mine assured me that the coating is not a problem and that any boost lost is very minimal
Great video very informative. How much do you reckon it would cost to fix a valley coolant leak similar to the one you described at a good Jag specialist? Many thanks
I'm not sure. It is quite an involved job and would be best to replace the coolant at the same time. I would probably expect around £1000 depending on what their hourly labour rate is.
Did you ever figure out what size the tensioner for the supercharger was?? Trying to replace a shredded serpentine and idler pulley. Also, is it a must to take out coolant reservoir and remove coolant hoses to get belts off? Thanks!
I ended up buying a whole kit with new tensioner and bracket, idler and belt from britishparts.co.uk. Part number BPK189. It was quite expensive but looks to be an upgraded part. The old tensioner from memory was a 13mm and the new one was 15mm i think
Hi guys hope someone can help me. I know on this video you're not there yet but once you fill the coolant back do you just turn the ignition key to on position to start the water pump and start bleeding the hoses? Thank you!
Hi Signia. There are also bleed screw on the charge coolers and a large allen screw next to the supercharger.
You guys don't have the cabin filter contraption on yours? Or I might have missed it
The cabin filter is on the passenger side under the scuttle on ours
Hi, I have a question. What seals or needed or part to replace that hose. Im about to do yhis on my str.
Regards
Hi. Which hose are you referring to?
Hey mark I was wondering if you have ever deleted the cats I’m from Florida in the us and I would like to delete them but not with the mini cats because it will lean for a second when going WOT I found this thing called ez cel fix for the jaguar I’m just curious what your input is !
Hi! I haven't done so no. Our emmisions laws require some form of catalytic converter for cars of this age. I know they will fail at some point and i will have to do something as they are £800 each but i'll worry about that when the time comes.
No part 2?
Not yet lol. Waiting for the supercharger to come back. It's will be worth the wait though
@@MarksWheels awesome sounds good I got worried.
Also might you have any info on flushing the coolant?
Last owner added green to the orange and it slugged up.
When all of the hoses are put together I don't know if I should run a water hose through one end or just add water and let it run for a few minutes to loosen it up and drain.
@@MrKoritime I'd run the hose pipe through until its cones out clean
@@MarksWheels which hose should I start the flush from?
@@MrKoritime I would go in the top radiator hose and out the bottom one then do the radiator After
Did this during the year deleted my egr valve car goes way better without it
Thought about doing that too. Did you have it mapped out afterwards to stop the eml illuminating?
@@MarksWheels Yeah I'm going to have to I'm in New Zealand and have a guy that thinks he can do it but I've been reading the denzo computer is hard to work with so we will find out either way real soon , but hey is it even really a jag if the engine light isn't on 🤭
@@jamiesmith8313 Haha, this is true. Only problem we have over here is that it is an MOT failure although i think mine falls just below that age bracket. Il have to check
@@MarksWheels Luckily here eml doesn't effect getting w.o.f's so I have a grace period to sort once I find a definitive answer I'll let you know how I went 🤙
These are very not fun to work on.bit very fun to drive
Your not wrong there!
