I've heard a few people make the assertion that polygamy was supported by God because it happened in the Hebrew Scriptures but God was never okay with it. In the beginning of the Bible, a man was supposed to have one wife and it's reiterated toward the end of the Bible. Polygamy was allowed for a specific purpose that was already achieved. There's no room for it's allowance anymore.
