Those 307 engines were awesome. They made no power at all but they would last forever if you took care of them. That car could do 300k on that engine if it was taken care of without much trouble.
I'm guilty of flagging down one of these cars in traffic just to show my friend the "Lightning Rod Shifter" because they didn't believe me that a car was ever made like that. It was a cool gimmick in hindsight, but I've been enamored with the G-Bodies ever since I seen a TR do a rolling burnout at about 30 MPH as a 9 yr. old kid. I've owned multiple G-Bodies since then and I get pretty bummed out when I see good ones in the yards that only needed the right owner. After owning or working on some of the cool varieties, I wanted to build a bastard car like an LC2 powered Gran Prix 2+2 (or Aero Coupe) with the Lightning Rod Shifter and 8.5 G80 rear. LS swaps are cool, but I jump over obstacles when I hear a boosted Buick V6 coming down the road.
i flag down a nice Gbody owner when I see one too. Yeah the lightning rod shifter was def a unique addition to the H/O back in the day. Sounds like you need yourself a Gbody
What many here don't understand is what a massive improvement these 1983/84 Hurst Olds Cutlasses were over the 1981/82 versions of these cars that came in a sporty Calais coupe trim but the top gas fired V8 option was a dog slow 100 HP 4.3 liter 260 V8 that could only do 0-60 in 16.5 seconds and way over 20 in the 1/4 mile! These Hurst Cutlasses in contrast made 180 HP, were attached to 200R-4 4 speed transmissions with 3.73 rear gears and typical lower mileage solid running examples were 7.5 second cars with mid 15's in the 1/4 miles. Back in the 1980's that was a massive huge improvement and made these cars a lot more fun to drive and some of the quickest mid size coupes available at the time.
Hey Brian it’s been a long time since we’ve talked or since I’ve seen any updated videos from you are you still on UA-cam and making new car videos Brian? I miss seeing you on UA-cam my friend
I automatically hit thumbs up before I even watched the video. I ABSOLUTELY love love LOVE these cars, all years too. These and the 442's are dream cars of mine.

Real sweetheart time capsule... love the Keystone Klassics they make it complete. I’d hoped the owner kept the Ralleye wheels too. Sorry I jumped gun the owner kept original wheels. My 81 Monte had same color interior. Loved that car.
I bought an 84 Monte Carlo back in 92. I just loved the car. Was in great shape back then for being an 8 year old car. I still have it to this day. It never was a daily driver though
Man bro bring me back memories I owned like 7 of those Hurst and 5 salon and 4 calais and I was IGNORANT to there value AND would FLIP them like a cheeseburger. AND SELL them very cheap or trade them For other cars in my area that I liked.👍💪👊😉✌
Are those Keystone Klassic wheels? I used to have a set of those on a 68 Mustang I had but haven’t seen a set of them in probably a couple of decades. Very cool!
brian5o I know exactly what you’re saying, I own and El Camino and when I bought the car it had them on. After owning the car for 3 years i have only seen one other car with them on.
David Zak those wheels actually got me into cars. I was maybe 5 or 6 n vividly remember seeing an 82 regal, two tone blue with a set of these n raised white letter tires. I later on ended up buying the car, in far worse shape, but those wheels were still on it
That car slick especially being a Ohio car!! When ever I’m up there visiting my Pops you hardly see any old school rides out and about. Once that salt/snow gets a hold it’s over with like it got submerged in pond
How does that 307 compare to the 305 Chevy engine that came in the Monte Carlos and Grand Prixs? I never did understand what all the shifters are for. That car begs for the original wheels to be back on it.
What's up brotha been following your channel for about 5 years now. Jus recently sold my 78 Monte Carlo n was wondering if you have any Gbodys for sale. Great job with the channel man love watching whether I own a Gbody or not.. Thanks man..
God that’s an incredibly well kept vehicle.I would love to be able to drop my Monte off to Brian and have it gone through like that. A guy that knows these cars backwards and forwards and has love for them would definitely fix things right and not halfass them . Thank you for the share
Yes back in the day quite a few people tried to build these engines. It can be done but in the end you can get twice the power for half the money by just dropping in a chevy 350. Because of that it never really caught on at all.
I have an 86 442 with ported stock heads on it. It also has an aftermarket intake, distributor and headers/ dual exhaust. After driving a bone stock 442 of the same year I would say that it does give you a bump in power but not enough to justify the labor. Want to go faster just get a 350.
I had one. Drove to Indy for 1st H/O club meeting. Got to take a lap of track. 2 locals broke the rules, racing, smoking tires, etc. Ran away from Track Marshals, LOL. I couldnt join in and then take off, as I came from SoCal. Well, yeah, I had relatives nearby, but I didnt.
Got a question I'm sure you would know... So I own a 1983 Hurst/Olds 15th Anniversary edition and my badging compared to this '84 is different, at idea why ? The header panel & dash badges differ alot... Only difference i see other than that is the obvious reverse color change... Thanks
Dude, very nice find. Can't wait for the next find. Keep up with video's. People forget about the 80s muscle. These cars ushered in the muscle and sports cats we drive today.
I had the same car in the early 90's, but I beat it to death, drove it hard, then sold it for $700. Bucks a few years later . Was a fun car. Frame went bad too .
I havent been keeping up with this channel recently is the 83 Silverado still around and being driven? I assume its still going to be used in the 84 Silverado (I think those are the correct years of your trucks)
Classic G-Body Garage yeah thanks for the update :) even at retired is it still a yard truck? would imagine it be hard to get rid of it even though its in a state of disrepair
That's a cool Cutlass!! IIRC you were kind of limited on your color options with the Hurst package, it was this silvery grey, all black with red graphics or white with red graphics, correct??? Also a shame this body style came in right when horsepower took an even worse nose-dive from 5-6 years before. How hard is it to swap an Olds 455 under the hood? Is it the same physical size as the 307?
I think the only exterior size difference between the 307 and 455 is the deck height. Ive seen more 455 in gbody cutlasses than I can count. Not a hard swap.
These have to be some of the coolest cars of their time. I don't have one of these but I do have a 79 Hurst black and gold. Got it for 800 bucks from my dad's buddy who let it sit since 95 so it does need a lot of work. My favorite car I own is a one owner 86 regal with 14k original miles. An old lady took excellent care of it. Looks like it rolled of the showroom.
Classic G-Body Garage I thought so too. The black interior is super clean the only rust is in the trunk lid. I hope to get around to a restoration here soon may post a video on it before
I have an 84 cutlass special edition does anyone know the difference or anything about a special edition ive tried to find info on it but cant seem to find much
i got my 88 fix needed tune up has stock 305 but on my 84 i had built 350 4bolt bored .40 over smog legal cam and everything stock internals could i use stock qudrajet Carburetor ?
I have a 1982 Chevrolet Malibu Classic that my dad bought new. I got it from him in 1989 and still have it. I don't believe it is worth much, but I like it. I think that the factory gold hubcaps (RPO 55P)and redwood metallic (77) paint look good together too!
Those 307 engines were awesome. They made no power at all but they would last forever if you took care of them. That car could do 300k on that engine if it was taken care of without much trouble.
A 350 Oldsmobile crate would slip in this SO easy.
@@w41duvernay that what's in my 84 cutlass 2door💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
I remember almost buying one in the mid 90’s for 3k. Still kick myself to this day.
steve rodriguez I kick myself in the butt 2 I kno how u feel . If I did buy one bk in the 90's I think I'd still have it
no point looking backwards..nothing but regrets going backwards
I love the three gear sticks in these Hurst Olds
I'm guilty of flagging down one of these cars in traffic just to show my friend the "Lightning Rod Shifter" because they didn't believe me that a car was ever made like that. Great filming. Sweet editing. Great production. I've had my eye on an 84 parked in storage for 20 years. Owner won't sell.
thanks and keep on him!

Hey Brian it’s been a long time since we’ve talked or since I’ve seen any updated videos from you are you still on UA-cam and making new car videos Brian? I miss seeing you on UA-cam my friend
My buddy put a lightning rod set up in his gnx believe it or not. He has 5 of them the one with the shifter in it is one he built makes 830 rwh
Can you do a video about power antenna on a 1979 Olds Cutlass Supreme Brougham?
I can do a power antenna video sure.
Buddy of mine has an 84, only 166 miles on it. Original owner. fully documented.
Damn!
Would love to have that car
I know where an Every Option blue 1980 Z28 lives, with 24 miles on it.
buy it
Same as the 3rd owner 70 Hemi Cuda guy, not for sale
Hard starts
I automatically hit thumbs up before I even watched the video. I ABSOLUTELY love love LOVE these cars, all years too. These and the 442's are dream cars of mine.
Thanks for your support Troy
I absolutely love the g-bodys that thing is mint.
Also love those cars but this hurst Oldsmobile personally I don't like how it looks with that rear spoiler
If I'm not mistaken the 83's came with the 7.5 rears and the 84's came with the more desireable 8.5's?
You are correct!
Yes that’s 100% correct and both the 83 and 84 came with 3.73 gears not 3.42 gears described in this video.

Love that GM starter sound
haha me too
Yep, me too. Nowadays, today's American cars start uo like Japanese ones do.
Still beautiful.. I would leave it just as is...much character.. I'm about same age group as the owner.
Wanted one back then and still would buy one. Had an 81 maroon Monte Carlo that was a just gorgeous car.
Real sweetheart time capsule... love the Keystone Klassics they make it complete. I’d hoped the owner kept the Ralleye wheels too. Sorry I jumped gun the owner kept original wheels. My 81 Monte had same color interior. Loved that car.
The story of my 83 Cutlass is the same except it was driven by an elderly lady
Love those keystone klassik wheels
I bought an 84 Monte Carlo back in 92. I just loved the car. Was in great shape back then for being an 8 year old car. I still have it to this day. It never was a daily driver though
what engine
LOL I'll be damned ... that's so cool. I had a Hurst Olds just like that in the early 90s.My second car & I loved it.
If you only knew then, what you know now eh? Bet you would've hung onto it
And I love the 1979 350 hurst olds
I love those hurst olds they are getting more difficult to find
Man bro bring me back memories I owned like 7 of those Hurst and 5 salon and 4 calais and I was IGNORANT to there value
AND would FLIP them like a cheeseburger.
AND SELL them very cheap or trade them
For other cars in my area that I liked.👍💪👊😉✌
I like the gbody cars I should've got me one bk n the mid 90's. I liked the cutlass supreme brogham and the 442. It's a cut la ass
Still plenty out there to buy one.
Are those Keystone Klassic wheels? I used to have a set of those on a 68 Mustang I had but haven’t seen a set of them in probably a couple of decades. Very cool!

I have those wheels on my 81 el Camino
That car slick especially being a Ohio car!! When ever I’m up there visiting my Pops you hardly see any old school rides out and about. Once that salt/snow gets a hold it’s over with like it got submerged in pond
Yeah most are gone and have been for years.
How does that 307 compare to the 305 Chevy engine that came in the Monte Carlos and Grand Prixs? I never did understand what all the shifters are for. That car begs for the original wheels to be back on it.
Yeah it needs original wheels back in it. 305 and 307 were pretty comparable
My brother had one. It was loved very much!! What happened to the original Old's wheels?
The owner has the original wheels.
How many wires on a coolant temp sensor on the thermostat housing 1 or 2 on a 305 V8
Depends on the car. 1 or 2
I have one with t tops goin through it now it’s a dog with the 307 but I love it king of the gbodies
They weren't built for cruising and looking good doing it.
very Rough and dirty for a one owner. One owner only really means something with the car is exceptionally clean.
How does cleanliness have anything to do with 1 owner? All 1 owner cars are not pristine.
Can u answer that question
I'm jealous lol
What's up brotha been following your channel for about 5 years now. Jus recently sold my 78 Monte Carlo n was wondering if you have any Gbodys for sale. Great job with the channel man love watching whether I own a Gbody or not.. Thanks man..
i would love to have the 8.5 373s & drive shaft out of 1 of those, they are hard to find.
They are hard to find but around.
God that’s an incredibly well kept vehicle.I would love to be able to drop my Monte off to Brian and have it gone through like that. A guy that knows these cars backwards and forwards and has love for them would definitely fix things right and not halfass them . Thank you for the share
Rims are original?
Coool video I’m subscribing, do you have any videos on monte carlo ss?
My personal favorite G-Body
TheDude4077 more than the Grand National?
anyone try milling and porting the stock heads to have a little fun with the 307?
Yes back in the day quite a few people tried to build these engines. It can be done but in the end you can get twice the power for half the money by just dropping in a chevy 350. Because of that it never really caught on at all.

I would put the stock wheels back on it or upgrade to 17 inch wheels. Nice car!
Nice car but the Darth Vader is sweet!
Learned to drive in 84 loved that car
I had one. Drove to Indy for 1st H/O club meeting. Got to take a lap of track. 2 locals broke the rules, racing, smoking tires, etc. Ran away from Track Marshals, LOL. I couldnt join in and then take off, as I came from SoCal. Well, yeah, I had relatives nearby, but I didnt.
haha damn thats funny.
can I send you my 78 regal for repairs? lol
Got a question I'm sure you would know... So I own a 1983 Hurst/Olds 15th Anniversary edition and my badging compared to this '84 is different, at idea why ? The header panel & dash badges differ alot... Only difference i see other than that is the obvious reverse color change... Thanks
Badges are different due to 15th anniversary vs not.
Classic G-Body Garage got it... Thanks
I am an Olds dude.1978 and 1979 are my favs.I seen one the Aztec interior. They are pretty rare.Cool videos😎
Yep the Aztec interiors are rare.

Dude, very nice find. Can't wait for the next find. Keep up with video's. People forget about the 80s muscle. These cars ushered in the muscle and sports cats we drive today.
Thanks Jerry!
I love that you could get a hold of a survivor.
I have a question for you. How much do u know about the oldsmobile gt division? I have got a 1985 cutlass salon gt I need more info on it.
The GT was a dealer option, not a factory option.
Hey ! I have one of these cars its 1984 Oldsmobile cutlass supreme ! 😇 please hit me up I need help
Its not a hurts or like the one in the video, but mine has same interior and everything and its a 307 but not to sure what I got here ?? Need help
Grab hold of those Lightning Rods! Makes me want to get back on my '84 Hurst project! Nice video!
Thanks
I had the same car in the early 90's, but I beat it to death, drove it hard, then sold it for $700. Bucks a few years later . Was a fun car. Frame went bad too .
happened to many of them
So glad I found this channel
I'm glad you found it too! Thanks for watching and for your comment.
I havent been keeping up with this channel recently is the 83 Silverado still around and being driven? I assume its still going to be used in the 84 Silverado (I think those are the correct years of your trucks)
It's been retired for some time. Still have plans for the 84. My garage and other projects have taken priority. Thanks for checking back.
Classic G-Body Garage yeah thanks for the update :) even at retired is it still a yard truck? would imagine it be hard to get rid of it even though its in a state of disrepair
you got all them G-body's and I wish I had at least just one of them G-body's. You should let me have one.
I sell them all the time. Follow my instragram. classicgbodygarage Thanks for watching!
Just don't drive it please, Canadian road salt is the number 1 enemy for these classic cars
It gets put away for the winters. I know that living in Ohio.
83 Hurst is Black with silver 84 Hurst is Silver with black, both with red stripes.
I think the only exterior size difference between the 307 and 455 is the deck height. Ive seen more 455 in gbody cutlasses than I can count. Not a hard swap.
So were the 3.73 gears swapped out for 3.42 gears on this car?
They came with 3:73, I mis-spoke
These have to be some of the coolest cars of their time. I don't have one of these but I do have a 79 Hurst black and gold. Got it for 800 bucks from my dad's buddy who let it sit since 95 so it does need a lot of work. My favorite car I own is a one owner 86 regal with 14k original miles. Nice deal on the H/O.
