  • How to pollinate a Female Date Palm Tree with Date Male Flowers (tricks of the trade).
We are privileged to have had Scott F. + 1 (6O2) 39S-9S66 join us and walk us through this pollinating process and if you’re looking to buy or purchase organic dates from very much loved date trees in Southwestern Arizona (Waddell, AZ) for your consumption or other, you may contact Scott at the number above. (Note: replace the letters with the appropriate numbers. This is to prevent the robots.) Scott grows and harvests dates here locally, so he has some of the best and great varieties that one could find, but most importantly, he cares for his trees with love, which makes those trees give off the best fruit.

Thank you for this very informative video! I would like to communicate with Scott, as I need to buy some date palm pollen for our female date palm tree.

I would love to set that up for you, but you may want to just call him at the Phoenix Zoo.

You can try and search for a date palm farm or someone that has a date male palm and just ask if you can take some of the flowers from them and you can use them for years.

Found some pollen - how can you tell when to pollinate ? Afraid I missed the time as there are little balls already on the sheath and it’s pretty spread out? Thankyou for this awesome video!

      Hello,
Great to hear you got the pollen. I hope you didn’t miss the timeline. Usually you just look for the flowers when they are open on the female tree and polenate it. If the flowers are not open, it’s not yet ready. If you pollinate after, I don’t think it’s a problem except if there are other near by male trees that may have pollinated yours already, but even then, your pollen would be predominant since it would be introduced right at the flower source.

Well, the polen you probably have could pollinate a lot of trees and fruit for years, so I would probably try anyways if it was me. Unfortunately, my palm teees here are gone, as I sold my home and moved to NC, and the new owner as I understand, removed the date palms. I wanted to cry. Although not mine, I hoped someone would enjoy them… :(

Thanks for sharing. I wonder how old your date trees are. And how can you tell a male date pam from a female date palm tree?

I don’t know how you can tell the mail date palm from female date palm but Scott would definitely know. My date palms were about 5-6 years old. I only had them in my land for about 3 years as I bought them a bit more mature. Last year they made my first crop and this year, since I moved to North Carolina, the new owner I heard ripped them out and threw them away. :( maybe he has animals that Dates are not good for them. I don’t know.

I don't recommend working the fruit on palms that young. I cut all the flowers off for the first 4 years and just let the palm grow. In year 5 I cut off 2 out of 3. I start working them more around year 8.

How tall do you let it get before doing this? New grower here. Thank you!

@@MetalMan1023 even at year 8 they will not have much of a trunk so to answer how tall is not really possible. It's about year 8 give or take that they do start gaining a trunk and therefore height. Where are you growing?
