With all the sound effects my wife woke up and thought I was watching porn. We had a good laugh at that. I did very much enjoy your video, great to see your passion and appreciate the explanations.
One of the most exciting fights I've ever seen Paul. Just awesome. One to remember for a long time. That is, until the next one takes you down to the next river crossing. Well done.
Very impressed that you returned the fish: I was told many years ago that long trotting always causes salmon to be gut hooked and therefore impossible to return. Clearly this is not true. Very interesting to watch the technique.
Awesome video mate, the video volume is very low which is annoying but you should try connect a microphone to you? Quite cheap on Ebay or online but great video
dear Paul so good of you to reply my comments were made in a light hearted manner with no offence or malice intended. PS. I like the cut of your jib and would like to meet up on the Avon in the near future yours Gerald.
Thanks , I have 5 more films to come, including how to use a bouncing Betty and an epic battle with a 22 lb salmon. Took me 50 yards up the centre arch of ibsley bridge pool. I was playing it against the bridge and eventually it turned and took off at high speed stripping 100 yards of line and heading toward the hatches of the weir pool! You'll enjoy this one!
He can fish this fella! But that river is full off salmon and he pays alot to fish there! I only fish the Itchen and its alot tougher especially the public stretch but we get a fair few!👍🏴☠️
some rivers band the prawn because its too effective ! I my experience most fish are scissor hooked and if you use barbless the hooks drop out in the net
Hi James - thanks glad you enjoyed the video - the HD head have low noise settings to reduce wind noise. I have maxed out on my edit suite volume - you should plug your mobile into speakers to improve sound quality
dear Paul it is great to see your obvious love and commitment to our sport but you are possibly the worst netter of fish like have ever seen may I suggest for the Avon get yourself a fixed net with a 6ft handle for bank work keep the collapsible for wadeing otherwise I can see you losing a very large fish because of this .my father caught quite a few fish over 30lbs in the 1950s and 60s and he used no other his motto was you only get one chance. PS LOVE THE VIDEOS.
Dear Gerald, thank you for your kind remarks. I use the best salmon net available to game fisherman in our sport and it has landed plenty of 30 lb plus fish, no problem at all. It retails at about 85 pounds, you can carry its you move from pool to pool. I have yet to loose a fish at the net, and I have landed over 100 large salmon in the 3 years I have owned it. No plans to change. Nice to hear that your father had so much success in the 60s. We have caught more Avon salmon during the last 2 years since the 1980s. We are hoping the Avon will return to its former glory days! May take a 20 year period, it's moving in the right direction.
Regardless of the price of that net, its mesh is pretty bad for fish care with openings that are far too large. You can see the damage this does to your salmon's fins quite clearly at around the 23:26 mark of the video. I appreciate that loose mesh is easier to use in faster rivers and for wading especially because of the lack of drag in the water, but I couldn't do so with a clear conscience knowing that it will result in so many split fins. You can get hold of replacement mesh quite easily and cheaply though, any old coarse carp netting will do. Great video, I was lucky enough to catch a salmon from the river trent about 5 years ago and I can't wait till they've made more of a comeback - here there and everywhere

I’d say that was a perfectly respectable netting job…but yes, a bit less commentary would have gone a long way
