i grew up in Griffith and used to venture this Broadway many times, racing my cars with others. The old Y & W Drive In was a great place to see some great old movies.Last time i was there me and a lady friend went metal detecting the old grounds.About 2 hours to find about 76 cents.....but it was fun and brought back many memories of my youth. Thanks sir..!!
I loved reading your comment about your memories Edward thank you so much. It adds so much to the purpose of why I film these places. I remember myself cruising Broadway going to the YW drive-in and having a good time. We definitely had a good time in history of the city and I’m so glad we have those memories and with good people like yourself it makes it all worth it. Thank you for sharing your memories and I hope to hear more from you soon on other videos, there’s so much more to see.
⭐️😎🫵‼️
I just came across your videos. I remember when those areas were good in the 70s. Great job
Thank you Dave once again I always remember them from the 70s and early 80s. It seems like in the 90s things started getting crazy with the gangs and crack cocaine and it ruined everything. I’m glad you found the channel and I look forward to hearing from you. And I appreciate you letting me know. I did a good job on the videos.
WOW !!! It used to be so crowded and busy. The 70's and the early 80's and the steel company laid off so much many. The convention center was once a popular hotel before. Thanks for sharing !!! And The Holiday Star Theater where Kenny Rogers used to perform in Merrillville.
You are very welcome I’m glad you enjoyed the video it’s very sad I remember when he was there I actually met him but yeah Star Plaza in Merrillville is even gone now
I appreciate you taking the time to leave that comment I hope you are enjoying the channel
The star plaza was the highlight of the midwest. And yes I enjoy your channel !!! Love to you and your family !!!
Live there
Did you pass thru Griffith at all on this trip? If not, I assume it's close? I have family there tho I'm nowhere near Indiana.
Not on this one but I will be covering Griffith sometime soon
@@TheSteelCityStorm I think you were kinda close anyway? I really need to visit that area someday soon... Fall is a nice time to take a long drive.
If I had a nickel for everytime I drove up or down Broadway, well I'd have a lot of nickels!!!😆🤯💖🦋
So many memories. It used to look so nice. Smh
You are fine!
The northeast corner of Broadway and Ridge road at 9.33 had a Savings and Loan building. My late m-in-l worked there for decades until early 70s. Now a mini-mall. A shame.
The intersection at 1:59 , 61st and Broadway has changed a lot since I lived there
Just saw my old address right quick right on the ave 21st and Broadway always was funny how friends and people and general always thought I was lying because it was so far back from the actual street itself it was automatically assumed well I don’t see it I use to crack up and then sometimes mad because after a while it wasn’t funny anymore it became frustrating but yeah my grandmothers house who was from Tennessee passed in 2008 of pneumonia I miss her 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Nicolemc Anderson Thank you for taking the time to leave that comment I’m sorry to hear about your grandmother and I hope to see more comments from you soon
Surprised Gary doesn't have a water problem like Flint Michigan. Sad to see parts of a city in America look like a third world country.
Cool song!
Stan Katic Thank you appreciate that glad you enjoyed it hope to see more comments from you soon
That was really cool. I chased a stray dog through Gary a few years back cause he was running in and out of traffic , I wanted to take the little guy home. He was a bit too fast for me however
WeAreTheRest2050 thanks for your comment and thanks for trying to help that poor little dog.....the world needs more people like you.
WeAreTheRest2050 I live thier
SCOTT ON TAPE thank you for trying to help that poor dog bless you
Aw man, all the places I spent my first 40 years.
I left that place in 1965. I have to say it is very different now. Seems like I recognized the old Sears dept store on 8th and the Palace is not gone yet and the old Gary Hotel bldg stands but that whole stretch of Broadway used to be completely wall to wall stores and shops. A block west of Broadway on 7th or 8th, there used t be another theater the State. I suppose it is gone now? The Palace was always the more popular movie house.
Tell me if I should join.
Absolutely 👈💕😉❤️
City Hall was probably the one place you could flee too if thugs were after you. You'd know the police would be tight around there. Any place else other than a police precinct in Gary you were toast.
I was told by a guy that in the last days of business of Goldblatt's department store that crime was so bad in downtown Gary that the store had a buzzer to let people into the store. Does anyone remember that, or was it an urban legend?
I never heard it 🤔 and mom worked there, then Hammond.
@@tylerrawson21 Probably was an urban legend.
Such a dismal and uninviting place but I did enjoyed the video.
I agree 💯 and I do appreciate you taking the time to leave that comment and glad you enjoyed the ride
Great TOUR Thank you! what memories
Gary looks like Detroit!
Hell naw don’t disrespect Indiana Detroit is disgusting
Merrillville, Beauty !!!😁😊/ Gary, The Beast!!! 👹😔😲!!! Sad
I live in merillville down the street from Gary
Nice video, but sound stopped working during most of your drive/tour.
Thank you I turned it off to enjoy the ride my camera holder was making noises thank you for your like and comment
Sorry about that I restored it I did not know i tried the sound off all the way at the end thank you for pointing this out to me I am pretty new at this lol
Brought back a lot memories of growing in Gary in the 60's and early 70's. Really hope Gary can make a come back, but I doubt, even in a best case scenario I will live long enough to see it. If they could have gotten control of the crime and got the city cleaned up 30 years ago recovery would have been much easier. Suspect a lot of former Gary residents would have considered returning.
I live thier
Samme
Rip
Broadway and 109 at 2 minutes lol
I live in merillville
Ha! Do you really live in Merrillville? Because you don't know how to spell it
Don't you who post these videos of Gary ever think video it on a sunny day to make things a little better and not in a road construction zone? Of course it's going to look horrible.
The only way to help Gary is to do like the near north side of downtown Indianapolis did. Get grants to rebuild sections a little at a time cater to those in Chicagoland to have incentive to save property taxes in Indiana.
However Indiana state legislation wouldn't do it be they would rather have a comfort level close to Indianapolis.
Oh and remember how Trump promised he would have the pageant at the Genesis Center and Gary would be another rebuild city success?
Big fat liar then big fat liar now
