    Great idea!! We just used it to fix our 2015 Tahoe - a common theme in the comments here!
    My only piece of feedback/advice is to be careful as you tighten the zip ties. Go slowly & check the lineup of any remaining plastic clips. We tightened the bottom too much the first time & could not get the top of the backer in place as it was too high. Fortunately zip ties are cheap!

    You rock! This happened to me 6 months after I bought mine brand new 2015. Such a horrible design flaw. I have been using seat covers to hold it together. Now thanks to you I can fix them both without spending the 135 a pop.

      Christopher, thanks for watching, and we're glad we could help you out! It's such a bad design. GM should have tested it a bit more because if they had they would have realized it wasn't a viable option.

    I have a 2015 Chevy Tahoe with the same problem. Local Chevy dealer quoted me almost $300 parts ($180 for the panel itself) to replace it. For the cost of $3 worth of zip ties, I was able to fix it in about 10 minutes. If I ever see you, I owe you a beer! Thanks for the great how-to video!

      Thanks for watching Alex! We're glad we could help you out with fixing your Tahoe. Dave has had this fix in place on his truck for almost 4 months now with no issues. This fix should last you for quite a while if not the duration of you owning your vehicle. We hope you have a great day!

    Thank you so much for this idea!! You’re the man!! I had to put my zip ties through different parts but the idea worked perfectly. There’s nothing like saving 300 bucks and yes GM dealership was going to charge me 300 bucks for the panel and labor cost

      The new back would’ve cost me 240- at the local GM dealer then 145- to install it. I paid 9 dollars for zip ties and it worked great. I’m ecstatic.

    This looks like a good method! A few months ago, I fixed mine by bending my own metal brackets since the original plastic brackets snapped off.

    Nice, but you didn't show pulling the zip ties. So, next time you have to go into the seat back. how you going to do that?

    • @TheBrothersWorkshop
      @TheBrothersWorkshop  2 роки тому +1

      MM Reporter, thanks for watching. You're absolutely correct we skipped over that because it was a matter of just pulling them tight once everything was lined up. It's been 2 years since Dave has done this fix, and he hasn't had to get into the seat back for anything at all. It would, however, be as simple as pulling back on the plastic a bit and getting a scissor in to cut zip tie if you left a little slack.

    Good fix,but the lower and middle points need the frame drilled for the zip tie to attach.

    • @TheBrothersWorkshop
      @TheBrothersWorkshop  2 роки тому +1

      Greg, there is no need, or shouldn't be to drill the frame. We were able to create this fix without doing that. We simply wrapped the zip toe around the frame and it was a secure enough connection. 2 years in and we haven't had to repair it, nor have we had a single issue with this fix.

  • @devincolleton2597

    What size drill bit did you use? Also, how to tighten the zip tie? I'm not tryin to mess this up on my truck

    • @TheBrothersWorkshop
      @TheBrothersWorkshop  2 роки тому +1

      Use a drillbit that corresponds with the size of zip tie choose to use. We show exactly how we pulled the zip tie in the video. I’m sure there’s other ways to do so if you didn’t like that way.

      @TheBrothersWorkshop  2 роки тому +1

      Done, glad you found the video helpful. Dave did this to his truck two years ago and had never had to pull it off since. We guess you can just peel it back and clip off the zip-ties since they are close to the edge, but when. Was the last time you had to get inside your seat back?

      @@TheBrothersWorkshop I have the 2014 Silverado, and one of the most common problems with this truck ( thanks gm ) is that the heated seats are very prone to fail, had to have the dealer fix that issue and now that back panel has fallen off. I’m just gonna assume the heated seats will fail again, which brings the question how easy will it really be to snip those zip ties without damaging the panel itself or leather/cloth seat material.

    • @TheBrothersWorkshop
      @TheBrothersWorkshop  2 роки тому +1

      The heated seats in Sean's truck failed too. It's really pathetic how bad they are. He ended up trading his truck in and went for a GMC without the heated seats.

    More like rigging than repairing...

      Thanks is for watching Train. Vehicles are filled with zip ties holding parts together from the factory. If you don't believe us, just look under your dashboard or seats. Unless you can magically reattach plastic clips that have been snapped off this is the best option outside of purchasing a new rear panel to fix the issue. Rigged this is not, Dave has had this repair in his truk for the past 20,000 miles with no issues. The dealership rigged a repair with velcro and gaff tape when he bought it, which well apart 2 days after he took the truck home. Again, thanks for watching, and have a wonderful day.
