i switched in 2000, but did a clean install. it cannot be overstated how great w2k was. i had prior experience with dos and windows 3.0, wfw 3.11, win9x (no me), winnt3x, nt4... w2k was the very first windows os that did not break, no matter what. it was even so much better than nt4. rock-solid kernel. this started a new era of personal computing for regular users in which they could rely on their software. from then on, when windows did crash, it was either faulty drivers or failing hardware.
