First: Your Stormcasts look awsome! I struggled long thinking about how I want to paint mine and I think about using black-gold-red now as well.
I think having a clear tier beween various warbands is quite nice from a casual standpoint as it makes it easier to introduce people to the game by giving them a strong team and taking a weak one for oneself.

Great video on this, I think the focus on consumer confidence would be incredibly useful to whoever is doing the decision making at GW because its clear its not part of the decision making process atm

Incredible video, very important points and discussion. And didn't feel like a rant at all. But I would like to include one BIG deal breaker into the matter of things: (AS A VETERAN PLAYER) The new decks are not fun. Simple as that. I've read all 6 six decks from top to bottom several times and even built some nemesis decks, thanks to underworldsdb, but still, the new cards are a complete regression, in terms of FUN, and flavor.
As you said, it's a good boardgame, you can get that new box, open up and play with a friend and have a blast, yes. I completely aggree. To new players specially, that never played Underworlds before? Awesome. I hope a lot of people gets this new editiom and have fun.
But to me, it just feels like a big slap in the face. I have 14 universal rivals decks. I have ALMOST THE ENTIRE Beastgrave, Direchasm, Nethermaze and Gnarlwood seasons of warbands, with aaall their 26 (very flavored) faction decks + more than 300 universal cards (more or less) from Season 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 that I STILL USE to deck-build and play casual Relic games with some friends.
I've been there, done that. I still do, I'm still playing, it's my favorite game. But why would I stop using all of that, to play a much, much bare-bones version of it?
Most of the new decks use reprints of the very 1st Season. Lots of them. And the new warscrolls, as much as they tried, don't even come close to the flavour of the Faction decks. The Nemesis format was, I would say, perfect, just before they launched this new edition. You could maintain as much flavour AND cool mechanics with the crazy universal Rivals decks. Everything was so unique.
    Now, it's just so boring..
It's a completely subjective thing, i know, but still, the new 6 decks is last straw for me, they are just not worth it. It's a downgrade.
Let's not even mention that most of my warbands have to rely on those generic warscrolls. Hell, Hrothgorn Manstrappers don't even use their "trap", which is a model that comes in the box that isn't used, and Hrothgorn himself doesn't even have GRAPPLE on his fighter card.
Let's not even mention the cost too, right? Cause I was considering proxing and printing all the new decks and some warscrolls to test them. I wouldn't even have to pay the huge cost of the new box. And still, getting it all for free, I'm still not interested, at all.

This is a well-thought out, editorial piece. As a legacy player who was heavily invested in using faction cards (33%-67% in Nemesis; played Rivals plenty too), I disagree with some of your points particularly how significant the loss of faction flavor occurred. But I like how you presented them in an even keel, reasoned fashion. There are many points I do agree with regarding GW's missteps.
I plan on continuing to play WU’17, I do own everything for it after all. I’m not wholly against playing the occasional game of the new edition (I’m buying just the Plaguebearer warband and its Mastery deck), because the game is still essentially Underworlds.
    Subscribed.
Yes, there is room for a 1.5. To be honest, I think the prior faction-specific rivals decks could be used in the new edition with little change.

This didn't feel like a rant at all. I've been buying a ton of Underworlds miniatures for Mordheim and this at least makes me consider getting a core box so I can play them for their intended game too.

One big issue with the Warbands Of Embergsrd card pack is that GW did not make clear that it was a WarHammer webstore exclusive item to order. All of us in my area were waiting to get it at our local non GW game store. By the time I realized what was going on it was further into the first pre order day and it was already sold out….🙄
So, as someone who had most of the Warbands I’d ever need I had to order two grand alliance boxes to get cards and I’m keeping only one of the eight Warbands. I didn’t even bother with the order alliance box as I only need two out of that box, so those warbands will sit on the shelf until who knows when. Next, I have to go through the process of selling the other seven…(minis only)
Not a fan of having to jump through those extra hoops.
On a positive note, since the change in deck requirements was made and the warband decks going away, my local scene has doubled for the time being. We’ve had a lot of AOS players join who didn’t like the card chasing aspect of the first edition. Also, we’ve seen a return of players who played early first edition who now feel this streamlined 2nd edition is way more enjoyable. So big ups to that.

Oh no! The decks being WH webstore only AND selling out so fast was a real buzz kill. I wonder if we'll see the cards for the individual warbands getting sold on ebay 🤔 Great to hear your local community has had an uptick, fingers crossed GW and the local players are able to keep up the momentum.

@ probably will, but honestly I went and made my own to print on plastic card stock. Both fighter cards and war scrolls. They’re going to look virtually identical. 🤷‍♂️ same process with all the warcry cards. Lol
Regarding the community, players will come and players will go. I think if your group maintains a form of relevance and an active presence within, people will still play. I’ve encountered no one who’s staying with first edition locally. We don’t have any hardcore Storm of Celeste players that are feeling slighted right now. There are four warbands, two of which I just finished painting, that are out in the grand alliance pasture right now and you know what? Fine. I now have physical cards and unique war scrolls for a shed load of others I can use, some of which I barely touched in first edition that now look interesting.
What a time to be alive.

    New OSG. Woot!
Arguably most GW game lines have too many factions to ever really make them good or balanced games.
