How to Build a Pocket Hole Workstation for a Small Shop | DIY Woodworking Shop Project

- This shop project will keep all of your pocket hole materials and hardware all in one place. No need to hunt around for the drill bits, screws, or adjustment tools. Just take this off the wall, clamp it down, and start drilling. There are a bunch of different versions out there, this version will allow you to customize the size based on the storage containers that you choose.

So a few people have asked me what the t-track is for. I wanted the option of having repeatable stops for precise placement of pocket holes.
i'd love to see track stops used in a video. i have some medical limitations, but want to return to woodworking. So i have been interested in how t-tracks & accessories may make things easier. Great station. i loved your method for insuring sides are level with jig. thanks,-Lisa

John Wisniewski I needed the workstation to build the workstation. It could be considered one of life’s greatest conundrums.
That conundrum is the basis of the entire workshop I'm creating.
Could really do with all the space and the toolage to build the tools and creating space with. It will happen but its always an arse about face kinda system eh.

Bought your plans and made mine. Used the Kreg jig for pocket holes on inside of the three vertical pieces to secure them to base. Made it very easy to assemble. Didn't use the track, but very simple and straightforward design. Thanks!

I forgot to get a tray however so I need to build one that fits.
I really love this design. I kinda threw mine together but I have the T-track now. I hadn't thought to put the container of screws with it though. Thanks!

I recently built this, but did not use any T-tracks. I’m probably going to make another, but will make some modifications to fit my use. I’ve already used this jig and I love it.

Thanks for the idea, now I can build a work station to replace the one I made for my K4 THREE DAYS AGO. Should be nice to have a storage spot for hardware though.

That's a great looking piece of kit. I especially like the track for repeated holes at a set measurement. My two cents worth, I think I would keep the 'bits and screws' container separately so I could make the whole jig lower to the bench, that's a design suggestion that others may consider, not really criticism. Great job

I looked through many designs and liked yours the best. Gave me just the right idea to build my own. However, I did make 1 major change just to benefit my own taste. Instead of making an open section to insert a parts holder, I decided to create a drawer with sections for individual screw sections and assorted other parts for the jig, on soft-close drawer guides. I then cut a piece of plexiglass and attached it with small hinges and magnetic catch to secure all items in place. Then just added a simple catch to hold the drawer closed while transporting. I know, it was a little overkill when a parts box would do the same thing, but I was having fun doing the build and didn't want to stop. I'll post some pics soon.
P.S. Where did you get the small notched plastic glue spreader? I have looked everywhere for something like those that I can buy in bulk without breaking the bank for such a minimal tool.

The Massca M2 jig would be better because it's aluminum and has dust collection port. Nice station. You could probably sell the plans to Kreg.

Like the build. Very nicely done. Wondering if you use the T-track very often and if so in what applications. Stop block maybe? Is there anything you would change of doing it over again?
Doug Kepley thank you very much! I tend to use the stop blocks when doing smaller projects like making cross braces for cabinets. I might make it out of 1/2” ply instead of 3/4” just to keep the weight down a bit, although the extra weight does help with keeping it in place even without clamping it down
Nice. Can you demonstrate using the tracks? I don't understand how they could be used for stops.

I’ve seen several of these pocket hole workstations. Yours gave me some ideas that I didn’t see in any others. Making a space below for the case holding the screws and bits is great. Most others I’ve seen have drawers instead. I’m wondering why you put in the t-track. What are you planning to use it for? Thanks.

Very nice build. How come you didn't use your kreg jig to make the jig?
John because I needed the jig to make the workstation, but I didn’t have the workstation done to built itself?!? It’s a slippery slope. It’s actually because the size of the workstation is relatively small and there wasn’t a ton of room to get the pocket holes screws in the inside.

@@TwoBitWoodworks yes i had the same question in mind, then i realized you'd be able to use pocket holes on half & then not enough space for driver( if you wanted them hidden on inside). Would have been weird to do some joints w/pocket holes & others not... i love Kreg builds but have seen woodworkers "pocket hole" themselves into a too tight corner & then have to change strategy. Been checking out your other videos. Good stuff. I'll subscribe because I'd like to see more. Thanks, Lisa
I like it but why didn't you use pocket holes?
Mostly because I was using the the jig to mock everything up. Also because the space was limited and I wouldn’t be able to get to the screw holes with the drill.

Not right now I don’t. I think it would be easily adapted to fit the K5.
why didn't you use the Kreg jig to assemble the the base? what are thee tracks used for?
jim james since I was going back and forth measuring the placement of the Kreg Jig it would of drove me nuts between using the jig and then removing it for placement. So I just used regular screws. The tracks are used for accurate repeatable stops. I’ll be making a video on making and using custom stops.

Used your cut list and it appears part E, 18.5" x 7" should actually be 18.5" x 7.75". Am I missing something?

Robert Foster yeah I’m catching a lot of heat for not using pocket holes. By the time I got around to assembly I was using the pocket hole system to keep everything aligned in place.

Hosebee Lion I was using the jig for placement and alignment so it was easier to just use regular screws to build it. And I would not have been able to use it on the tight spaces on the inside.

Larry Jacobs I needed the pocket gold workstation to build the pocket hole workstation. 😆
It's discouraging when woodworking YT'rs take credit for someone else's intellectual idea, pass it off as their own and, worse still, sell it for profit. This workstation was created by Woodsmith and shown in Season 12 of Woodsmith Shop. Woodsmith presented a YT video of their workstation 5 months prior to your video. Their plans are free to everyone. Yes, you made minor changes - principally, a solid back to the storage compartment, and you plowed out a recess in the case to level the Kreg jig to the work surface. Woodsmith's design is superior in this latter respect as they added spacers to level the jig resulting in a full 3/4" of wood to screw the jig vs yours with ~3/8" (best guess) depending on how deep your recess. This is Woodsmith's design, and it should have been credited as such. Or, is it unreasonable to expect intellectual honesty where monetization is involved? Particularly when the plan from the original maker is free.
