Many thanks, brought back some sad and happy memories of my time there. I was there at the same time only the 'other side' of the runway in the infantry camp with the Irish Guards.

I have been scanning about 600 slides of my Father's. And 'Radfan' was marked on one of the boxes. Some great pictures of an air drop and Bristol Belvederes taxiing and similar air shots to the ones in your video. Interesting how they store grain on the roofs. Great shots and history. Someone should get all the guys commenting and make a documentary. I loved Aden as a kid.

Thank you, I emailed the link to a friend who also served there with me who is now in Austrailia and he was over the moon. We both share a soft spot for the Beverley, I had the privilege of sitting in the co-pilot's seat on at flight to Kenya, he only got the chance years later in one at a museum in Southend. We still remember that time every year at the NMA, key in Aden Irish Guards for my efforts.

Thanks for leaving this here John. I was with 78 Sqdn at the time and remember flying up to Habilayn several times - Remember the 'shoot-outs' at 18.00? 'Nemo non Patartus'

The people regretted the British lefted Aden , Since then, We only Knew Wars Wars Wars, Devastation, Bloods,
I was born after the U.K left Aden 1968, I saw what they did to South Arabia, and what happening now,
but I am sure they should not listen to Nasser of Egypt.
God bless You, God bless the U.K.

Frankly speaking I hated what the British Government did to Aden. After occupying it for 128 years, they had to hand it over to the gangsters and the Soviet Union to destroy it, and so on. What we are suffering from until now in Aden is because of the British Government, If they had a good intention towards Aden, they would've secured it well, they were capable of that and Mad Mitch proved it in the last battle and re-entry of Aden and then given it back to it's people instead.
      Proud to be an Adani...

Always lovely to see pictures of Aden which my home 1966-67, with my late father serving proudy in the RAF.
Despite everything I still believe the Britsh were a welcome and stablising presence in this politically divided region and did lots of good for European and Arab alike, many did not want us to leave.
I was at school there and took part in a traditional 'gangshow' directed by one of the officers wives and nearly got blown up by a sabotaged aeroplane at Khormaksar.
    Vivid and happy memories

John French you can say that about any place the British have setup a settlement, personally I was proud to serve there even though we sadly lost many colleagues😕☹️

The crashed Sioux helicopter recovery (from2:12 onwards) was one of mine. I was the OC of 45 Commando Air Troop with three Sioux helicopters. That one XT219 was a problem aircraft and had just been repaired - I test flew it and on the following morning 26 Feb 67 I flew it for an hour before handing it over to one of my other pilots so I could go for breakfast. Just a few minutes later I heard over the Unit radio that it had crashed. Both pilot and passenger were unhurt but were very lucky as it was on the edge of a large drop.

Thanks for the comments , bit at a loss with the term shoot outs, assume you flew up in the Twin pins or a Pembroke have memory of an engine start on a twin pin with a Sgt Ford using a rope around the prop and using a Land Rover to start it , they had run out of start cartridges.p

I was crewman on twinpins 65/67 and always carried a canvas strop for starting when we ran out of cartridges, which we did on more than one occasion, on one occasion,at Monks Field, I think, I used an army ambulance to start a port engine.

Ah remember the Scramble that ensued with the CO RCT asking to borrow my Olympus Pen Camera, the resulting shots Really showed the hairy moments and the professional way it was recovered, still have some of them in my files somewhere, they also where sent back for training purposes I believe

Excellent footage. On the Royal Engineers plaque, no mention of 521 Specialist Team RE ( Well Drillers). We were first on the scene in 64/65 drilling wells along the proposed route of the Dhala road. AI Anad, AI lMilah, Habilayn, Dhala.

When I was there, about 1800 each evening we'd have a 'live firing' into the scrub in the direction of the border. Occasionally, someone had the temerity to reply?. No I was on 78 Sqdn Wessex. I think the Twin-pins were operated by 21 Sqdn then? I did manage to go back to Yemen (Khormaksar) in early seventies and the place was a mess!!
