I am very happy to get to know you, I am Walid from southern Yemen, the city of Al-Habileen, specifically, my parents and grandparents told us a lot about you. You were really kind, but the war ended everything, but we have love and gratitude to you no matter what happens.
RAF Habilayn in the Yemen. Watching these great compilations brings back bitter-sweat memories of my time in Aden. The mountains around Habilayn were visited once by the novelist, H Rider Haggard and were said to be his inspiration for 'King Solomon's Mines' and 'Alan Quartermain' en-route to South Africa. He wrote these books and others when he returned to England in 1862...
Blimey! What a memory jerker. Was with 1 WG in Habilayn in '66, flew with Greville Edgecombe on a few occasions directing the mortars. Remember well the day Robin Grist (later to become DAAC) recovered to the strip with a tail-rotor failure on his Sioux.
@DarkInc1Design Thanks for your comments there is upgraded version of this same content just a few more pictures (RAF HABILAYN PART 2 ) to see those Hercules landing by sweeping within the mountain range was spectacular and the Crews were always nice to talk to
Thank you for your Comment very interesting I suspect that Habilayn had not changed much (except for our presence) since 1862, my flights over the area taking pictures was like looking at villages 100,s of years gone by.
Hello dear, it is very interesting to see all this memories from long time ago. It was not really klear what is going on. Actually till this day still a lot of problems over thier. I'm from Radfan living in the EU right now. I would like to have contact with you guys who was there at that time. We can remember that times together and share some vedios and photos from radfan from now and the past. Kind of regards
I served in Aden 66-67 with the 13 Flight Army Air Corps and was stationed at Habilayn several times - and worked on Scout helicopters under Major Crouch (Tank Corps) - imagine my surprise when I came across a photo of him with his Scout. Our Flight sign was the black cat which was planted on many an RAF Wessex !! Good times. I believe Major Crouch won the DFC for his rescue of troops whilst under enemy fire. My Flight WRO was named Scott-Laws.
we must I have met, I use to get quite a few flights with 13flt, was even sent down to Aden to source a Black Cat (toy) for a leaving present for Major Crouch by BASO Doug Mortar. Major Crouch was such a good officer, I have a picture of one of your armours which you would probably recognize just send me your email to jftbeard@gmail.com. I was one of the firemen (I ran the teabar). most of the pictures on the video were taken from a Scout
I was sent down to Khormaksar to buy a leaving present for Major Crouch great guy always allow me flights on the Scouts (hence my pics) I was RAF fire crew at the same time as you bet you used the tea bar run by us👨👨👦👦😎
