This was truly a scary incident for both of you. Sadly, there are sketchy people everywhere. So glad that you are both safe. Never let your guards down, having said that, the situation put you at a terrible disadvantage. Just grateful that the police were at the right place at the right time as I shiver to think what could have happened. That happened to me in Cebu where i was from in 2008 with my Wife which was my GF then.i almost choked he cab driver cause he did the same.he got scared these arethe bad apples in my culture good thing i speak cebuano.i was already to do anything to defendmy wife and my life cause the taxi driver went off a diiferent route 3 kilometers off.God protects us who believes in him..God bless youguys ingat kayo alays specially you are pregnant..Viva Police Manila..amping mo pirmi.

i took a taxi.. years ago.. in Manila taxi driver drove else where.. he drove to an area... far from my direction to a squatters area. he ignored me too.. to d him.. wrong way.. he stopped and called out names of men.. !!!! no one came.. and I said.. go. now.. I am paying the meter.. !,,, no grab then.. be careful always... opportunists and criminals out there. heard some expats getting kidnapped for money.. bless you and baby 🙏🙏👍👍 REPORT THE DRIVER.. Make a blotter report to a nearest Police Station,so that the proper authority can fully investigate it and give you enough justice for the aggrieve being done and can file a proper complain so that person will be caught and be given punishment
I always tell my kidz to send thru text the plate number immediately before riding a taxi or grab. Now, its better to take a picture of the taxi and driver before riding and send it immediately thru messenger to relatives for better safety precautions. Take care and always be safe. I experienced this way back 2009 when we went to Manila for board exam review. On the way to our apartment, the taxi driver made a turn and drove along a squatter's area. The place was dark with no electricity and there was drum beside the road where a fire is burning. There were 4 of us, all girls, college graduates from the province. We were so nervous, but I quickly acted and took out my phone. I was in the front seat and pretended to call my brother who was a policeman. I loudly "asked" him if he's still in Camp Crame. I also injected a bit of bisaya to intimidate the driver. Thankfully, we got back to the main street with a lot more people, so we asked the driver to stop, took out our luggages, and pulled them along the road no matter how heavy they were. Good thing we were just 2 blocks away from the apartment. Bad people are everywhere, so it's good that you are aware of your surroundings. Keep safe❤
No, the grab driver didn't want to charge you extra, he wanted to kidnap you both for ransome. Kidnapping is becoming a popular thing for taxis/grab to do to make money in the Philippines. Surprised that this started in BGC since that's typically safe but the grab driver probably thought you both were rich since you were well dressed and at the Shangri La resort, one of the most expensive in the Philippines. It's good the police were there quickly and found you--that's one good thing I've heard about BGC is they have a lot of police presence. Hopefully justice will be served and that grab driver will end up fired from grab and also end up in prison for attempted kidnapping.

Jonathan always carries self defense and I even have a new window breaker "device". Crazy it exactly happened when these things were not with us. Shangri-la security is tight like an airport scanning so we didn't bring them this one time. Of course it's the time when something happened. 🙈

don't go for grab taxi if your wearing fancy attire not to say all cab drivers are like that, but there will be opportunist that will either scam you for extra fare or mug with an accomplice driving you to shaddy a location. go for grab car instead its cheaper for short distances, you can also share your grab ride route details to messaging apps to a friend so they are aware and can track your whereabouts
Get the taxi number or company its usually in the door or close to the window if you cant get the plate number. If possible the id of the driver if its visible or can be done. Remember the face but also the features like tatoo, earings, birthmark and so on. Report it and call the police.

You have to report it to the Grab Office, they have a record on a Computer for the point of destination from where they picked you up going to your place of address so that the Company will terminate that kind of person and not to happen again to others. You must go to the police station then report the situation so they would know the incident...important thing you gave them the kind of vehicle and the plate no. Did you get a picture of the driver while vlogging?
It happened to the vloggers MAKING IT HAPPEN. The stupid taxi driver probably has something in mind. He is on purposely taking you to the highway, or somewhere else, or taking you to a longer way to pay more. He probably thinks you're rich by the look of your outfit. Shame on him. You should have taken his ID picture on the vehicle to report the driver to the police and call the TV station to tell them the incident and to get him fired of his job. He deserves it. That kind of taxi driver should not operate a public service vehicle. You should have put him in the vlog for evidence.
Be careful next time. Before you get in the car, take picture of the PLATE NUMBER. What you've got was an Illegal Grab Service because the time that book your trip, the amount is already stipulated on the APP. If would happened the same next time, secretly took the picture of the Driver.
the baby saved you because when you said to driver that you are pregnant he got panicked and instead leave you there, that driver must be reported, always open your camera when something unusual happening, sometimes its better to say to driver to slow down on driving because you are pregnant so that they will be warned.
I hope you pursue filing the complaint, otherwise he will go scott free and victimize other helpless individuals. He is a scourge to society. He should be jailed for what he did!
There's a lot of psychopaths and sociopaths in the big cities,Manila is a not safe city. Follow your instincts and be more cautious next time. If it doesn't feel right dont do it. Most people who study self defense are mostly aware of dangers. You dont have to be a paranoid but just be careful always.
Did you guys get a police report? I'm sure Grab has liability insurance for their drivers. You should demand a 100% refund, you have a police report to back it up. Trust me, no companies won't wanna be in that predicament getting sued. It's not about the money, it's your emotional and personal safety that is being disrespected and violated. Don't let them get away with it, pursue your case so that in the future this won't happen to anyone else.

It happened to the vloggers MAKING IT HAPPEN. The stupid taxi driver probably has something in mind. He is on purposely taking you to the highway, or somewhere else, or taking you to a longer way to pay more. He probably thinks you're rich by the look of your outfit. Shame on him. You should have taken his ID picture on the vehicle to report the driver to the police and call the TV station to tell them the incident and to get him fired of his job. He deserves it. That kind of taxi driver should not operate a public service vehicle. You should have put him in the vlog for evidence.
