I'd highly recommend scraping the glue off as you did, I opted not to and I'll have to go and redo. The psp won't seat properly if the lens is misaligned
Thanks for the tutorial! I was dreading using glue at all, but honestly that was the easy part, making sure there were no annoying particles between the screen and lens was the worst. I had to even do the good ol' turn the hot water on in the shower trick and awkwardly sit on the toilet constantly wiping away each individual spec of dust or hair... But it looks pretty good and there's only one super minor (yet crazy annoying) spec on the screen, but I can't sit there forever!
Great tutorial, I'll be replacing my stock plastic lens since it's scratched to hell and has some hazy rainbow pigment on it when viewed at a certain angle lol.
I was going to comment what's the point when you can buy a new aftermarket faceplate that comes with a new lens already built in. Then I got this new face plate and, even though it had a fresh sticker protecting both sides, it was well scratched up: seems it was manufactured badly. What's more the shell fit badly, so that some of the buttons weren't sticking out sufficiently. Thanks for the video!
The fitment and color match of the OEM Sony frame are the main reasons to install just a new lens. The vast majority of generic faceplates just aren’t very good for quality
so I assume this is NOT for 1000 model ? I never seen other tutorial with PSP 1000 model.. which I want to do with IPS LCD mod. or should I buy a separate face plate(I don't care about OEM) to accommodate a glass lens for PSP 1000 ??
For 1000s, you can only do certain colors of OEM (silver, gold, blue, and camo). If you want black, white, or pink, then you’ll have to buy a generic faceplate and then do the glass lens install.
@@Doov007 yeah you can install it on a street. There’s just more of a gap around the lens once installed, so try to keep the glue closer to the outer edge so it’s less visible
@@blakeblundell9001 another quick question, is there a difference between the lens for 1000 and 2000/3000, I bought a 1000 front plate and plan on replacing the lens with glass, but the glass I bought is titled for 2000/3000, still I saw people in the review saying that it still works for 1000 models
Replacing the lens on a new generic 1000 faceplate isn’t something that I’ve done, since removing the lens off of one is much more of a hassle. The only OEM 1000 faceplates that came with a removable lens were silver, gold, blue, and camo. A glass lens would fix in one of those 1000 colors, as well as any 2000/3000/E1000 faceplates

great video, Blake, one question, is the glass lens prone to crack easily compared to the plastic one? my tempered glass phone protectors always cracked easily with a drop or something. wondering how strong or fragile this glass lens is, I mean during daily usage? thanks
They will be more durable than a plastic one. The plastic won’t really crack apart from along the edges and it more flexible, so if it does take an impact then the screen can still get cracked. I haven’t had a glass one get cracked apart from a few having a corner crack off during installation. I’ve shipped out a lot of them with a glass lens installed and have yet to hear from someone that had their system arrive with a shattered lens. So they are usps durable lol
@Blake Blundell Hi, Blake, I have a related question regarding screen replacement or front plate replacement, how do you wipe and clean the screen and lens? I mean for both the internal side of the lens and digital LCD screen, I found there is some kind of electrostatic effect after you remove the plastic film from the lens so it tries to attach dust, and can't even be blown off, I prefer not to use isopropyl and microfiber wipe because I found it will leave marks or tiny residues no matter how hard i tried to remove them, do you have any recommendation yourself? many thanks.
For new plastic lenses, they can be horrible for leaving marks from where the film was removed. They can be wiped off with a cleaning spray (I use armor-all multipurpose and windex) and a micro fiber, but typically it will end up looking more smeared or scratched if you do too big of an area. Glass lenses are super easy and look perfect when you peel off the plastic, and aren’t all static so dust isn’t as bad. For dust on the lcd screen or dust that has collected on the faceplate lens when the glue is hardening, I will use canned air to get off what I can (nudging the dust with the tip can help with some more stuck on piece). A little windex and a micro fiber is best for cleaning off any smudges or excess glue that got on the viewing area’s of the glass lens. Windex or a different cleaner can be used on the lcd screen to get rid of most of the really stuck on debris, but some things are little indents in the lcd that can’t be removed
@@blakeblundell9001 A strip of cellophane tape (preferably with a very weak adhesive) can also be useful for picking up dust from lenses and lens protectors. Requires a steady hand and a light touch though, to avoid leaving glue (any visible glue, anyway) from the tape on the glass. Just gently stab it at the dust so that it will hopefully grab the dust without sticking to the glass; don't actually press it down onto the glass.
They are about the same. The plastic on a new lens will usually have some spots/marks are removing the films, which can be annoying and wiping them off can leave marks or scratches if not done right. Glass is super easy and has no marks to remove at all. I would only recommend doing the swap if your current lens has a bunch of scratches that bother you.
@blakeblundell9001 Hi! Do you recommend to apply a screen protector on a glass lens? Will it help it to last longer in good shape by replacing the screen protector when it gets old and damaged? Or is this pointless?
Yes, but how about a sun reflection, glare, you know? If apply antiglare screen protector, it will be much better, especially if you play a lot outdoor
I recently created a website for PSP parts, systems, and custom builds:
everythingpsp.com/
I totally recommend this upgrade. Looks so much better than plastic.
I'd highly recommend scraping the glue off as you did, I opted not to and I'll have to go and redo. The psp won't seat properly if the lens is misaligned
It's also important to mention you shouldn't apply a lot of pressure because the glass lens can break somewhat easily
I would recommend not applying pressure at all. this glass lenses crack with anything.

How to know which is front and back?
The front is the side where the edges are thinner to make it more flush when set in the faceplate frame
