So if the Kings don't buy him out and do it next year he'll be a 4.5 million dollar cap hit until 2045 on an eighth year deal. But it's only to 2035 if they do it now and only at 2 million. Wait a year and find out, could cost the Kings a lot in the future. I would give him another year and if a good trade offer comes along in the meantime (which it won't) I would try to get rid of him. He has really only had one poor season with the kings where he didn’t get many minutes per night and his role wasn’t all that easy to see. With the caps he will get the minutes, he will get a definitive role. He may get 50 points and have a great season. If his +/- is good, he is defensively reliable and is able to contribute when the team needs a goal late. He didn’t want to be in Columbus or Winnipeg, yet put up good numbers not being with a big league team. Finally with the caps the plate is set for Dubois to thrive. If he wants it and he can get it. Being an NHL star. The money is banked. Now we will see. It’s all up to him. If he comes to play every night, he will succeed.
