I like the version with the warm glow of the light on the right. Adds some warm balance and is moodier and visually appealing to me. Also informs the viewer of the source of the warm light on the snow that's still visible in your square crop. Beautiful shot. Love the mood.
The square crop, definitely! It's not that the street light was ugly, but it was an unnecessary distraction, as the main attraction is clearly the illuminated stained glass window.
Love the colours as a whole the blue and orange are wonderful x the blue on its on just makes the eyes draw to the church window x the orange added makes you look at the whole composition x love your videos for the learning aspect but also so funny x keep up the wonderful work x
Square crop. It focused my attention and the less busy colour palette i(n its slightly more monochromatic glory) was akin to the gentle first stroke of our sun’s rays on an otherwise bitterly cold windswept morning. Glorious shiz as always old sauce. Keep the content coming!
Your experience of returning to the rock with ice and not having the ice (or probably the same light) reminds me of a "lesson" I learned a while ago... Whenever you see a scene that strikes you as interesting enough to photograph, don't pass up that opportunity with the thought of returning later... The scene caught your attention for a reason--photograph it...and if when returning later things are better, great, but sometimes (as was the case here) it's not, and sometimes you don't return at all because your journey takes you somewhere else... Bird in the hand...
I really liked the first crop of the church. I felt the light gave it a little more life and brought some added warmth to the scene. Me personally i feel it's print worthy.
I like the original compisition with the street lamp included better than the square crop. I like the tonal contrast of teh blue and orange and to me it feels more balanced that the square crop.
Do we have a new Grumpton? I loved the wide angle shot of the church, the street lights gave it warmth and ambiance. Drone footage of the arch rock and sand patterns was amazing.
After seeing it with the street light it looked like something was missing without it in the crop. It may be seen as distracting but it also made my eye rove around more.
Loved some of that drone footage Gavin, the shots of the sand from above are awesome, heading down Fundy Park direction tomorrow, was there twice last week, it's amazing how different it can be on every visit., Thanks for sharing.
Great video, as usual Gavin. I like the square crop of the church-the orange light wasn’t horrible but less distracting without it. So glad that you ended up with a shot of the ice and crenellations on the beach!!! I was yelling “stop you fool” while watching. 🤣🤣 alas, we’ve all been there haven’t we??
WITH the orange street light...two reasons...orange and blue are great colors together, and also the light illuminates the tree, with is beautiful. Ok, a third reason... there is an orange color cast on the snow and without including the tree/light, the color cast doesn't fit with the rest of the scene.
Lesson I learned years ago, is that I see a potential shot, take it right then and there before moving on. There was a time I was at the Seattle waterfront and I saw a nice colored reflection. I debated whether to take the shot and risk missing my bus. I quickly took a few shots and hooft it to catch up on time. I showed my co-workers my shots and many of them said the reflection was my best out of all. I worked my butt off for the other shots yet my spur of the moment last chance shot came out the best. Who knew? So now if I see something and I'm not 100% onboard, I take it anyway. I can always delete the image at no cost. Not taking the photo is the cost...
I prefer the square crop - mainly due to the apparent colour temp difference between the street light and the church windows. If they matched it would be perfect!
Church shot WITH the street lamp for me Gavin. I might also have warmed the lighting inside the church to match the street lamp - may have brought a nice balance.
Another great video. I live on the East coast of Scotland so the light and beaches look very similar, particularly around my home town of Arbroath where it’s all sandstone. And yes, I’ve seen the surface sea water freeze on the beach before. Pretty skitey as we say
Your video reminded me of a Yorkshire-ism that many won't be aware of - for this I'll need to nip up to Filey for a "lemon-top" ice cream - sod the 99! Remember them Gavin? Oooooo YES! I prefer the crop without the light as the orange doesn't look right in the blue hour with the rest of the scene - only my humble opinion! Keep the videos coming lad!
Prefer the square crop w/o the street light. Why? My eye went straight to the street light when the stars of the photo (in my opinion) are the church and the tree that framed the church. Beautiful pic with the light from the church illuminating the snow and tombstones... very nice!
First church photo only because the second doesn’t have enough balance for the big tree in front, but love the coolness of the second. You now need to put a light in your church tower! The ‘miniature’ scene looked very cool. OMG another Delica!?! 🤦🏻♂️😎📸
Of the church images, I much prefer the square crop. That orange light is really bright and so close to the edge of the frame, it takes the eye away from the church. Plus I really like how that tree frames the church. Chris is gonna love that lens. I bought one myself a few months ago. I rarely shoot wider than 24mm, but that lens makes me look for excuses to use it.
My opinion it's the wider for the church, it does balance , it's more for the warm light on the snow covered tree. The drone flights were nice, one stood out. I Absolutely , loved the sweeping left to right showing both of you with the cliff. I love "Miniature Mountain", I had the same thought right before before you mentioned it. Oh and your drone image of the sand causing the Pareidolia , pretty cool. It's when your mind will see something in a pattern.
Loved your photo's especially the church i think it looked lovely with the street light on...but that is just my opinion.. Thought your mate was going to hand you a twirl but hey there you go..🤣🤣🤣
One of the problems with a photo backpack is that while they are the best tool to get stuff from point A to point B, I've found them to be just miserable to work out of. I have a decent Lowepro backpack and I can carry gear easily with it. But I find that I turn down photo opportunities like you did because I know that if I unpack HERE, for THIS shot, then I'll have to pack everything up, in order to move on. It becomes my hope then that a better shot - one worth stopping for - is right around the corner. And like you I miss shots. I find that if distances aren't very great I'm better off with a shoulder bag. Gravity is my friend then, rather than a foe, as it keeps the lenses in the bag. Then I'm much more likely to stop and take the picture. Obviously I have to carry less gear but that just means a little more planning.
Good fun as always! I think I prefer the square church image. The warm colors in the church were overpowered by the ones to the right in the 3:2 to my eye, seems like two subjects maybe? Happy snacking!
Like both of the church shots, but the orange light is a bit strong. So square crop for me. You and Chris make a good pair - love the interaction. Grumpton 2.0 but with a style all its own. Of course, no one will ever replace the original...
The fire and ice shot looked like a drone view of the surface of another planet! It definitely messed with one's sense of size/proportion. I think the church shot was better as a square. I found the orange light on the right to be very distracting.
Square crop, for sure. :) The orange light at the far right is kind of nice (complementary colors) but in the end is a distraction for me; better without. Somehow, cropping in gives a greater sense of solitude and peacefulness, too. (Besides, I love a square crop!)
Hark at you with your Crenellations! I even had to Google it! 🤣🤣I think the Ice Cream van's a brilliant idea by the way. If the photography turns out to be a failure, maybe you could make a killing that way?! 😁😁😉😉
I immediately thought I would have liked for that street lamp to not have been there and then you did the square crop to remove it. The dilemma for me is that I like the aspect ratio of the original shot better but I also want the lamp to not be there. Basically, I would have wanted the composition to be what wasn't possible.
My 6 eggs worth.. with the tree and orange glow of street lamp, I think in the shown aspect ratio, which I'd always prefer over a square, the tree and lamp balance out the image nicely, and adds interest
I like the orange and blue contrast of the street lamp, however the street lamp overpowers the church which is a lot more quieter a subject. Square crop is my vote.
I prefer the pre-crop version. Although, I may have added a bit of a masking filter to the orange light of the lamp just to make it less ... dunno ... there. Love your vids. I just found your channel yesterday and love the chatty banter. One day I may show up at one of your workshops.
I had AAA subscription and free towing up-to 10 miles. Once my car broke 11 miles away from my home and I payed $60 for towing since distance exceeded 10 miles!
Awesome drone work! I was hoping you would listen to everyone screaming at you to get your camera out for those time sensitive abstract shots.😂 The chapel scene is very interesting! I feel like it could be worked for different comps quite a bit over time.
The “mountain” shot is very cool. If it hadn’t been set it up, you couldn’t tell if it was taken 12 inches or 12 miles above. I was totally aligned with that you we’re going for
I liked the lamp in because it gives the warm tones to the photo. I also think that even with it gone the light is still casted and looks weird without it on the rocks to the right of the photo in the square crop. But i would also be curious to see how it would change in the square crop if you just cooled those warm tones to the right down in photo shop with a mask.

Very nice footage and pictures within the blue hour. Nice Winter landsape. Greets Stefan

Thank God!! The innuendos and depraved humor are back. Oh, how I missed them. Always enjoy a good peanut buttter story.
Chris is nicking Tom's van build and you're nicking his square crops.
The street lamp does add a warm element which actually works wonder in the church shot.
Square crop. I felt the streetlight drawing my attention, taking away from the church.

Loved the square form because it made the oranges almost appear like a midnight purple which went really well with the blues in the scene.
I like the original compisition with the street lamp included better than the square crop. I like the tonal contrast of teh blue and orange and to me it feels more balanced that the square crop.
I love the square crop of the church. Takes away the distraction of the orange light. Keeps the cool blue hour vibe.
I’m blown away these images !!!!!! Well done!!!!!
I love those shots whose distance/scale is indiscernible. Fun mind game, and beautiful as well!
Do we have a new Grumpton?
I loved the wide angle shot of the church, the street lights gave it warmth and ambiance.
Drone footage of the arch rock and sand patterns was amazing.
There can only be one Grumpton and he can never be replaced. I think we all should come with a title for Chris though.
@@westvirginianlivin9871 There's only one Grumpacious.
I was yelling at the tv…”DON’T LEAVE THAT ROCK!!!” The blues and orangey reds!!

I think I liked the square crop better because that orange light pulls my eye away from the church.

Really great video! Loved all the photos! Those cliffs turned out really fantastic! 👍
I like the square crop of the church the best, and I loved the ice on the red stone.
Great video Gavin. Love the red of the snowy cliffs.
This was awesome, from start to finish.. that top down looked as you said like a drone and mountain for sure

Both church shots work well. I'd have been tempted to warm up the church lights in the street light shot. Great shots - keep up the daftness!
#2, your subject is the church, and the square crop brings you into the subject. Well done!!!
I prefer the square crop - mainly due to the apparent colour temp difference between the street light and the church windows. If they matched it would be perfect!
I look forward every week to seeing your videos and photos. Ignore the trolls.
Church shot WITH the street lamp for me Gavin. I might also have warmed the lighting inside the church to match the street lamp - may have brought a nice balance.
First shot! I like the difference in color and rule of thirds.

Congratulations. I didn't think it possible to gross out Gavin. FWIW, I like the streetlight in the photo. And I like the miniature seascape.
Yep the square crop looks good! but I would have taken out the house lights on the right.
I liked the Square shot, it sets the mood with no distractions simple and warm I love it.
