- Baker's reviews and compares the Optrel Panoramaxx to other popular welding helmets on the market. The panorama view - makes the viewing range like no other and without the added weight. Autopilot feature sets this helmet apart as well as world record light state at 2.5. Part 2 of our welding helmet review of "true color" technology helmets on the market. Part 1 we reviewed Miller, Speedglas, Lincoln and ESAB. Link below:

Great giving the technical data and your take on it. Absolutely gonna watcvh more! Great video!
Thanks for watching!
Great video... however some of the information you gave is not correct and you missed some major points, the grind mode is 2.5 not 5, the nose pad comes in the box with the charger, and it states that the first time you setup the helmet you should adjust so that it doesn’t touch your nose, the battery actually charges off the arc or the light in the room and is the worlds first rechargeable helmet, I weld for 2 hours a day and have never had to charge this helmet since the first time I used it (6 months now) it also has the twilight function which is like a slope out at the end of the weld (really helps with eye strain) plus it’s also designed for overhead welding so the outer lens can not collect splatter like the Speedglas and Miller, and one one more thing it’s 6x bigger viewing area than a standard adf, 20% bigger than the XXI from Speedglas...
Worlds widest field of vision
Worlds first shade 2.5
Worlds first Autopilot shade adjustment
Worlds first twilight mode
Worlds first rechargeable helmet
Massive amount of technology for practically the same price as a Speedglas 👍
Hi Steve! Thank you for watching and the added info! Yes the charge is great on the helmet it is solar charged but has the charger charging in the event it was stored in a dark place. On the nose piece yes we just did not put it in the demo helmet because multiple people were using it. It is included and helps quite a bit since then we put it in! Good point on adjusting before putting it on we did not do that haha
Great video, but Steve is totally right the twilight function is a part I wish you had at least touched on. I'm always looking at the new hood market and that function is a nice and kind of fun new thing optrel brings to the market.
@@kurse333 yes we really like that feature. We have another Optrel video coming soon on the new Crystal 2.0 we will try to go into a little more detail on that one. Thanks for watching!
Just bought one and I love it. The main criterion that I used to make my decision between the Optrel and the other hoods with similar features - NOT MADE IN CHINA.
How do you know when it’s charged? I’m having trouble figuring it out?
@@SulfuricDrop3 When the helmet is connected to a charging source with the micro-USB cable, there is a status light that comes on. When the light is orange, the helmet is charging, when it is fully charged, the light turns green. If the light is red, then the battery is very low. However, the helmet will automatically charge with ambient light such as a garage light, sunlight, and even the welding spark. The manual says that with regular use, the helmet should rarely need charging with the cable, but they still recommend charging it fully with the charging cable every 6 months or so. Great helmet!
Thanks for the replacement parts mention: especially magnifying capabilities and some prices.
I'm looking to get a new everlast welder for my stable and figure I should get a new welding helmet to go along with it. This looks like a contender.
1)can you wear a respirator on the optrel
2) how's the customer service (European company)
3) heard complaints on the glass flashing people
It is a closer fitting helmet I would stay a very low profile respirator like the LPR-100 would fit. As far as customer service Optrel has been great. They typically handle any warranty claims directly. There have been a few issues but Optrel has made it right.
If opt to not go with Optrel I would check out the new Lincoln 3350 4th generation hood! I will link the review on that below:

Mine stopped charging after 7 months , they replaced entire Hood within a week. No sending anything back.
Shade #9 glass, in a Jackson run of the mill hood. Best clarity hands down, and the hood will last forever. The clarity of #9 glass is just fuckin amazing
Why didn't optrel add shade 13?? I weld at 400+ amps daily
The quattro is what you want then
I can drop 450 right in a few weeks, which hood should I get. I'm looking for clarity running tig mainly, but will mig and stick. I want to see my travel, puddle and all that jazz. I've been eyeing a few, but I'm uncertain. Cheers.
Tough question there are some great helmets on the market right now! We have tried them all except for the Crystal 2.0 that we will be getting next week. Stay tuned for that video hopefully in the next week. It is suppose to be a game changer for clarity! Also the Panoramaxx is a great choice too the view is awesome and its a super comfortable helmet with a lot of nice features such as the auto pilot, grind mode, and the wider viewing area. Other top rated helmets are the ESAB Sentinel, Miller Elite, and Speedglas 9100XXi. Let us know if you have any other questions before you make your decision :) We stock them all and ship for free!

I'm trying to adjust mine darkness on the helmet where do I do it from or does it needs to be charged??
Soooo which one IS THE BEST?
If you have not already check out the Crystal video and our updated helmet review video! I will link them below for you! Also Lincoln just came out with a new one yesterday.

So how does the optrel nose design work if your wearing glasses?
I love the noise notch how’s the clairity compared to the Viking 4c that’s one of the ones I’m using now
Show the welding through the lenses, colour is important to me
Good point! I wish I could attach a photo here. We did get some footage and pictures through it but did not include them in the video. If you email us we can send the pictures to you. support@bakersgas.net
Hello Andrew please demo the Philips Safety Glass Gold shade #10 alloweld lense in a head to head competition with an original American Optical WC-10 cobalt lense. Pair the AO WC-10 shade lense with a PhilSfty acrylic Super Magenta and let us know wether the Philips safety Alloweld lense by itself is more optically clear than the AO WC-10 paired with a Super Mag. Use vintage Thermacote Glass Protective cover plates for optimal clarity while testing both the different lenses. Whichever Fixed lense is more optically clear put that head to head in an optical competition against the most expensive auto dark Hood. Thanks!
Corby we will get this request to Andrew and see what he can do :)
Are you crazy!! Fixed shades are only good at a certain amp, go over the amp and you aren’t protected, fixed shades are not safe when welding at different amps
How many outer lenses are in a pack?
Neil- 5 are in the pack
How well is the fit when wearing a welding respirator?
I wear the Miller LPR-100 and it fits good.
You can wear a low profile respirator under the helmet comfortably
That’s good to know! I use a 3M P100 that’s a low profile.
Can i wear a 3m full face respirator with this hood???
How does this work at 200-225 Amp TIG welding? I'm a little concerned that the shade 12 might be too light for that (have not done any TIG welding yet, but I have a TIG capable machine and will be starting soon).
Loscaldazar most people weld at the incorrect shade level, the autopilot is amazing and shade 12 can protect you easily at 300amps.. plus you can always put a +1 shade inner lens in in you have to some very high amp work
Whats more clear, Miller clearlight or this Optrel?
Clarity is similar but I would say the Panoramaxx light state makes it seem more clear and bright! Also right now we do have a free bag with the Panoramaxx so be sure to check that out! :)
A question? Can you fit a magnifying lens to the panorama goggle lens?
You can! They make 1.00 - 2.5 below is links to them
www.bakersgas.com/OPT5000151.html
www.bakersgas.com/OPT5000152.html
www.bakersgas.com/OPT5000153.html
what does it come with?
It comes with the helmet, black mesh storage bag, spare cover lens, micro-USB charging cable and user manual
are there any problems wearing eyeglasses with it?
You can wear glasses under it you can adjust with the knobs how close the helmet sits to your face with glasses you would have it a little further out. They do make cheater lenses though which might be easier for you.
grind mode is the same shade as the light state which is 2.5 not 5.
Good catch thanks for noting that!
I thought it was a shade 2.5 in grind mode. You said shade 5 in grind mode which is it?
Light state is 2.0 and grind mode is shade 5 sorry for the confusion.
2.5 sorry for the confusion
9100 speedglas for live for me always on shade 13
Huh?
Speedglas suck
The Lincoln is actually rated at 3.5 in the light state
optrel has information about 2.5 in the light state
very interested ...the charging concerns me seems like a pain in the ass in the field
Bruce - when it is fully charged it lasts 1,000 hours of welding at shade 12 and the battery hold is about 170 days. Keep in mind it also has the solar assist.
Bruce Hopkin you charge it once honestly. Iv had it for some time and haven’t need to charge it yet. It also charges itself on welding anything over 60 amps I believe.
So does the nose pad not come with it as standard then?
Joshua- yes the helmet does come with a nose pad. (We did not put it in because several people are using the demo helmet) It is also sold separately if you wanted to replace it.
I thought it was a shade 2.5 for grind mode.
Can it be fitted on a hard hat?
Unfortunately there is not a hard hat adapter at this time! We will recommend that to them! :)
There is now
Biggest drawback are companies that don't offer hard hat adapters, not everyone works in a gravy fab shop.
Eric I have a hardhat for the Panoramaxx o a universal adapter that I got from the optrel rep, you can fit a hardhat on to any optrel hood
The headgear is a joke. A hood that is thus expensive should have a way better headgear. Best I've found is an esab sentinel a50.
Yes the Sentinel headgear has some great adjustability.
Can you wear glasses under this helmet?
You can adjust how close it sits to your face. It is much closer than other helmets so not as easily. They do make cheater lenses for this helmet so that may be a good option.
I wear glasses and a half mask and it works fine
My only problem with optrer is the setting button out side the welding helmet that is a big down side I guess the person making this helmet is not a welder does button out side sucks 👎👎👎👎👎
Sounds like if you have a big head, wear eye glasses, or are not rich, this may not be for me. Other than that sounds great !!
Steve Pederson not at all, it’s the same price pretty much as the XXi, I wear big proscription (70s style) glasses at work and I have never had an issue with it, and lastly I have a big ass head too and it fits me no problem! Lmao
erikdude666 , I need to wear a respirator as I get older, tig welding aluminum and my eye sight, I end up right in my work. Does not look like there is any room in the helmet for one.
What kind of respirator do you use?
erikdude666 Miller low profile strap on with rubber face. Do not remember model#, it’s at shop. Works in my old Jackson. My speedglass will not darken Tig welding, works good for stick though.
they have a fresh air set up as well 4441.660 panoramaxx welding helmet PAPR
Laughable if they think they’re better than speedglas
Great helmet but fragile…do not drop it… i cracked my lens….
Ahhh sorry to hear that! All of the helmets if you drop them just right will do that.
So this would not work well for those of use that wear glasses....BOOOO!!!!!
Very pricy.
It’s the worlds most advanced welding helmet and costs no more than the Speedglas... remember you only get one set of eyes!!
