Hi Craig. Great building videos. Hex screws are always annoying. Good everything worked in the end

Hey Dirk, they were a little frustrating but we got there in the end. It is always fun building a new kit 😎

    Very interesting viewing Craig.
Love the way you recorded it/clearly talked us through the proceedings, it's like we were doing the build ourselves!
That actually looks like quite a challenging build.... and felt your pain regarding those diff issues, glad you got there in the end mate.
Loving all the extra tamiya blue anodised hop ups thrown in, makes it feel that much more special.
Wise words regarding not over tightening, I've learnt that one the hard way in the past!
Am I the only one who actually prefers the old school screws over the hex's?? 🤔
Coming on great fella, looking forward to the next chapter!

Hey buddy, yeah the diff issues were a pain but part of the RC process to have some issues! It is a really nice kit and the pro version was worth the additional costs in my opinion.
Question is will it be better for them out on the rally stages? Only time will tell 😁 Thanks for watching as always matey 👍🏻👍🏻

Really coming to together now bud. Have always loved when Tamiya tosses in the blue bits...really makes the car look killer.

Good progress on the XV-02 build Craig! Glad the problematic diff got sorted in the end. I’m also always afraid of over tightening and stripping the plastic threads accidentally. Pays to do it slowly and carefully.👍😊

Hi Craig, very interesting watch mate! Oh my, diff issues! On the XV02 I had, I found it very tricky to get the diff out to change the bevel / ring gear. Those 4 tiny hex screws were a right mare, I found the span in the plastic far too easily when I tightened them up. You are right, you really need to be careful when screwing on this one! Good consumer advice right there matey! Hope the rest of the build goes smoothly. Cheers! 😉🙏👍

Hey Mark, it was a bloody nightmare and one everyone needs to watch as these diffs are popping up in a few more places now from Tamiya. Thankfully a little care and it is ok now but I wouldn’t want to be going back in for an oil change anytime soon! Thanks for watching matey 👍🏻🙌🏻

Hi there Craig, very interesting build steps. Those small hex screws look to be tricky. I find on delicate screws, I don’t use the extension handle on the Tamiya screwdriver set, that way you can feel the torque being applied to the screw and the material that is being tightened, using just your finger tips. Well, that’s how I ensure that I don’t over tighten and strip the material. Those differentials look to be very temperamental, certainly lucky that you had a spare ring gear. Best wishes 😊

Hey John, it was a bit fiddly I agree and I was glad I got it finished nicely. I realised that using the drivers without the handle worked best. Great advice dude 👍🏻🙌🏻

Hey Pete, yes all part of the fun and games of a build. I think I should have taken more care on the seating of the gears in the diff. The more care I took on the others meant no issues thankfully 😁 Thanks for watching dude 👍🏻🙌🏻

Oddly enough, I’ve had more issues over the years with hex heads than with phillips heads.😂

Hey Jeremy, I am starting to wonder if the quality of the Tamiya tools is not quite as good as top end tools? Would love to get an upgrade for the next hex kit I have to build later this year. Any recommendations??

@@theoagrc i wondered this as well with my Tamiya hex drivers. I hear great things about the MIP drivers I just can’t bring myself to pony up the cash for a couple….I just may have to breakdown and get them.

It's possibly due to the screws being mostly machine not self tappers 🤔 Great build so far matey even though you had issues with that pesky diff 👍👌

Cheers Rob, I did wonder if I should have tapped the holes on this one first? Probably need some taps as some of the other kits I have to build don’t have them either!

Its nice to see tamiya put that little bit extra into some of there chassis. Blue bling looks cool 😎 cant wait to get another car build done. But gotta wait for the kyosho dirt master 😁

@@theoagrc the moment it arrives its getting built then hopefully hitting the track alongside the genova 😁 see who wins the battle. Would like to spend more time with it, but lots of vintage races to get cars ready for. And not a lot of tracktime for them 😂 i think these xv02 cars would be awsome on a big astro track 🤔

I would like to see a rally event in the UK like those ones in Europe and the US. Less running behind the car though as I would 100% stack it!

Hey Thad, thanks for watching brother. We are a little behind on production here as since Christmas one or all of us has been sick. Looks like the bugs are behind us so we might get started this weekend. However, progress will be a lot slower than Grayson for sure!

Interesting to see tamiya moving towards hex hardware. Thry can strip very easy without good drivers I have found . Find it worse on rtr models where they have been factory drilled in. Glad you got it sorted though . The XV01 just had screws didnt it? I really liked that as they were high quality but easy to work with .👍

    • @theoagrc
      @theoagrc  Рік тому

You are right about the XV01 I think it was screws throughout. The hex hardware feels nice but I need a decent set of drivers for the future methinks!
