    Why Dive Nitrox? ▶️ (Coming Soon!)
    ---
    Nitrox Diving, also known as Enrich Air Nitrox (EANx) Diving, is one of the most popular certifications open water divers get after completing their initial training. Nitrox allows you to have increased NDL (no decompression limits), can potentially help you feel less tired after diving, and some even claim it helps with their SAC rate as well.
    Unfortunately, Nitrox Diving dangers and risks exist as well, and if you don't take the proper precautions, diving nitrox can be dangerous. Nitrox blends have max operating depths (MODs) that need to be adhered to, and the only way to calculate this is to know what percentage of oxygen is in your nitrox blend. This means analyzing your blend properly.
    In this video, I use the Nuvair O2 Quickstick Oxygen Analyzer to showcase how to properly analyze a nitrox tank for scuba diving, how to check your cylinder's oxygen percentage, how to log your nitrox blend, how to mark your tank, and the risks involved with not analyzing your nitrox tank before diving.
    This video is NOT sponsored, however Nuvair sent me the O2 Quickstick for free and therefore I have to disclose that. Some product links are affiliate links which means if you buy something we'll receive a small commission.

    I can confirm the Nuvair is a great analyzer. Very easy to use.
    A couple callouts:
    1) Hold the Nuvair away from the tank when first opening the valve as demonstrated in the video. The sensor is delicate and can be damaged if the valve is opened too much.
    2) Make sure to adjust for altitude when needed as the reading will be inaccurate.

    It is a very good idea to have a stick. I’ve gotten by without needing one, either by asking the shop to take the reading in front of me, asking on board the boat, or in my favorite scenario, the shop makes you take the reading in front of them and sign off on it. Never found myself in a scenario where I’m expected to trust what the shop/operator says it is without verifying. Thats just bad business…and an instant negative review on the shop. I am a big fan of the quickstick. The palm analyzer is solid as well for the price.

    Excellent video, my two cents for this one is not to buy the replacement sensor at the same time as the analyzer. The shelf life of that spare sensor will be similar to the one been used in the analyzer so both will be not good at the same time. I have already seen this happening to two different persons.

    I mean, you will get the training on how to do this as soon as you take the specialty course. I understand that there's a degree of risk involved in not analysing your tanks before dives, but I feel that the risk is lower if you get an acknowledgment from the shop that they don't do EANx. Most dive shops in Indonesia (i.e. Bali) don't do EANx and if they do, the tanks will normally be a special one as it's quite rare for recreational divers to asks for one (normally they're in the process of doing their Open Water trainings and not EANx qualified).
    But if I'm aware from the shop/ if I can spot a few EANx tanks in the shop, I will definitely test my tanks. That Nuvair though is quite huge huh ~~ DNA got a smaller one. Do check it and hope you'll make a video out of it as I'm wanting to buy another portable one. It's time for my Analox O2EII Pro to retire as it's been inhaling bad air for years. (jokes, I just want a new one).

    • @CircleHScuba
      @CircleHScuba  5 місяців тому +1

      People learn it in the course but often don’t have an analyzer and I’ve seen people just trust the operators too often.
      I haven’t seen the DNA one, I may check it out though. The quick stick is pretty compact and portable in my opinion though.

      Helium analyzers are even more pricey! If you ever plan on doing trimix diving, you might consider forking out the extra 💰 for safety and get a combined He and O2 analyzer. In the meantime, just borrow your dive center's analyzer.

    • @CircleHScuba
      @CircleHScuba  5 місяців тому +1

      @mcmoore02 if they have one readily available and didn’t forget it in the shop when you’re on the boat already pulled from the dock.

    • @mcmoore02
      @mcmoore02 5 місяців тому +1

      @@CircleHScuba Yeah that's bad. As certified Nitrox divers, we must analyze the tank before the dive. And that includes before the tank is on the boat because if it is the wrong mix, the situation must be corrected. Period. I have always resolved this scenario with the dive operator before I pay for a Nitrox dive and that includes making sure they can supply an analyzer and I can analyze it before it is loaded on the boat. Otherwise Air. So far it has not been an issue, but I am sure people have had awful experiences.

    I would like to ask three Odd questions, 1- these convulsions are reversible? , explaining, giving the victim another source of air, doable for that depth, can help the victim recover? 2- If we can't recover a convulsing victim, what can we do if we are with a buddy? do an emergency ascent even risking the bends to save that person? I would in that situation? 3- Imagine this situation, my buddy has nitrox 32, and i'm one of those pig headed guys that like the good old air, the regulator of my buddy for some reason enters on a free flow, and all that good nitrox is going to waste, can I give my buddy my air? because my air combination is quite different than theirs, it might cause my buddy some harm, even on an emergency situation? thank you very much love your videos

    • @CircleHScuba
      @CircleHScuba  5 місяців тому +1

      Hey! These are awesome questions, thank you for asking them.
      I’m going to preface this by saying this is hypothetical and while I’m an instructor, I’m not your current instructor, so this is general advice and tips but not instruction or medical advice, to cover myself legally 😊.
      1) Can you recover from CNS Seizure?
      Well, the convulsions causing the diver to spit the reg out usually means they take on water and I don’t think air from a redundant Octo will help necessarily unless they stop convulsing quickly. What I’ve read is that the best route is to do a safe controlled ascent to the surface while trying to control them as best as possible as they thrash. They also may have banged their head multiple times on the 1st stage while convulsing so there’s many dangers here. Once surfaced, opening the airway and trying to get them to breathe or delivering rescue breaths if you’re trained is the best option. The CNS hit itself is dangerous, but the issue is drowning and thrashing that may not allow you to easily surface them without them harming themselves or you, and without them sucking down so much water you’re basically trying to revive them from drowning.
      2) What can we do if we are their buddy?
      Well, this is something dive buddies have to decide. Put themselves at risk and risk having two injured divers or letting them go. It’s something each diver has to assess for themselves based on the situation. Regardless of if you can give them air, help raise them to the surface, etc. you need to make these considerations in putting yourself at risk.
      3) Scenario you described
      You can give your buddy air in that situation. Absolute worse case is their NDL was super low and they may need a deco stop. You end the dive with a failure like a free flow, and I’d have them sip from the free flowing reg if possible like you learn in open water until the tank is fully spent, though they may be panicking so that may not be doable.
      I’d also switch their computer’s gas back to air if possible to see what their computer says. Otherwise go off your computer and start your ascent. As an air diver your NDL would’ve been lower than theirs, so if you were good buddies and dove close to each other on the same depth, they should’ve had more NDL than you so they would’ve been heading up before the NDL was so low it would force them into decompression. Like, your NDL would’ve been low so they would’ve gone up. That’s why we follow the most conservative computer in a dive group.
      For example let’s just say you had 12 mins at the depth you were at and they had 30. Them having an issue at 10 mins means there’s 2 mins at that depth on air before deco, so you should be able to share air and start your ascent, which raises your NDL since you’re going up.

    • @evolvedmonkey9978
      @evolvedmonkey9978 5 місяців тому +1

      @@CircleHScuba thanks a lot for your answers, so, in the case me and my buddy go to a dive, it is always safer to have the same combination of nitrox or both air, that question about Nitrox always made me question all those variables with NDL between "simple air" and mixtures of Nitrox, hence I will read those Dive tables to heart, of course I have my Mares Puck Po, but it's always good to know the max time for each gas mixture on the actual tables, I generally dive no more than 18 meters - 59 feet so the data I have on my head is "AIR-NDL = 56 minutes" "EAN32-NDL = 95 minutes" and "EAN36-NDL= 125 minutes" I trust the computer, but control each minute with a watch. Until of course I man up and go for decompression certification which I must add, love it, thank you
