Shout out to the metaphorically, rhetorically, poetically, theoretically, and objectively greatest animation film of 2022 in every other fancy way.
STRAIGHT. UP.
We are seriously living in a timeline where Puss in FAKING Boots received better deconstruction and reconstruction in his 2nd spinoff movie than Luke Skywalker did in the mainline films…
Yeah, I've kept saying that thoughout the stream, but it's pretty apparent. Also, Puss only needed 90 minutes to do so.
A fool needs a thousand flowery words to say nothing. Wise guys have a point and get to it.
Writers- Puss in boots, guess what?!
Puss- What?
Writers- You suck! Now you get to go on a fantastical, wonderful, emotional adventure to rediscover yourself. And Luke!
Luke-.... Yes?
Writers- You suck!
Luke-........... And?
Writers- Nah you just suck lol get rekt
The Sword in the Stone is such a great joke.
"Yeah, I couldn't get this rock off of it, but still! It's a great weapon!"
Another neat detail: When Death says he'll take Puss's last life right now, the reflection that says "That's cheating!" is the one where Puss died cheating against those dogs at cards. :)
One thing that I want to point out is that Puss does not possess "bravery" in the beginning of the movie; in a word, he is not brave but has bravado. This could also be interpreted as "foolhardiness." People generally think that positive qualities like bravery are only contrasted by cowardice, but in reality they are often the middle of two extremes, and Puss is a great example. At the beginning, he's foolhardy, but his brush with Death pushes him into the other extreme of cowardice. It's only when he accepts that he might die but is willing to fight for his life that he truly exhibits courage. It's paradoxical, but it's accurate to life.
Well said
Perfect example of "children's entertainment" transcending itself.
A perfect example to use if anyone uses the “it’s just a kids film” argument.
I loved Jack Horner as a villain. He’s straight up evil and the movie revels in it. It even gives a reason for why he’s hateful of magic and magical creatures. He couldn’t compete with them ever since he was a child. It was “their fault” that he didn’t get the adoration he deserved. All of it was shown to us within minutes and it’s great.
I adored Jiminy Cricket getting paired with him. The Hugh Neutron-adjacent voice was a good decision
I don't normally like subversion of tropes because it's almost always lazy, but "Muh tragic childhood" bullshit has become so ubiquitous that a movie going "Yeah, his childhood was great and he's just an asshole" was fantastic.
Fun fact: The director of this movie is Joel Crawford. He's a veteran at DreamWorks, having worked on the Kung Fu panda trilogy as a lead animator, and this is his second directing debut; the first being Croods 2, which I heard was very good. He's two for two with this movie and I'm really happy. Puss N Boots the Last Wish is in my top five movies last year. It was shockingly good, and I took this to see with my nieces and nephews because they wanted to see a movie, and I didn't want to sit for three hours in Avatar 2, and boy I'm glad I did. It's amazing how competent this movie is from a writing perspective. Characters that actually feel real in they have easy-to-understand motivations and aren't idiots. Plus, the Macguffin plot is utilized well here(this film is gorgeously animated). The villains in this movie were great. The wolf might be one of my new favorite DreamWorks villains.
It's a movie that had a message it wanted to tell for both kids and adults(best kids movies) and also treated the audience with respect with regards to their intelligence. I really hope that KFP 4 and Shrek 5 are this good, because, between this and The Bad Guys(another great DreamWorks movie of this year), DreamWorks film-wise might be going through a renaissance. In a time where Disney animation-wise is faltering no less. Ironic.
_Croods 2_ was alright; like this one, it was more cartoonishly animated than its predecessor. I still prefer _Croods_ 1 though, 2 doesn't really know what it wants its plot to be while 1 was rock solid and super underrated.
_The Last Wish_ is a huge improvement on both Puss and Croods 2
Yep I agree this movie uses the mcguffin concept well, the mcguffin services the plot instead of the plot servicing the mcguffin which what most movies devolve into...
@@Sgt.Dornan117 Can you explain? Not necessarily disagreeing with you on the subject but I want a explanation on how exactly a plot services the mcguffin and an example of such.
Fun Fact: If you listen very closely, you can hear Death's whistle before Puss is killed by the Bell right when Puss comes back into the screen because the crowed is still cheering for him, further supporting the claim that Death was watching him.
You could briefly see him in the crowd as well.
You do hear the whistle.....wow.
I don't know if I hear the whistle their.
I think that's just the crowd cheering and whistling, I can't hear Death at all
I can only here the very beginning of the whistle
Another really neat little detail that wasn't mentioned.
The horses pulling Jack Horner's pumpkin wagon? They're not horses, they're unicorns with their horns cut, you can still see the stub.
Truly, nothing is wasted.
I don't ever wanna see excuses for shitty media like "it's made for children".
Every now and then we see what quality "made for children" stories are capable of. Give children some credit and push writers and animators to create good shnitzle like this.
Children's movies are all I watch now.
I'm tired of every movie now filled with murder and swearing and drugs/alcohol and sex and overall depressing scenes ... I want to have fun again!
This movie was made for families. Something for everyone, and gives the parents something to talk about with their kids.
Both of my kids (9 and 5) absolutely loved this movie, as did their mom and I.
It’s a film for adults that can still be viewed by children
@@averywot. Or is it a film for children that can be appreciated by adults?
I just want to point something out about death's voice (55:40). He was voiced by Wagner Moura, which is a brazilian actor where here we know him by Capitão Nascimento from Tropa de Elite (there was a english dub for both movies, called Elite Squad), but internationally he is more known for his role in Narcos as Pablo Escobar. This movie... THIS MOVIE... WAS HIS FIRST VOICE ACTING JOB. He smashed it!
he knocked it out of the park, Death was great
Absolutely unreal, dude. Eu não sabia que Wagner fazia voice acting em animações, mas depois desse filme eu absolutamente desejo ver mais dele
Fringo knows
1:47:45
well, he didnt know about nascimento and also being his first VA job so... lol but yeah, i commented before getting to that part but there are also other neat stuff I mentioned. Wagner got robbed on the VA oscars @@Neo2266.
@@theabsolutetrashman3708nao tinha como voce saber, esse foi o primeiro trabalho dele kkkk antes desse filme voce nao saberia mesmo
My first watch I thought Jack Hoarder was a red herring Perito was gonna be the main antagonist, and Death was a sibling that threw him in the river. I’m so glad I was wrong
The complete lack of an 11th hour twist villain is the most underrated part of this movie given the modern animation landscape.
Fun detail that forshadows deaths Identity in the movie:
Every major player in the movie that is after Puss and the map gets their own introduction with a wanted poster. All except death. The movie hides this pretty cleverly by introducing death as the first antagonist. Really smart writing IMO
That, and also there's no icon for the Wolf on the Star Map.
Okay but if you think about it, the movie wants you to think death is a bounty hunter at first… why would he have a wanted poster if they were trying to fake you out? Kinda seems like it was more to make you believe that hes just a bounty hunter than hint that he’d death
the wolf was really fucking badass
"Death!" ...Crystal in front of face cracks to pieces...
@@Blizz3112 Straight up.
Excalibur still being in the stone is my favorite gag in this movie. It properly represents Jack Horner’s character: he is not worthy of the sword, but he’ll brute-force it to work for him anyway. And I appreciate that the movie doesn’t water the joke down by having another character stop and spell it out for the audience - like a lot of shows do these days.
Antonio banderas is so integral to the character he does the spanish dub himself :p
That's awesome! Glad to hear he did both
it's a bit of a shame Wagner Moura didn't do the wolf in the brazil dub, though the brazil VA did a awesome job too
_Puss in Boots: The Last Wish_ is what the G Rating is supposed to be. _Everyone_ can enjoy a good story
Yeah, but... It's rated PG.
@@Firguy Parental Guidance suggested, cuz the kids are gonna have some questions about life.
Rated PG, for Pretty Good
I think the part that really helps with his 8th death was that he would’ve survived if he didn’t go back on screen to boast. Just adds extra emphasis to how his unnecessary arrogance leads to his downfall.
44:20 What I find most amusing about this scene is *all of the shellfish very clearly visible in the meal*
Perrito is embodiment of _you have to be a fool before you become a master._
41:00 You missed the second time Wolf appears. You can see his red eyes and face just barely in the background before Puss is crushed by the bell.
Where exactly?

Two red eyes behind the Giant's eyepatch.
@@Arko777777 Sorry to say, but those are berries on a bush. You can see that the rest of the bush also has red spots in the exact same color up the giant's head. As much as I like this movie and think its good, that reference is false
@@miep3934 Nope. You can see the outline of his face. Watch closely.
@@Arko777777 If that is what that is, It's way to vague. I see what you mean, but it looks more like the form of the cliff behind puss.
It is so refreshing to have a villain who is just evil and without any stupid last second twist villains.
A stick is a sword-like weapon!
So I just want to copy and paste a comment I saw from another video (@uncannysnake as the original) that kind of blew my mind, on a video showing the 8 tolls of the bell in the giant fight.
"Also:
He goes through 7 walls when being thrown against the jack horner sign by the giant (yes that goofy scene actually had PURPOSE, he should have died on each impact)
7 impact lines when the bell hits the giant
7 people (and one animal) being captured and rescued by the giant
DEATH 8
8 glasses in the bar, with him being careless with the ninth
chandelier with 8 candles goes out
bell rings 8 times in the bar
8 marks on the weapon of death (well that one is not hidden but its worth mentioning)
The death whistle has 8 notes (that is also why the melody seems kinda incomplete, apart from the whole "you will not hear the last note when he takes you away" they were going for)
The numerology of this movie is insane and I bet I also missed a lot of stuff even, for example I found nothing in the danceparty scene before but I am sure stuff is there too"
Wow. That's incredible. 😳👏😁
I think they made Jimminy Cricket sound like Jimmy Stewart on purpose. He's got that classic wholesome vibe in his films.
I believe it was Blake Synder who said, every movie is allowed one "mircale", one moment of serendipity. The first convenient coincidence is what gives you a story to tell. The second convenient coincidence is when people start saying they don't buy it.
It is convenient that the map was arriving shortly after his eighth death, but no other factor was coincidence. Every other factor was given firm causality. The reason Kitty didn't try until tonight is because tonight is when the map was getting delivered to Jack, which Goldi and the bears exposited in the conversation Puss overheard. The only thing anyone involved knew was that the map would be arriving at Jack's factory that night, so they all showed up to steal it at the time of arrival.
1:41:20 Kitty does these space-and-time defying stunts all the time, in this movie and also the first one, mostly when she steals stuff. It was totally possible she snuck inside the chest when Horner was talking with these goons.
For example she switches up the map Puss holds (while running away from Jack Horners place) for one of his boots (while he's running!!) or when she switches Perrito for a pinecone when the Bears and Goldi looked away for a second.
You might question now, well how she opened that lock? She has no claws unlike Puss, after all. Well, the first movie also established that she opens locks like that with her sword.
Although, they also establish that her sword wasn't very effective compared to Puss's claws
@@PvtIndi true. But an assumption can be made that she got better considering this movie definitely takes a place a good amount of time after PIB1
It's a pretty minor thing, and as you said she is a supernaturally gifted thief. Who can catch things that explode on contact.
At around 1:35:00, you guys chat about the scene where Jack Horner is getting the map from the sisters and how it's a contrivance that these characters have converged here. I don't think there is a major contrivance here. We know the Sisters retrieved the map, and we can tell from their mannerisms that they were clearly bad at keeping details about this under wraps due to their eagerness to talk about all the murders they did, or perhaps the murders led to the criminal underworld becoming aware the sisters have the map. This leads to Goldi knowing about the map, which leads to Goldi trying to hire Kitty Softpaws (an extremely gifted thief) to retrieve the map. When hiring Kitty falls through (bc she wants the map for herself), Goldi tries to hire Puss instead which leads to everyone ended up at Jack Horner's factory, where they all know it is being delivered. I fail to see the coincidence there, it all follows.
Edit: It is mentioned later that it's a stretch that Kitty is going for the map now rather than later. Since the Sisters had to travel to get here, it could easily be that their location was unknown while people did know the map's destination.
Yeah, the transfer is often the easiest time to steal something like this, every other time it's either locked away or hidden, but if you know it's going to switch hands from the sisters to Jack at a certain time, that is a good point to strike.
At least with movie logic. But in real life as well, a fair amount of prison breaks happen during a prisoner transfer, a good amount of robbers target transports, because they're less secure than a bank.
They definitely could have explained it a bit more, for example if the bears plan is made clear and everyone knows it, adapting that plan for your own ends is the way to go, but it's not a big deal
I'm so happy just to be able to watch a film and like it without making too many caveats. Sure, this movie isn't perfect (an excuse I've heard so many people use to defend why they like terribly written things) but it does so many things well. The movie has some real substance to it's art style, animation, the characters, the message, and everything else.
I remember seeing ads for this movie and thinking it was just gonna be a meh cash grab. A date and I went and saw it in a whim when our other movie plans didn't work out and I'm so glad I did. This movie was a passion project, that I have no doubt in my mind about.
I don't understand why people need to defend why they like something so vehemently. You can enjoy something while still recognizing it's flaws.
Yeah, Lightyear has time travel and alternate timelines. I don't even know how the main villain exists. Just watch puss in boots 2 again instead lol
"Ya got Goldilocks and the three bears, and they're very British"
lmao
*I love hearing the laugh of my favourite German person.*
Ah yes, quality content about quality content
Florence Pugh was born in Oxford, England, and has lived in England for several years. So, it was less her having range and more like her going back to her roots.
I just like the dynamic between Jack Horner and Pirrito. Pirrito has nothing and wants nothing, the most that he wants is friends and for his friends to get what they want. He gives of himself to others. Jack is a character who has everything and is unsatisfied, he wants more and even when people sacrifice their lives for him, it’s not enough. They could not be more polar opposites
One thing i think is really cool, is that when the start is lifting up off the ground it is a shade of blue, gets hit by one of Horners Magic Staff blast, THEN turn the same shade of purple as the blast that hit, and its only after that that the barrier turns deadly. Sort of implying that the star is an amplifier of magic, and hence if you make a wish with it, it comes true.
2:12:40 OMG, that's me. That's absolutely me, getting paralyzed by my thoughts on 'what's next' ballooning into this massive web of consequences and scenarios I'm not prepared for.
I don't know how this movie convo turned into chicken soup for the soul, but I'm definitely going to come back to this segment a few times in the coming weeks as I continue my eternal struggle to put myself together.
hope you're ok. we all need some chicken tortilla soup.
Don’t quote me on this because I don’t know for sure if this tracks, but there’s a really cool detail with Perrito’s name. For the first half of the movie Puss and Kitty call him Perro, which just means “dog”. It’s during the panic attack scene that Puss first calls him Perrito, “little dog” (making the name diminutive expresses affection in Spanish), showing that Puss has now come to trust him, and for the rest of the movie he remains Perrito.
I went into this movie expecting it to be mediocre but I was blown away by it.
My brother dragged me tooth and nail to go watch it; I was sure it was alright but wasn't sure why he was in such a hurry to actually go watch it.
Movie blew me away. We walked out of the theater like ". . . So that was a 9.5/10"
Me and my pal went in there expecting it to be great, and we were still blown away. I know that giving 10/10 to anything is one of those things the internet frowns upon because "Oh, so you're saying that it's prefect and it can never ever be improved upon, huh?", or something equally inane, but this movie completely deserves it.
The diversity on Metal's Forge is amazing... We have Germans, green people and meme people.
0:25:30 yes. The cat body language is great in this movie.
It infuriated me in the game stray how wrong they got it. Fell right into the uncanny valley. Couldn't watch that for more than 5 seconds and was glad I checked out some footage before buying.
Because they mad puss in boots so freaking agile. It just makes you not believe Shrek could have ever bested him the way he did
Fun fact, the voice of Death Wolf is Pablo Escobar from Narcos
The film was just amazing. Easily my favourite of the Shrek films!
Puss going through a character journey that, how the chat and several comments here point out, does a great job of desconstruction of the legendary and fallen heroes tropes (unlike a certain already mentioned high grossing movie franchise *cough* SW *cough*).
Kitty is a very understandablefrom her trust issues and once you get the full picture of her reasons and motivations really workout to the relationship. I never felt she was being unreasonable or annoying in her behavior and never belitled Puss (the main hero) and had contribution to the story (she was really one of the reasons he was able to survive the fight vs Death due to her knife, which I saw people comment that it is both symbolic and complements his sword fighting style).
My opinion of Perrito is pretty much the same from the hosts. You just cannot not love the little guy and his joyful manner!
They really did a great job with the villains/antagonists as well. Jack was my least favourite but still well written remorseless villain; I just loved the Goldilocks and her family storyline and development, where in a less good movie their character group would be badly used and wasted, but not here; And finally Wolf/Death, who was not only the best anatagonist of the film, but also one of the best in western animation as well, and as one of the best potrayals of death in fiction (I usually prefer the the kind gentle reaper, but sometimes and like the dreaded kind; with this one one of the best I've seen) ! Props to Wagner Moura, the writting team, art direction and every other people in the production for the scene he appears.
Thanks for the stream and the discussion. It really helps to highlight the movie and all the praise it receives is well earned!
as a spanish person watching this in spanish with also antonio banderas was a blast. Might have been my favourite animated movie experience since spider verse.
So he did the voice for Puss In Spanish as well? Oh right on, that's great! That would be cool to watch
@@thetoad5407 yup he's so good, also most of the actors did the clasic spanish accent in the dub which not always happens.
I like how they chose a Jimmy Stewart-type voice to play Jimmney Cricket
A cat's version of death would probably be a big, dark, & scary wolf.
1:11:40 In a way you could say that Puss found it easier to run because he wasn’t living a life worthy to stay and fight for. In those flashbacks, the majority were of his legend (followed up by Kitty, his mom, and then Shrek). But now that he has a life worth living and sharing, he can face the anxiety and fear for that life.

Hahaha! When I saw the trailers, I didn't think I'd like the character, (goofy cutesy sidekick) but he turned out to be a great character and served the plot and characters immensely
Not having seen any trailers, my first thought on seeing Perrito was "oh god, he's the annoying sidekick" and I was prepared to hate him.
But, like he says, if you stop to smell the roses (or more likely just get stuck with him on screen with no choice) you'll quickly start appreciating him.
It would not surprise me if this was the intentional read. See Perrito for 30 seconds and nobody wants him, spend 90 minutes with him and you can't help but love him.
This stream should be called “Meme gushes about cats.” It’s nice to hear, tbh. There is far too much dog supremacy on EFAP.
Not surprising given that Rags is one of the hosts.

Really pleased to see you all go though this. Top tier animated movie.
its honestly staggering how not annoying Perrito is
so many cheery happy cutesy characters end up just being irritating and i kinda want them to just stop talking already please
but the voice acting, the dialogue and the humor, and the animation as well deliver very well here

ANOTHER THING
When Wolf lands the blow on Puss, the reason the whole world goes the same red as Wolf's eyes is because, for Puss, Death just overlaid his entire world.
unironically excited for shrek 5 after watching this movie
Just as a random note, the ring-a-roses song is nothing to do with the plague. There is no reference to it until the early Victorian era and was re-interpreted in the early 20th century to apply to the plague (which was a common trend to associate children's rhymes to historical events).
Loved the movie. It’s perfectly in accordance with Propp - hero enters magic forest, faces challenges, and emerges transformed from the experience
I loved hearing about this movie from you guys (and EFAP), but hadn't seen it yet. I saw it last week. I want to see it again. 😊👍
And I did. I saw it again. 👏😁 Love it even more now. Gonna get the physical 4K. #yaboy
Would love to see this movie on EFAP. Definitely gotta give attention to great movies like this to balance out the c*** that Hollywood peddles out. I saw another review make a great point, Death is similar to Anton Chigur from No Country for Old Men. Which blew my mind and made me kick myself in the butt. No Country for Old Men is one of my favorite movies and I never made that connection, both are menacing portrayals of an unstoppable force.
24:00 the fight sequence at the start between Puss and the giant reminded very much of Attack on Titan.

27:40 The Beginning
Regarding the whole "wish for infinite wishes" thing, I'd say there's probably a bit of a message about not being greedy in there too. Puss wasn't planning on getting infinite or double or whatever extra lives, just the 8 he wasted, and at the end when they decided they don't need the wish because they either grew, got what they wanted, or realized they've always had it, doesn't seem like they were thinking of getting something else.
Jack Horner, on the other hand, well he basically wanted infinite wishes, because when controlling all magic, he could probably get the equivalent, if not exactly that. And it did lead to his downfall (other than... just being all-around horrible). If he was just another party competing for a measured wish like everyone else (and wasn't the most evil creature in existence), at that point they would have probably just let him have it

Rags is best boy, but Perrito is bestest boy...
This movie was everything to me: Refreshing, beautiful, entertaining, inspiring, funny, simple yet detailed, and made with passion, thought, and purpose. It reminded me that there was more to film and cinema than movies that are routinely pumped out, each one as generic as the last, being treated as a stepping stone or a throwaway project by those who make them. Films and TV seasons such as these are content for content's sake, which many, myself included, have begun to tire of. Further, these pieces of "content" attempt to bait viewers into watching their creations and pay them hard-earned money in one of the most superficial ways possible: including cameos, using famous actors, and/or using pre-existing characters. However, having the mental capacity of beans, these people have no idea what they have, or why they have it. They often cannot and do not comprehend the significance of the things that came before, or the things that they are working with. They have no passion and no creativity.
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is a glorious exception, and its existence and creation in a time where creativity and passion for film seem to be lacking, it's a miracle we got to see it. This film is so much fun and actually has deeper themes and ideas than the surface-level garbage some have grown accustomed to. I am overwhelmed by how fortunate I am to be alive when this film was created, and I will celebrate its triumphant existence until the day I meet Death.
Thank you to all who made this: You are legendary.
2:11:32 I love this section so much. 👏🥰🙏😁👍
Antonio Banderas has always been great. Just not always in great films.
This is also for the algorithm.
2:48:03 My issue though with that scene is that when Kitty reveals she didn't show up, it does cause an issue with her being so mad at him throughout the movie. It's very much a part of the live where the writers were trying to have their cake and eat it too. They wanted to try and hammer home the message of Puss loving himself, but forgot that Kitty was so vehemently upset and distrusting of him, almost specifically because of that event. So when she says she didn't even show up, her attitude retroactively in the film really should just be dismissive and disappointed, not angry and so outwardly distrusting.
I just wish they wouldn't have added it. It's maybe my one, or at leastbiggest complaint with the movie.
Yeah I also noticed that as well. To me, her not showing up and then being mad at Puss for doing the same thing kinda makes her a hypocrite. And I was kind of sad cause I really liked her story up until that point. I feel like if they just take that one line out, it would fix her whole arc.
I got the feeling that she was lying about that though, so they could patch up their relationship faster. Like, she very much made it very easy on Puss to come clean, and the way she refers to Santa Caloma in that particular scene is completely different to how she's talked about it both before and after that scene.
Like, she wouldn't have implied that Puss betrayed her if she anticipated him not turning up and didn't show as well. That's more disappointment than betrayal.
@@Birthday888 I definitely agree, you're meant to read into it that Kitty was lying. It could have been less subtle, but it is fairly clearcut. Kitty is bothered by not being able to trust Puss for nearly the whole movie, except for that singular moment, when she had just found out the guilt had been eating him alive. And when she says it, it sounds very made up on the spot. Reading it that she just wanted Puss to stop feeling guilty, is extremely reasonable.
@@FabbrizioPlays Right. Like, before she overhears Puss, she's very accusatory whenever she talks about Santa Caloma. But during that scene in the tree, she instead teases him about it. I really can't see it as anything but her lying to him that she didn't show up so he wouldn't have to feel as guilty. Especially when she returns to the same behavior/tone when she thinks Puss has been lying to her.
She was lying to make him feel better, the first time I saw that scene I thought that, mostly because of the tone she uses, it didn't sound serious as if it wasn't the truth. Plus, how would she know he didn't show up if she didn't?
I just unconsciously watched 50 minutes of this. I’ve never heard of anyone here(that ik of). Keep up the good work?

He did bring it up on a stream with Nerdrotic last week briefly. Said he quite enjoyed it. I do think the EFAP crew should do a stream on it tho, movies like this should get talked about and praised more.
Bit easier to say if you're doing video content. Not so much when people just passively consume your work, without even an indication that someone does actually enjoy it; or even worse, when you can't even tell if your stuff is reaching anyone.
Ah yes, the movie I've been hearing all the good things about... Pussy in shoes 2: Heterosexual Boogaloo.
Highlighting his 9 lives in this does somewhat worsen the scene in Shrek 2 when he's at Shrek's mercy, and he actually does seem concerned for his safety. If these movies take place after the Shrek films, and he says "oh whatever, i have 9 lives" and "idk, i never counted", then it wouldn't make sense for him to be so nervous about danger in Shrek 2.
I assumed he became cockier over time.
'A tissue, a tissue'? I always heard the "ring around the rosies" as 'ashes, ashes we all fall down' referring to how everyone was burned after they succumbed to the black plague... maybe it's because I live in America where everything remotely British has to be "Wrong" (Sarcasm for those of you who aren't aware that's still a mindset not every American adheres to)
Dr Pepper is the best drink ever

*Puss in Boots 2: The Furry Boogaloo*
The way you all keep pronouncing Perrito is hurting my soul. Lol
I like this movie but the hand-drawn animation kinda gives me a migrain. I don't get migraines.
kungfupanda4letsGOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
Mootal was not tricked, Dr Pepper Zero tastes better than normal Dr Pepper and I personally don’t think I can ever go back
I think this movie has better villains than the first one (the wolf and goldie in particular), but the first took itself more seriously and took more time to make you care about the characters. This one felt kinda rushed and there were a bit too many jokes for me, the jokes would undercut too many serious moments for me and felt like padding for the writers not knowing how they wanted to move the story forward. The action was great and every time the wolf showed up it was amazing. I liked the character arc that goldilocks had, but when it comes to puss characters his realisation about how important life was at the end was good but felt rushed due to the amount of serious moments he had to remind him of that lesson either being too short or by undercut and undermined by too jokes. The animation was really good too. I kinda wished they referenced the events of the first movie more in a way cos this movie felt pretty detached from the first one. Plus it didn't seem like puss even cared about or remembered humptys death and was completely or remembered who he was. I didn't like Jack as a villain at all, he felt too goofy and the way he sacrificed his employees didn't feel that impactful cos they were killed off in such comedic ways but I liked how he collected different mythical weapons. DreamWorks version of Jiminy cricket in this movie is hilarious. I think Jack horner could've been cut out of the story to make more room for the wolf, and just have the wolf as the main looming threat of the movie. I wonder if they'll reference the three diablos in the potential third. And since they included jiminey cricket in this movie for the first time, I wonder if they'll ever start referencing more obscure fairy tales or fairy tales we haven't seen a DreamWorks spin on before like the wizard of oz. I know they set up shrek 5 at the end of this movie but I think they should leave shrek alone, and would be fine with the franchise just be continued with puss in boots or just have shrek cameo in this one. One final thing about Jack Horner is that I think that since the whole movie kinda tackles puss' obsession with maintaining his legend, Horner's character could've worked better if they made it that Jack horners character was jealous of puss' notoriety and achievements, cos I think the reason why the wolf worked so well is cos his existence and presence challenges puss in a very personality way.
I'll never understand how the first would be more serious than this
@@darkrain1612 the movie is mostly only serious when the wolf is on screen and the wolf scenes are not that long and he has less screen time than the other villains in the movie. Even when the doctor tells puss that he's on his last life, puss is cracking jokes throughout most of that scene and even after puss runs away from the wolf the first time to live with that old lady, that scene is mostly comedic, he doesn't really act sad or worried when he's hiding in the old lady's house, just a bit moody and perrito is just cracking jokes throughout most of it and even when the bears show up it's mostly comedic.
A great breakdown for a neat movie, but I gotta disagree with the praise for the reduced frame-rate in the film. In Spider-verse this was a sacrifice they had to make, to be able to afford implementing all the other visuals which made that movie so gorgeous.
The Last Wish has amazing animation, but all of the same effects and impact in the animation can be achieved without the lowered flame-rate, which only serves to fragment the movement of the characters, undermining the otherwise dynamic animation.
Key-frames are crucial, and can look cool by themselves, but inbetweens exist for a reason too; they give the animation that fluidity, which can enhance the effect of the hand-drawn techniques mentioned on the stream.
Of course, lowered frame-rate can be used to great effect if it's justified in the narrative or artistically, like in the Lego Movie. In this case however, it was probably a decision made for budget reasons. Which is understandable, if it was to facilitate the details and quality of the animation we got, but it's still a flaw.
To clarify; I don't think this is a huge issue with the movie, but it's something people tend to reference as one of the film's merits, when it's actually one of its flaws.
