Mykal (Michael) was a member of 4 the Love with Geoff, Layne, and Earl back in their high school days when they performed as a barbershop quartet. Mykal was tenor one and Earl was tenor two if you can believe it. I always thought Earl had a really high voice but Mykal is WAY up there. He didn’t get much screen time on this one because it’s obviously a piece suited for Geoff to be featured. They are doing another one with him where he’ll be featured more in the near future. He is an accomplished Broadway artist as well as quite a bit of musical theater. His voice is gorgeous. Be sure to watch the mini they put out called shenanigans in set. It’s really cute.
Mykal killed it in this one! Only other thing I've seen him in is the "Just Sing" video. Crazy that Earl was tenor 2 😮. I'll definitely give the short a watch on my own time. Thanks for mentioning it! I think I saw it on my feed and was about to click it when I remembered that I hadn't seen this video yet lol
Layne is a baritone and covers bass while Geoff sings. Mykal was a founding member way back in high school when their name was 4 the love. When they added Scott Porter and became 4:2:Five. Changed the name again when they went on The Sing-Off to VoicePlay and became friends with Home Free.
@Broomrider1492 Yeah, I didn't mention anything about Layne being a baritone since he's usually beat boxing. Another person reminded me that Mykal is a founding member (been a while since I've seen the "Just Sing" video). I remembered them being called 4:2:5, Scott Porter being a former member, and Tim showing up in that video lol
Looks like you got what you wanted! VoicePlay had lost their baritone AND their high tenor. Cesar can really do baritone as well as tenor and that was part of what they needed if they were going to be short one person. It gives them the variety for their various videos. Mykal was a founding member before heading off to Broadway.
@bjspeck4337 Yeah, they still haven't replaced Earl yet, but Eli and Cesar both seem to fill his role at different times, as well as the different guests they have in their videos (like this one lol). Ah, that's right! Mykal is a founding member. Broadway seems right up his alley.
Yes, they are in a league of their own. I don't agree that Home Free sound the best, that's probably a matter of taste. They all do. PTX also sound good. I think VoicePlay's arrangements are incredible and they all have fantastic voices and they all cover a wide range of vocal types. Most can go bass to tenor to some degree.
@christinestromberg4057 I did mention that they all sound great and all 3 groups have people that can go from tenor to bass. I was just trying to say that they all specialize in different areas. To me, all 3 groups are right there with each other
They are absolutely wonderful!
They sure are! And they never miss! ❤❤❤🎶🎶🎶
"Just Layne doing Layne things." Always a great way to start off. 😂
Absolutely 😁

@@ilsukdyang8134 Yes i was saying that preferring the sound of Home Free may be a matter of taste.
