@T&P...Next time, try to make hot chocolate drink using the local cocoa powder for breakfast along with your local Pinoy breakfast meal of puto and mango.
I remember my grandma using Tablea (chocolate disks) when she made champorado and hot cocoa. It's similar to the Latin brand Abuela that we have here in the states except a little more richer and deeper in flavor.
If you can find "tablea" or cocoa tablets, it's the best thing to use for champorado. :) There's commercial tablea, it's crumbly and sometimes sweet and has milk added (usually found in supermarkets)... and there's "local" tablea which are hard and brittle. They're bitter but when used in champorado or even as a drink is very rich tasting since the oil from the cocoa beans is still inside the tablets. :D Oh, and aside from the Quezo Real ice cream, try the Tablea Yema by Magnolia. It's a dark chocolate ice cream with yema (caramel) fudge. *that's my favorite flavor as of the moment since I love both tablea and yema. :D
Trina and Pierre, you're both Filipino grocery pro's now. I love going to supermarkets in every country I go to, as the experience is akin to the culture of the immediate community. My favorite grocery I have been to so far is the one in Marseille close to Old Port.
Oh in Marseille?! What was so special about it? :) Yes same - it really give you a good insight into the habits of locals!! Thanks for watching! See you in the next episode ;-)
Hello! Sa Rustan's Cebu, you can sleep on the floor. It's very clean. Malinis talaga. If you want seafood, go to the public market. Fresh fish and veggies. 😄
What was special there? But Marseille is nice, I often did go down there from Germany. What I know is, they mostly have more ready-to-eat stuff in french supermarkets than in Germany. Which is quite comfortable when you are on the road. But what I know, they have awesome arabic shops there, I got great Baharat and Raz el Hanout, which I never found as good as there. (Well besides the origin countries for sure, which I couldnt visit by now..) Btw, are there some spice mixtures / curries in the philippines, people should know about? "Comment down below" Sorry for hijacking the comments ;)
It was long time ago, but I as far I remember the grocery was typical French with many Middle Eastern/North African items. And yes, the awesome Arabic shops alongside boulangerie and cafes, where I spent days people watching and appreciating Southern French culture.
For a real authentic taste of champorado, use tablea/tableya. Try to find the Malagos brand if you can. Let the water boil in the stovetop(use a cooking pot)then drop the tablea, about 3 to 4 discs or more if you want it “chocolatier”, then let it melt. Mix so it won’t stick to the pot.Afterwards, add the sticky or “malagkit” rice. Cook until the rice turns soft. Btw, The water should be more than the usual quantity than the way you cook regular rice since the consistency must be soup like. add some sugar. Others add milk(evaporated or fresh), sometimes coconut milk. Remove from heat. You can add condensed milk if the sweetness during cooking is not enough or if you did not add milk during cooking. This is best paired with tuyo or danggit(those are variety of dried fish). Anyway, if you try cooking it,there are various tutorials around.Hope you try it. Enjoy! The cocoa powder is the shortcut version but tablea still tastes the best!
nice! I admire trina's grocery shopping skills.. pretty practical and smart. oh btw, queso(cheese) ice cream is a normal thing here where you get tiny bits of cheese fillings in hehe.. even europeans were finding it strange putting cheese in ice creams
Wow! I think I'd have to go back to Camiguin again soon...the last I was there (last year), they did not even have a supermarket/grocery in a big building yet!
If cheese ice cream is weird for you, you haven't been to Japan. there are shops who sell REALLY weird ice cream flavors (some are probably good) one of a classic filipino ice cream flavor is cheese and ube (yes, two flavors (2 ice creams) in one cone or bowl) as for Champorado, if you want to be authentic, go for Cocoa tablets (tablea de cacao) made from Batangas (or other places i didnt know about). BUT a regular Cocoa powder is good enough.
Remembered the first time I stumbled upon your travel vlog, you're doing the same grocery shopping heading to ur dream island paradise and with those epic drone shots. Hope you'll have a grand time again.
7:34 in the Philippines 🇵🇭 we don’t grow Apple 🍎 so all of them are imported to the Philippines 🇵🇭 but yeah, I prefer to buy at the local market than in the supermarket coz it’s lot cheaper.
Most apples here are the Fuji variety. However, the juiciest Fuji apples come from China while some are imported from India, New Zealand and Japan. Fuji apples come in a variety of sizes and colors. Washington Red apples only appear during Christmas season but they're not as sweet as Fuji.
Pastel is way too sweet. If there's a Pinoy delicacy that would turn your blood sugar skyrocket in one serving, that is Pastel. Pastel is not a healthy snack.
Nice vlog. I love to visit local supermarket every time I am abroad. It gives you a hint of the local culture. I love lanzones. When you get the chance, try star apple, a local fruit, very delicious. Thanks.
you're right guys.. local markets are much cheaper than supermarkets... plus it contributes to the small local businesses, fresh produces like vegs and fruits are the best hauls..but also on my experience.. let's say If i want to buy some international brands like korean noodles or malaysian soymilk, then the supermarkets are definitely the best
One more FYI, the "CHAMPORADO" is eaten with fried tuyo or dilis during breakfast meal. It's consider as the "PINOY BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS." Guys try it eating sometime. By the way I'm pinay may asawa is kano tigulang. lol
We tried Champorado in Manila the last time we were in the Philippines and made a video on it. We really enjoyed it - nice to know what chocolate is used in the dish :)
we have a small lanzones plot of land and when in season we give away baskets and baskets of lanzones to friends. Cheese ice cream by the way pretty good.
@T&P...Yes, fruits sold in the supermarket are expensive due to ambiance.:-) It's always wise to buy in the local market or f;;ea market where fruits are cheaper. Due to the large supply of apples in the market coming from different countries, apples tend to be much cheaper than mangoes and bananas which are widely available here. But you cant compare mangoes and bananas to apples in terms of taste. I always go for either mangoes and bananas.
hey guys ;-) nice vid, you won't be having any problem in finding a mall in any city here in the phils and if you're in the small town or barangay you can always find what you need in any sari sari stores ;-) by d way, already watch the vid of mike(makingithappen) and I hope trina is already feeling well, Trina get-well soon ;-) till the next vlog, stay safe and enjoy ;-)
I prefer buying food at a local market. It's cheaper there. Looks like you're enjoying the place and great travel tips since I have plans of going there for Thanksgiving holiday. 😊
been watching your vlogs for a couple of weeks now. . .the background of banana ketchup was that when Filipino companies began making & selling tomato ketchup after world war 2, the big american companies producing tomato ketchup filed a case against them for copyright infringement. So a Filipino company looked for an alternative and thus the banana ketchup came into being.

That cheese ice cream is my favorite!
You guys must try it.
I used to love this flavor called "strawberry cheesecake" in the USA so I can imagine it being good!
You should try the cheese ice cream from Magnolia. It is so good.
Noted! thanks for watching :)
Traditional Champorado uses "Tablea" (pure cacao tablet) and glutinous rice. It's really good with brown sugar and coconut milk. Yum!
Oh wow I wanna try the real one!!
the gears in my head already churning as to what's the nxt. big trip gonna be.....#thumbsup great vid.
Trina was so cute and friendly
Thanks for the sweet message and watching :D

Abuela - the Mexican chocolate. Of course!! I know this very well. Thanks so much for this example - it helps a lot :))))

Wow! I think I'd have to go back to Camiguin again soon...the last I was there (last year), they did not even have a supermarket/grocery in a big building yet!
That's probably why it looked so modern. Get the lemonade. SO GOOD and refreshing :)
wait...what? camiguin got now a mall? I was there when I was little and it was all trees...and beaches. of course!
Apparently that's what many viewers said. It must be younger than 3 years old!
In my household, we use Chocolate Tablea for champorado. It’s a local dark chocolate bar. But many people use cocoa powder too.
Thanks for letting us know :)
Watched all 5 commercials on this video, didn't 'skip' a single one. That's the least I could do to support your channel. Greetings from 🇩🇪! 👍

Waterfalls Yes! and Hibok Hibok Volcano. We didn't get to do the underwater cemetery of calm sanctuary. I was we had 😕
Trina & Pierre 🙀🤦🏻♂️
Nice vlog again!
Love from Cebu
Hello Joey! Thanks for watching :D
And banana ketchup is the bomb!
Who would have guessed there are no tomatoes haha! Very good indeed :)
We use Tsokolate Tablea (tablea cocoa ) or just melt any premium chocolate for our champorado ...
By the way, we have a new food video out! Here's the link ua-cam.com/video/-J13j8oyfmY/v-deo.html 😁

Camiguin's delicacy is pastel. Camiguin has 7 volcanoes. 😁 try have a tour. Try our banana ketchup too...
Pastel? We didn't try this one :(
It's a kind of pastry....really good.
Pastel is way too sweet. If there's a Pinoy delicacy that would turn your blood sugar skyrocket in one serving, that is Pastel. Pastel is not a healthy snack.
Not healthy if you're sedentary and middle-aged.
Besides the tomato ketchup, you also need to buy "Mang Tomas", if you are eating some meat, especially Lechon :)
Del Monte is Filipino owned now. HQ is still North America but a Filipino company (Del Monte Pacific Limited) acquired the rest of Del Monte.
Oh wow! Good to know.
Love your videos ! ❤️️
Thank you Joanna!!! :)
You shouls try Pastel buns with filling! Yumm!
Next time!
Nice vlog. I love to visit local supermarket every time I am abroad. It gives you a hint of the local culture. I love lanzones. When you get the chance, try star apple, a local fruit, very delicious. Thanks.
I agree. It one of the best ways to get to know a country :D

That makes total sense. Packaged goods from supermarket. Fresh & local from market. We think that's the best way to go :D
Ricoa cocoa or Milo is what we usually used for our champorado in the Philippines. It's pretty hard to find tablea here.
Thank you 🙏
Wow just wow. Camiguin is the home province of my father. Thumbs up
So nice! We loved the island and would be happy to go back any day :)
I just gave a thumbs up👍👍👍. You guys are fun to watch. It's like I'm also travelling with you guys...keep it up. 👆👆👆

I hear the Champorado again. I really love her accent when she's saying it. Once was the other video that you were trying Pinoy breakfast foods.
haha you remember. indeed in manila. we're back!
OMG my IDOL... MORI is playing in the background!
That's awesome! Yes, we forgot to mention that to our audience. There is always MUSIC in the background :)
Both the banana ketchup and the del monte tomato ketchup are locally produce,,
We use cacoa powder a d moscovado sugar, gluitunous rice for siamporado,
Thanks for this!
..and also get some "Mang Tomas" if you eat some meat, especially pork meat, lechon.. its the perfect sauce for it and very popular.
One more FYI, the "CHAMPORADO" is eaten with fried tuyo or dilis during breakfast meal. It's consider as the "PINOY BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS." Guys try it eating sometime. By the way I'm pinay may asawa is kano tigulang. lol

Lanzones to friends ... we want to be friends!! :D
Scuba diving is a must when in Camiguin.....You'll see the infamous giant clams.
GIANT CLAMS - Pierre is so sad to have missed this 😥
It is a little bit expensive in supermarket than in wet market but more clean and safe compare to the wet market.
Banana ketchuppppp!!! Perfect for fried chicken!
@T&P...Yes, fruits sold in the supermarket are expensive due to ambiance.:-) It's always wise to buy in the local market or f;;ea market where fruits are cheaper. Quezo Real falvored iced cream is my favorite flavor
been watching your vlogs for a couple of weeks now. . .the background of banana ketchup was that when Filipino companies began making & selling tomato ketchup after world war 2, the big american companies producing tomato ketchup filed a case against them for copyright infringement. So a Filipino company looked for an alternative and thus the banana ketchup came into being.
A very smart solution that still works until this date apparently. Thanks for the background on this!
My preferred banana ketchup brand is del monte, less extender and food coloring.
Nice - good thing to notice those ingredients! Not many people pay attention.
Don't they use achuete seeds anymore as red coloring? It's completely natural.
One of my main criteria for going back to the Philippines is if it's lansones season.
I completely understand! I haven't seen them in any other country. so so good!
Lens cleaning lol
The worst problem with Sony cameras (Always happens to me...)!
Right!
For drinking water, it's cheaper to get a gallon from a water station than a bottle in the supermarket :)
Ah! That is super useful information!!!
Thanks!
dont forget to try lanzones in camiguin
Lanzones is now Trina's favorite fruit in the Philippines. She never tasted this anywhere else in the world.
hi. take good care. God bless.
Thank you for the kind message and support :)
If u eat cheese cake...its same taste with the cheese icecream...
I thought so! I the US, we have something called strawberry cheesecake ice cream which is delicious. Maybe it is similar :)
Please collab with Travel Beans! They are in Manila at the moment ☺
Oh yeah we heard of them! Never met yet! :)

Yes, even in my hair I used it.

Banana ketchup. That is wicked.
Does it taste like real ketchup?
Yes it kind of does. I didn't know it doesn't have tomatoes until I read the ingredients!
i prefer cacao grind and shape like in coin size thats the purest.
Hi Nick! Thanks for watching. We're currently in India - if you ever thought of visiting feel free to check out the videos here 😊ua-cam.com/video/7pvyjyDR-Xo/v-deo.html Have a great day!
6:12 i always buy golden oats for my breakfast
They were very good! Nelly made overnight oats with banana and coconut for us :D
I just realized Trina looked like Tado a male artist. That is why locals would think she is a Filipina
🤣
