    Really like listening to coach Chad. He has a very good way of explaining these things without dogma. Love the way he weathers the interrupts - not that I'm criticising. This is my favourite podcast as much for the chemistry of the members as it is the content. Brilliant. Can't wait for the next episode.

      Don't forget how many grueling rides Chad has had the consitent discipline to tolerate - tolerating getting cut off is light work for him! 😂

    I listen to the podcasts religiously and I love it. These short videos are so good to refer back to certain aspects you want to remember and dont have the time to search through the podcasts.

    As a recreational rider this is excellent information, now I need to add intensity to my group rides.

    I don't normally use the closed captioning, but used it today, to keep from distracting the non-cyclists in the room. At about the 1:05 mark, the text reads, "...oh okay our fried whopper Kela rider here..."
    Obviously, was supposed to be, "five watts per kilo rider". I had to go back and listen to the audio, to make sure I wasn't missing out on nutritional advice.

    Competitive triathlete here, interesting tip 20:18' ... I'll try cutting back on the fasted ride prior to my FTP 100's%+ hard intervals days. Neat stuff!

      @@TrainerRoad Sounds like there's also something weird happening with the ambience, it's audible even before the actual voice. If you listen carefully you can hear some reverberation of a word right before it's being said. Scary stuff :)

      Hey Jakub!
      Thanks for the feedback! We are making an effort to improve our documentation and increasing the links to studies and outside information. On the newer podcasts we have started recording the links to studies within a Forum Post linked to the full-length podcast, but I agree that it would be good to have the links in the description itself. I'll discuss this with the team :)

    What part if any does age play in the various w/o's both HIIT and 65% w/o's. Is it a crutch to merely bring age into the equation?

  • @CycoWarriorx

    I’m still grasping this information, but here’s my question - was the suggestion given that fasted rides are beneficial at 65%? Is that maintaining 65% or not exceeding (or dipping beneath) it? And should a fasted ride not exceed 45 minutes??

    • @tmmyeatsqrrl
      @tmmyeatsqrrl 5 років тому +1

      It's not that specific. They are just generally referring to Zone 2 rides of 45-60min in duration. So in and around 65%. This section of the podcast was in response to someone on the TR forums asking: "what benefit is a short Zone 2 ride?". Meaning, they know longer Zone 2 rides elicit adaptations, but do the shorter ones.
      In TR training plans, almost every Wed is a ride called Pettit (or similar). It's a Zone 2 effort for an hour. The guy on the forum was asking about skipping it. Coach Chad (guy on the left) is mainly a response to that question, as well as the thread that followed.

  • @sDraggo
    @sDraggo 5 років тому

    I have a question.
    You talk about easy rides on Wed/Fri FTP 60-65% and yet the plans are 60-75% on "Training plans" (ex General High volume or Half ironman mid volume/high volume). Why the 70-75% ex. "petit, andews and beech"?

    So, what should you when you get sick? Say shingles after a long and brutal base phase (asking for a friend haha).

    • @TrainerRoad
      @TrainerRoad  5 років тому

      If you have shingles, you will certainly want to stay off of the bike until you are feeling better again. As for how to adjust your plan for the missed weeks, check out this article from our Help Center:

    Thank you the great info and platform it is greatly appreciated. I have to ask, I have gotten to a point where making any gains is becoming very difficult, my tss over the course of the last 3-4 weeks has gone up to about 600. I increased week to week and I usually do 3-4 weeks followed by a recovery week and I am coming out of my base phase and I am at 4.73w/kg and I want to get to 5. My goal even is mt. washington in august but I want to race a bit this year but not a ton, I'm a cat 5 and 45 years old. I want to go into a build phase and I guess I would like so suggestions. Thanks

    How do you determine working at 65% effort or power?

    • @TrainerRoad
      @TrainerRoad  5 років тому +2

      All of our workouts are based on percantage of FTP :) Your FTP is your functional threshold power, which is determined by the Ramp test within our training software. It becomes the basis for all of your workouts moving forward.
