Khárn and Erebus’ duel was so fucking good. Especially how even the other World Eaters were shocked at how much he changed after Argel Tal’s death. It’s genuinely sad because it was Argel Tal who would keep Khárn as focused as possible and as human as a traitor World Eater can be. Erebus genuinely ruins everything.
Argel Tal also knew Sevatar and they mutually respected each other.
Before the Dropsite Massacre Argel's speech inspired Sevatar to shout "Death to the False Emperor" which became the traitor's motto.
However during the Dropsite Massacre, Sevatar saw Argel Tal's demon form and was disgusted.
When the battle ended Argel wanted to pay respect to Sevatar by shaking hands and Sevatar spat at him.
Base Sevatar, the true son of Curze, the embody of Justice, Judgement and Punishment

Best boy out of Word Bearers. There is something special about that he knows and realises how f*cked up this galaxy and the gods, but still serving in the name of his primarch.
And the fact that he felt regret after he killed the loyalists and Custodes makes him even more badass.

Somehow, adding a daemon to a genetic-altered bioweapon IMPROVED empathy. Go figure.
I find it interesting that Erebus and Kor both note that they had to keep Lorgar away from Argel Tal because Lorgar already had doubts about spreading the truth about chaos and with Argel by his side he almost certainly wouldn't have done it.
It's also funny that of the three Argel was the only one Lorgar actually liked and Lorgar had sent Erebus and Kor to Calth to die.
Hell even in 40k some word bearers hate Erebus for striking "down the legion's brightest star"

(Excerpt: The First Heretic) Vendatha the awesome Custodian!
Lorgar was at ease, his muscles loose. He actually expected his offer of truce to hold some weight, and that lapse in judgement was enough for Vendatha to take the chance. He pulled the haft-trigger, and his spear’s underslung bolter cracked off a stream of rounds on full-auto.
Argel Tal saw it coming. The swords of red iron smashed the first three bolts aside, their power fields strong enough to detonate the shells as they streaked towards the primarch’s heart. The explosions threw the captain to the ground, his grey armour scraping along the stone with the shriek of offended ceramite.
Vendatha was already in motion. The golden warrior leapt at the primarch, guardian spear spinning in his fists, an oath to the Emperor on his lips. Four Word Bearers blocked his path, and those four Word Bearers had to die.
Rikus was the first to fall. The Custodian’s blade crunched into the soft, jointed armour at the Chaplain’s throat, punching from the back of his neck. Tsar Quorel died next, decapitated with a buzzing sweep of the energised blade, dead before he’d pulled his trigger.
Deumos managed to fire a stream of bolt shells, none of which connected. Vendatha weaved left, thudded the base of his spear into the Chapter Master’s bolter, knocking it aside, and followed with a cutting swing that sheared both the Word Bearer’s hands from his body, severing them at the forearms. Deumos had a scarce moment to draw in a stunned gasp before the spear sliced again, this time cleaving through his collarbone and spine, ripping his head free. Vendatha span the blade in his hands, letting it come to rest with the tip and gun barrel aimed at Lorgar’s heart again. Behind the Custodian, the bodies crashed to the ground in slow succession.
Three seconds had passed.
"We'll avoid these guys if we become demons" -Lorgar
Such power. To humans, Chaos and Imperial alike, transhumans such as space marines, custodes, and even mechanicum adepts are viewed with awe, adoration and respect. But the Eldar see them as absolute abominations. Who would transform himself into a monster? Interesting perspective.
The Emperor made weapons of mass destruction in the shape of men, and with their hands they wrought mankind's doom.

I actually thought Argel Tal was going to betray the Word Bearers in the end. It is very obvious that he questioned almost everything about the Heresy and that he only ended up serving because of Lorgar, all the time questioning his loyalty to him, as he saw Lorgar descend deeper and deeper into madness.
And now I see why Malcador chose loyalist astartes from traitor legions for his knights errants. Their loyalty to the emperor was THAT strong even if they're wired to be loyal to their primarchs .
Imagine Argel Tal becoming one of the Knight Errants and eventually one of founders of Grey Knights.

When Lorgar asked Kharn if he wanted to know who killed Argel Tal and Kharn going beast mode is one of the best scenes ever in a HH book.

Possessed Argel was bigger than a Primarch and dual wielded Custodes weapons. Now imagine that guy with the blessing of the 4 chaos gods and a Primarch weapon as the chad version of the warmaster of chaos, probaby actual Primarch-tier.

Lorgar charging in to save his sons when he knew for a fact he would not win against Corax is one of the reasons he is my favorite Primarch.
Perturabo is my favorite traitor primarch because of his competence.

In a way, it's fitting that a man who was half daemon was one of the most human Space Marines; after all, daemons are tiny fragments of the Chaos Gods, and Chaos Gods are, at this point, mostly fueled by humanity's psychic gestalt. In the end, a daemon is a little fragment of exactly the thinga that make us human.

Tal, Torgaddon, Aximand, Tarvitz, Loken, all of those early Heresy characters are spot on.
The most interesting revelation from Argel’s story is that the reason it is called The Imperial Truth is that it is not reality, it is the reality The Emperor seeks to create, although he claims it is reality.
The Wordbearers, per their name, see themselves as bearing the weight of the Actual reality of the cosmos for better or worse, and therefore see the emperor, not as a visionary, but as a liar, ignoring the fact that this reality can be changed.
If you ever read a chaos character refer to the emperor as a liar, this is the lie they are referring to, and the unspoken debate that is occurring: should the nature of the universe be accepted, or should we seek to change the entire universe to align with our beliefs?
As a result of this debate Lorgar is both the most and least logical character is 40k, acting in accordance to the facts, but ignoring their context.
Imagine if every Chaos Space Marine was written as well as Argel Tal or Talos. Chaos would be a lot more interesting if that were the case.

I think the chaos marines are more human than loyalists, and not from an edgy teen standpoint. They really see the truth, the loyalists for the most part are still completely blind. Think about 50% of traitor legion having to be purged and the perspective they would have, but knowing loyalists would just mow them down...
Talos and Argel Tal are two great written Chaos Characters.

Khayon is also great. In the end I never would have thought I'd feel sorry for Uzas. Quite honestly all of first claw are written great.
While not technically chaos per se, Fabius Bile is amazing in his trilogy. Josh Reynolds does a lot to humanize him without taking away from the monster that he is.
Huh. Never expected to find this point in 40k, but;
Argel's life is one of the best possible *counters* to the phrase "If it can be destroyed by the truth, it deserves to be."
One of my favourite sad, relatable moments in the entire lore was when Argel spoke with Sevatar and how Sevatar responded.

I swear, his self analysis about not knowing if his loyalty to Lorgar was genetic or genuine was so spot on. Based on his personality Argal was betrayed by himself, he wasn’t a bootlicker, that’s why he betrayed his friends (the custodians) for his father even though he didn’t like what his father was doing.

I feel they killed Argyl off cuz he has a lot of parallels with the White Scar's Khan. Such as dual wielding, Resistance mentally to manipulation, wisdom, pragmatic. They are extremely similar in different settings

As much as I'd love to see Argal come back, I think a really good character arc for Kharn right now would be him deciding to take revenge on Erebus after all this time, gathering allies that also despise Erebus to kill the Word Bearer.
Hell make it a massive plot twist as Kharn slowly regains more and more of his sanity until the climatic fight where upon killing Erebus, he becomes something like a mix of his old and khornite personalities, seeking to fight the best out there but doing so in a more honourable and strategic way then just kill main burn. Be pretty interesting and make Kharn a much more compelling character again. Hell it's not even that much of a stretch to think Khorne may put his avatar on this path, perhaps sick of Erebus shit and lack of honour as well as seeing it as a step towards making Kharn the ultimate warrior.
Erebus dying would make so many lore fans cheer, and the only people who wouldn't enjoy it have opinions that are wrong.
This would be amazing and make another Chaos Astartes amazing.

@@adrienwatson2179 Kharn is one of those Chaos Aligned characters that still has a lot of potential for the story and universe but is being shafted to suit a niche. Say Lucius, dude doesn't much room to grow or change as he was always an arrogant man that believed no one could best him, or Erebus who has had his heyday as the one responsible for the Horus Heresy and many parts within it, but since then has been more or less relegated to background character since he simply can't do what he used to with the same effect.
Kharn is unique since he had a very distinct personality for a World Eater, and what with how his personal damnation happened, while his fighting prowess has certainly heightened, he is far from what you could consider the perfect warrior, which is the exact kind of thing Khorne would love to see. After all, sure, he was an amazing fighter, but there is bunch of other pre-heresy aspects to him that really set him apart from the regular World Eater that, in my mind, is why Khorne decided to choose him of all astartes. And what better way to improve his champion's capabilities now his devotion is assured then to have him claim his vengeance for the murder of his best friend which inevitably would require Kharn to make use of his more intrinsic personality traits?

@@adrienwatson2179 Personally, I don't entirely mind the direction they took with Kharn, but rather the fact they have done nothing with it. Sure, being a mindless berserker is interesting for a little, but it's more the fact he has gone no where with it other than to be one of the best killers in 40K. In my eyes however, it does paint an excellent landscape for his later potential for thousands of years of killing all being to ensure his otherworldly skills in combat as well as his devotion to Khorne.
That's why I hope something along these lines happens to make Kharn a player in 40k again. Between Magnus and the Thousand Sons getting up to shit again, the Plague Wars with the Death Guard and Fabius Bile continuing to do his thing, I feel like Khorne and the forces of Undivided (*cough cough* Alpha Legion and Iron Warriors *cough cough*) need a real spot light, and for Khorne? What better way then the Betrayer getting his vengeance for the betrayal of Argal and becoming a leading Khornite leader like he should be?
Erabus is my favorite Chaos Astartes, he is the only one who isn’t a traitor but always worked for Chaos, and I admire that he went through all that training just to fuck with the Empire, he doesn’t care about army shit. And when he saw emps he thought “I want to dismember you like a bug” while everyone else pooped their pants

@@paimonisfood4986 Erebus succeeded though what with the emperor being a Halloween decoration in the 41st millennium. A flaming sword isn't the only way to win a fight and the emperor would know that better than anybody since he schemes and lies about as much as tzeentch.

@@kellerblair2952 literally the imperial truth was a lie and it was practically the catalyst for all events during the horus heresy. If the emperor would have told the primarchs about chaos, they may have been able to combat it
@@FeatherResonance With faith in the emperor slowly becoming an actual special ability for the Imperium I think it would not just his sword that wins battles. Also a lot of the lies and schemes made by the Emperor were in the end intended to work for humanity's favor unlike Tzeentch who just do it to further chaos's goals which is definitely not ideal for any human.

As for the transformation and possession the 7 months in the Warp was actually 7 seconds which Lorgar told Argel tal in a confused look as he was listening to the confessions of what they had to do to survive

I hope they make a new book series where, maybe if Ghazghkull defeats Angron and a large amount of Khorne’s real space influence, Khârn can shake off some of his lucidity and go find Rum if he’s still around to try and get Argel back, and help him become the badass character he was before

Raum and argel tal was I believed completely fused with his daemon Raum so if he is still around so would argel it would be a cathartic experience seeing kharn Champion of khorne and argel more daemon then man at this point

I remember the Kharn and Argel bromance, it was a great read
There's a short story in the Mark of Calth book that follows another member of the Gal Vorbak who goes rogue after 7 years of fighting underground. It's really interesting and worth checking out if you like Argel Tal. The First Heretic and that story convinced me that a spinoff game of Warhammer 40k: Space Marine where you play as a rogue Gal Vorbak who can temporarily go demon mode in combat and travel around through the warp trying to unravel its mysteries while occasionally dropping onto random planets in real space and slaughtering loyalists would be sick as fuck
Argel Tal is the reason I somehow like the word bearers. Thanks to him, I understand how the WB think and why they turned traitor. Sadly the other main characters of them are just boring villains. But argel Tal is so dope, he carry the whole legion
Best scene in Warhammer lore, at least top 10: Angron making fun of Argel-Tal and the word Bearers, then slapping Argel-Tal down when he got all butthurt about it. Telling ya, I was crying for days, especially cuz the audio book was so damn perfectly voiced acted.
First Heretic, Know no Fear and Betrayer are some of my favorite books in the Horus Heresy series. Also, Argel threw his chainsword at the Custodes.

In 40k, he might have to work for the Radical Inquisitor who would be pragmatic to work with him and impress him enough that they retain their humanity when fighting monsters.

The first part of this story was an AMAZING book called The First Heretic. Everyone should read that novel it's so much fun.

The lore is amazing... and ironic. Word Bearers turned traitor, for worshipping the Emperor, yes. But they also foiled themselves in the attempt. Cyrene was Argel Tal's "confessor." But after Cyrene Valantion died and was resurrected by Argel Tal, she became a perpetual and a loyalist.
If you read the book where Lorgar tries to kill Horus, Lorgar is led by a blind, masked woman. It's pretty clear this is none other than Cyrene, luring Lorgar into a fight he can't win, and taking the Word Bearers out of the very rebellion they started. Brilliant!

The more I learn about the Horus Heresy, the more I learn that the Emperor and the Custodes were actually really bad at running a crusade and an empire.

A always found it amusing that you seem to hate chaos, and aren't what most people would find wholesome, and Weshammer is a teddy bear that seems to love them.
To me it felt like argel was able to sway the demon to his side.

The scene with the custodien being sacrificed was fucking brutal. His face was a mess with one eye kinda working and looking around as he got impaled.
